Man, I did not see myself not uploading anything for almost 2 months.... Oh well, I'm back now and hopefully back to something that can be called a schedule. Today we're talking about the 1983 anime Cat's Eye. I hope you enjoy this video. If you do, don't forget to leave a LIKE, COMMENT and SUBSCRIBE!
Well, Cats Eye is a light series of adventure and humor, with a touch of fanservice and romance between the thief and the police officer. Recovering Heinz's works of art are the "leitmotiv" of the series but we should not take it so seriously, as you have said, the game of cat and mouse is the main thing. I discovered this series in 2024, an official dubbing for Spain was produced in the city of Los Angeles, California. Later, and without adapting the language, it was broadcast in Chile but never on the big Latam TV from Mexico to Argentina. Cats Eye is a series with interesting characters with proportionate figures that are not infantilized as in current anime, which has the artistic charm of hand-drawn series on celluloid and a good soundtrack! It's an 8 out of 10. A very good video, Top Scholar. Greetings from Argentina!
As a big fan of Tsukasa Hojo, I'm glad that someone made a video on Cat's Eye. It was my introduction to Hojo. Too bad they never adapted the final chapters of the manga. Unlike the anime the manga became a slice of life during the 2nd half.
Fun fact! Italian broadcasters would shove this, rose of Versailles, Heidi and Georgie in kids channels when they had nothing else to air. This video definitely made me super nostalgic, but I don’t think I’ll ever re watch the series
It's true, Italians have been big consumers of anime since long before the USA and Latam, I have even bought official figures from Kurumada's "Bt X" series and their boxes were in that language
Found ya! ;) I mean there are so few youtubers in retro anime, given how popular anime is today and how flat the industry has become it only makes sense to me that people would turn to the classics, alas that happens relatively infrequently. All the more reason I'm glad to have seen this video of yours, Cat's Eye seems like my kind of lazy show when I don't wanna overthink it just sit down and relax. I see you have been active with retro anime, will be looking into your work.
Thank you. Yeah it's a shame that there aren't more people covering retro anime. Especially since there are so many good shows that no one has ever really talked about.
Oh yeah, now i realize what the cafe antique from Toyko Ghoul made me secretly think of - of course, Cats Eye! Think about it. At day it services as a cover for special individuals, who are having some business at night.
Thank you :D I am planning on covering a lot of different shows from between 1970 - 2000s ish, and listing them all here would be way too long. I tend to prefer covering lesser known shows, but as long as I feel like I have something to say about a certain show it might end up as a video at some point. I'm also planning on doing some more topics based videos that doesn't always just focus on one singular anime.
I actually do think that Cat’s Eye serves as an influence to the Dead or Alive fighting games. Especially with one of it’s iconic females, Kasumi who happens to remind me of Hitomi Kisugi.
I finished Cats Eye a few weeks ago and quite enjoyed it, not as good as City Hunter or Dirty Pair, but still a good 80's show. I liked the first season (up to ep 36) where it seemed to be more serious and Toshio got closer and closer to uncovering Cat's Eye's identity. Then we had Cats Eye leave for France (after Hitomi finally kisses Toshio because he chickened out) and I thought wow where is this show going, but no, by next episode they were back in Japan and the second half (eps 36-73) never got as serious. Also thought Toshio, despite being a fun character, was a bit of a wet blanket when it came to Hitomi. Toshio and Hitomi are both in their mid 20's and have been dating since highschool, yet we're told they have never kissed at the beginning of the series, that's nearly 10 years. No wonder Hitomi got annoyed at his lack of courage.
I definitely prefer City Hunter to Cat's Eye, but Cat's Eye has a unique charm to it in my opinion. It could have been better (and actually ended), but I'm satisfied with what's there
@@AnimeTopScholar I agree with you there. Cats Eye definitely has charm and I was sad to say goodbye to the chars when it ended. You could tell the author was finding his feet and learned from Cats Eye helping to make City Hunter the classic it became. The 2nd OP with Hitomi and the provocative poses in the bikini is genuinely erotic, something most anime don't manage, either being softcover hentai or plain ecchi fan service. Also loved the still cards of the 3 sisters used for commercial break in between shots. Some of them were truly stunning.
Miyuki Kobayakawa and Natsumi Tsujimoto of You're Under Arrest Anime need a better class of criminals.Hitomi,Rui and Ai, the Kisugi sisters of Cat's Eye? Hmmm......why not!?
It's a bit tricky to verify exactly since the track is only listed with the title M-4. It seems to be an instrumental version for the song Dancing With The Sunshine from the Anime Music Capsule "Cat's Eye" soundtrack

I really saw Cat's Eye on Tubi, and it's better than Akame Ga Kill!
It sucks how some channels go underrated like yours
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying what I put out. I still have a lot to improve on, but I'll keep working!

I'm glad they didn't do that. The manga second half sounds lame. I'll happily stick with the anime.
This is an iconic and underrated anime thanks for making a video about this :v
you’re right. i’m italian and here is so famous but in the other parts of the world none knows it “a lot” unfortunately ;(((
Agreed. Cat's Eye is one of my favourite anime.
Fun fact! Italian broadcasters would shove this, rose of Versailles, Heidi and Georgie in kids channels when they had nothing else to air. This video definitely made me super nostalgic, but I don’t think I’ll ever re watch the series
That's interesting

welcome back man good to have you releasing vids again.
Thank you. It felt good getting this one done. It took a lot longer than I thought it would. Guess the 2 months made me rusty
Great work on another video again.
Thank you

Somehow this Cat’s Eye Anime made me think of Dead or Alive getting it’s influence.
What anime are you planning to cover in the future? Btw love your videos :)

City hunter cat's eye what a wonderful collaboration I saw

Great video budddddddy
Thanks
Cat's Eye is the best anime of 1983 like Fist of the North ⬆️ Star ⭐✨.

@@AnimeTopScholar Ok thank you very much 😊
This anime similar to lopin the 3rd
Yeah they are somewhat similar. The overall goals and character dynamics are quite different though
I dropped it after episode 39 it was just to long for me.
Yeah I can see that. It is fairly repetitive
How could anyone possibly drop this awesome series? I watched every episode and besides a few exceptions I loved all of them.
