This is perfectly shown with the ready player one and two books. The first is an excellent adventure book with a great cast of characters with a protagonist that learns and grows wonderfully by the end of the book. The second book by the same author of course is a complete reset of the protagonists progress with some bizarre changes to existing characters, some truly misguided attempts at preachy messaging all wrapped up in a book that reads more like a screenplay showing the author's desperation for another slice of hollywood clout featuring only the "correct" political opinions.
Actually the graphics are ok if you can forget the previous DA games and just accept the new art style as it is: Disneyish. That's not a problem in itself.
@@RealityCheck6969Thats literally one of the biggest problems lmao. Have you even played the previous three games. It’s extremely jarring. All you need to do is have DA:O, DA2, and DA:I side by side with this garbage. I’m not even mad about this game, I’m just sad and disapppointed this franchise got its andromeda/Saints Row Reboot moment
If you're going to write "trans", "gender-fluid" or "non-binary" in your fantasy game at least try to make sure it sounds like it BELONGS to the world of your established fantasy game. Use flowery words or some sort of metaphor as a description as to not break immersion.. not directly reference real world 2024 lingo like it came straight out of a Starbucks employees mouth from LA
I believe they did exactly that for DA:I I'm pretty sure that game had a gay char and even a trans char. But instead of just shoving in modern terms like "non binary" etc. They came up with a unique word from the trans char's culture to describe being trans. For exactly the reasons you said, so it sounds like it belongs. Just making a char trans or non binary or whatever (like Trash or whatever the f the chars name is) and have them just throwing around modern terms.
@@jimherold7827because the term internet doesn’t belong in a world with dragons and demons it’s just stupid. Lowers the immersion it’s really simple 😂
Same with the word “trans”. Even though Inquisition had a minor trans character in Krem I don’t think the word itself was ever used. Probably because they knew how out of place it would have sounded.
Hearing the term "non-binary" in any human interaction is jarring. When I first heard it, I thought it was some alternate programming language.... I guess in a way it is. But I didn't think they ment people!
It's sad because I loved the DA series, basically grew up playing it, I have every single Dragon Age game in my collection along with the Dawn Seeker movie...... But I'll not be getting this filth
I have absolutely no issues with a non-binary character in a fantasy game. I have issues with them "educating" me through video-game cutscenes. There's a difference between a character simply *being* something and a character forcing everything and everyone to revolve around them being that something.
@@DrMcFly28 I'm more disturbed by a black elf... Since when did Africa have elves? Oh yeah THAT mythology about an elf being stomped to death by a rhino... totally remember this happening. Do people still believe bioware was same people who make a dragon age 1, masseffect 2 etc? Now its just a worthless name. And names doesnt matter nothing without people who know what they doing.

Back when you actually had to have good writers for people to want to buy your game. I often skip through dialogue in a lot of RPGs lately because I can't be bothered to try to immerse myself in this hot garbage.
Except you are all just plain dumb. Have put 20 hours into the game and it is straight up god of war meets dragon age. its combat is hella fun. ALSO since you guys are talking about cherry picked scenes and DEI and you all have clearly not played... the trans options are OPTIONAL and unlocked through a mirror in the room. you will see ZERO of it in your game unless you actually CHOOSE to see it! lmao. you people are so mad at nothing. drinker has always been racist and sexist so it does not suprise me to see this video. He panders to the most angry, toxic, and insecure people in existence. anyway... thats all I have for now.. back to enjoying the game cuz its actually fun.
I believe BG3 showed everyone that most people really don’t give a fuck if you’re gay or not or somewhere in between. Just make a good fucking game with good characters and good combat and literally everything else falls into place.
Themooman29 lol. BG3 is not an example of a great RPG. Not even close. Not even a great game with all the problems and pathetic writing. Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 was great though
No, it didn't show anything. It's just that there's literally only one notable gay couple in the game, and there's a mod that reworks even that garbage. It's not comparable.
BG3 is not a bad game but it does have many issues. Especially with writting. I played it and I can definetely say that many of our companions are plain as hell. They lack depth. And I will never forgive what they did to Ketheric Thorm. My dude had such an interesting story only for a girlboss lesbian to crack his dead body's skull like an animal (let's not forget that she is a daughter of a literal Goddess and for someone so holy she should not act like an angry freaking ogre). And then instead of talking with Shadowheart about her true background she literally says "Im going to have sex with my gf don't bother me" I had fun playing BG3 but it has so many issues that ruin immersion...I don't care about gay stuff if it looks great. But most of the time it's on screen it seems like a caricature of what real gay people look like DA:O did it the best. I loved it. It's real. It's so freaking good.

Or even in this series alone, you could side with werewolves, create golems from people, wipe out the Circle, or desecrate the ashes of Andraste. Remember when in DA: Origins you could: - kill Mabari dog straight away instead of saving him, - kill a child possessed by demon while knocking his mother unconscious so she wouldn't interfere, - kill a knight by giving her a poison for her coughing, - kill bunch of mage children and their elder guardian in the Circle's tower, - kill bunch of elves while siding with the werewolves, - let a demon take over little girl's body and take her place, - ally with the man that almost doomed the nation to fall and betrayed his king, - be as evil and obnoxious as possible. Good times.
Turning Loghain into a Warden isn't "ally" so much as "lifelong servitude and certain death defending against the threat you are responsible for allowing" becomes the punishment for his crime instead of just being beheaded. Hot take, but Alistair is better as a hardened king, and Loghain's sentence as a warden makes the world a better place.
@Null_Experis Honestly that was probably my favorite ending choice of the bunch. Loghain being forced to have to take the test to be a Warden then having him take the killing blow to sacrifice himself as a way of punishment but also giving him the 'redemption' for his murder of the king. Alistar as king was always my choice aswell
I never did a particularly evil run of DA:O (my first was definitely of a ruthless "defeat the Blight at ALL costs" nature, though), but an overtly evil playthrough of ES4:Oblivion was one of my most memorable. I started describing my character as "extra special evil" for finding new and inventive ways of being a monster. It was tremendous fun pretending to be something I'm not. Fast-forward a couple decades, and devs like this now are hyper-focused on only letting you be things _they_ approve of.
And *that* is how you breed extremism. Because people bite the hand that feeds them. They take advantage of kindness and abuse it, strain it to the point of breaking it.

Apparently Veilguard beat Jedi Survivor as the biggest opening EA single player game on Steam according to a Forbes article. Steam reviews seem to be generally positive as well. Don’t get me wrong tho, my heart sinks a little bit every time I see someone such as Corinne Busche as the game director but it is what it is. This game won’t be a failure it seems. What saddens me most though is there are glimpses of a good game hidden inside this parody unfortunately. I hate that this wokeness plague corrupting everything it touches.
A friend of I have who is female said and I am quoting her. "I was looking forward to make a character like I did in the last Dragon Age a female mage that hated the world but is very hot will big pillows the person I am romancing can rest their head on, and a tight bun. This thing will not let me make a female with pillows that are smaller than I was at 12." She also did not like the combat or story.
You can also think about it in a different way instead of risking your hard earn money on one new release 60/70$, you can instead take this amount of money and spent it on older, smaller games and get from 3 to 5 of them. Same money spent more fun. Whatever suits you. In my case I look more at my backlog pick the game I want to play, it does not to be great a good one I will enjoy is enough. Which means I reduced my spending on gaming, but at the same time by backlog is still growing (as from time to time I cannot skip a good deal on a game when it is being sold for bargain bin price).
As long as a game doesn't have an over the top accept-everything-we-say politically correct message vomited upon me, i'm good with other games. Seems to me that a LOT of gamestudios are getting their asses handed to them, and to be quite honest, they deserve to be put out of business for pushing their agenda's down our throats. And it's not just their message, it's their shitty design, their crap storyline, the awful dialogue, the horrendous combat,...and the list goes on, that makes their games total dogshit. When i look at the older games in my library, these "new" games amount to 5% of their quality in every aspect. The graphics engine might have changed/improved, but that's nullified by all the rest.
Tbh even the old Dragon Age games had plenty of LGBT characters, but they were good characters that just happened to be LGBT and didn't make that their whole personality. If you're a long time Bioware fan, you shouldn't be against diversity or inclusion in their game because they've been doing that for a long time, but the difference is they used to do that with really well written and well rounded characters that were more than just a sexuality. That's what's missing here, not the fact that this is present.
the biggest waste is not having a "negative" dialogue option. I want to be able to tell them "i dont care" or "shut up" if they go on about their identity
yeah lol, even the bottom one is still usually agreement, just with a bit more of a stern approach. Been playing this for 10 hours or so and while there are moments in it that are good, most of the game simply floats along and is completely forgettable. the companion quests especially... where youre supposed to get to know more about them, it all feels totally pointless and it is the first Dragon Age game where I really do not want to do ANY sidequest, and simply went straight into only doing the main quest and that is it.
As someone who played every Dragon Age game and even all the DLCs, even the subpar ones, this isn't Dragon Age. This is just modern audience slop masquerading around in a Dragon Age costume, which is fitting since it was released on Halloween.
I’d pay someone to mod in a mass effect Renegade interrupt where Rook just gives her a solid right hook and after she drops just screams “lack of consent isn’t consent!!!” And then runs away, it’d fit the theme of the game and would genuinely be funnier than any of the jokes they try to tell
It's just tragic. I grew up and live near Edmonton, where Bioware is based. Bioware was spoken with pride around here, and for the last year I've been playing through their classics for the first time; and to see this, how far a great local company I love has fallen... wow.
I watched a black man stream this and he was appalled at how white men were portrayed in the first hours of this game. I watched a woman stream this game and she was infuriated at the character creator being incapable of making an actual woman. I watched a trans man stream this game and watched him pause the stream because he cringed so hard at how trans identity was handled. He was the target demographic and he hated it. I watched a gamer stream it on nightmare difficulty. He had to pause and prove to his audience multiple times that it was as challenging as he could possibly make it. And I watched one of my favorite IPs go down in flames.
They are definitely women. She went to do 10 pushups and ended up doing only 4. Nobody in the room was able to count that high. And the whole thing was to draw attention to herself while pretending not to draw attention to herself.
If the western education system actually cared about 'educating' rather than worrying about what gender the kids identify as, maybe they would be able to count past 4.

But yeah the clothes in this game aren't great either, a lot of the materials look synthetic, too smooth and shiny.
I don't even understand why trans would even be a thing in these games. This is a world filled with magic where people can cast spells and turn themselves into frigging bears, or invisible and god knows what. Yet removing a dong or growing some boobs or full-on changing sex isn't just a spell away? It's just dumb writing. If they wanted to have a trans character they could just say "oh yes I grew up a boy but I went to a magecaster who turned me into a woman and now I have a husband and 3 children" or whatever. End of story. It makes absolutely zero sense to be anything else. Same for when the devs for Hogwarts Legacy threw in a trans character in a lame attempt to appease activists - completely insane given the context.
In a world of magic, trans isn't an issue. When the sex change isn't just illusion magic, their isn't a social problem with it. That's something they'll likely never understand.
It's not that simple. But the sad thing is, bioware already tacled the issue, and showed support in Inqusition. Krem is a transmasc character. He opens up if you befriend him. And you can bring up the changing with magic. And because back then they knew how to write, they used it as a way to reinforce the common people's fear of magic, and why the circles originaly seemed like a good idea. Intending to protect the mages from angry mobs with pitchforks just as much as they ment to protect the common folk from them. So Krem gets upset, raises his voice and sais: "What? No! I would never let magic like that anywhere near me!!!" He is happy with his lot, he can pass, the chief and the chargers accept him, and if you did the right thing and didn't turn Cole more human ( Sorry Varic, you are the best bro, the Garrus of the series, but I'm with Solas on that one. By the way "look how they butchered my boy" Varric), he can get it on with the bard girl in the inn. All this shoes the writers' intention to be inclusive, fits in the story, and the voice acting is delivered with emotion. 10/10 storytelling. Or another exemple Dorian being gay and his father trying to use bloodmagic to change his thinking. Which isn't a trans thing, but still shoes representation can be done in a meaningfull way, that contributes to the story, or at the very least fits into the established lore. Harry Potter's magic system is wierd. It's a soft magic system where they can do whatever they want, until it's inconvinient for the story, then suddenly it turns into a hard system and there are rules. Rowling is not a good writer... In universe it is very hard to do permanent changes to someone, hence why most characters have glasses, they can't do with magic what we do with laser eye surgery. That said she was handled bad. Why wasn't there a quest where she asks us to break into the forbidden section of the library for a book that maybe contains a spell? Or why isn't she chugging polyjuice potion every hour to fight body disphoria? She just exists so they can tell they had a trans character. Either don't put in one or give her more depth. Frankly I felt more insulted then supported.
@@totga1 I honestly think it is that simple. This is a FANTASY game so just imply that in this world people can change sex and do. It could be a small section of throwaway dialogue, or if the game wants to make it something more there could even a vendor in town who offers to change your appearance and sex. After you do it the other NPCs could even remark that they like your new look or whatnot. I'm not sure why Hogwarts, a childrens series of books is exempt from this either, or why we should classify it as hard or soft magic. It's fiction, so just put the conceit in. The problem is solved, becomes canon and means the game is not afflicted by a real life curse - the Sweet Baby kiss of brain death.
@@drxym So, your solution to the infantile dialogue, lucklaster story, generally bad writing and disrespect to the source material (the first three games) is more bad writing and disrespect with a handwave. Sure in a new setting go ahead and establish the lore like that. In Dragon Age there is a general fear and distrust of magic. This is a very important core plotpoint. Mages until recently were locked up in circles of magis so no access to them. Big magical effect like that requires crapton of lyrium to fuel it. Lyrium strictly controlled by the Chantry. Sure you can go to the carta too, good luck on that second morgage on your hovel random peasant. The lack of lyrium acces is what prompts lots of mages to turn to blood magic. Would a mage risk getting caugth for a rando who goes to them for a sex change? Some might, probably not many. Close friends maybe. Like the inquisitor offered it to Krem. Some for monetary gain. Good luck on the third morgage. Yes, it is a possibility in Dragon Age's world, that's been already established, but it's just not that simple. Getting in a vendor selling it to anyone and sayin now it's just canon would be the same as they wrote in a bunch of bs into veilguard and now it's unfortunetly canon. We categorise things to have clear definitoins so all parties of a discussion know what we mean when we mention something. I brought it up to illustrate how messy HP's lore is and why I don't have such a ready made answer as with dragon age. Then my conclusion was that it fits into it but going by how there isn't precedence for permanent modifications it's probably not an easy thig to do. And right this moment I just remembered Nymphadora Tonks is in fact a character and she is a big deal because she is a metamorphmagus. A very rare ability someone has to born with, and can not be learned. This rarenes of such spell gave me the idea for the sidequest to look for it in the forbidden parts of the library, to give a trans character some depth instead of just shoehorning it in for the sake of having a trans character. If I'm honest handwaving in an easy to use everyday solution for a sexchange into Harry Potter lore wouldn't bother me as much as doing it with Dragon Age. Partially beacause it's already sooo messy, who cares about more inconsistency. But mostly because I like DA lore more. I would like to see it handled with more care... at this point I should write: would have liked to see it hanled with more care. Thanx Bioware!
I’m so angry with how this game turned out. I’ve been waiting ten years for a sequel to dragon age inquisition and they come up with this? I could forgive them wasting all that time making Anthem and mass effect andromeda as long as they would eventually get back on track with Dragon Age. Instead they decided to make another abomination. FML
Best not to wait years for games any more. I don't. Then it doesn't hurt at all when yet another woke piece of trash is delivered suddenly and I can just walk away.
Whenever a company sells out to EA the death spiral is inevitable. I'm surprised Bioware was able to keep their key employees together as long as they did but all their competent people are long gone now.
Remember when gaming was just this niche hobby all of us, boys, girls, men and women enjoyed together all the time because of the top notch quality, no concern about microtransactions, no broken glitchy mess on release day, no pondering if it’s going to be woke or sabotaged by wokesters and you only had to wait like 2-3 years for the sequel? Good times
i feel like DAI ironically handled LGBTQ representation so much better than veilguard. We had characters that were gay, lesbian, and trans and they felt natural to the setting and the themes were handled with so much care, this feels like such a letdown in comparison
DAI was still a sincere, centered game that was genuinely curious about Thedas and its people. Remember Dorian discussing the socioeconomic merits of Tevinter slavery? It managed to discuss it without endorsing it. You can go from being a flat atheist to a fervent believer and all viewpoints are entertained. Iron Bull managed to bring BDSM to attention without hammering it into you. Krem was transgender but does not talk about it at length unless you ask him specifically about it. DAI was still a world where things happen because it's a living, breathing world where people interact, people come up with ways to navigate the he-said she-said mess of Thedosian history, and all groups acted according to their own value systems, with the only judgement being cause and effect. and now we don't have DAI, we have DEI, a wilful attempt to use a creative license to hammer an agenda into people. There is no desire to explore the setting, there's only a desire to impose upon it.
It did. Saw a excerpt of some review mentioning that. But they were crying saying the representation in that game was basically "half assed" because Bioware took the time to make up terms for things like being trans in that chars culture (been a while so I don't remember their name), so ya know world building etc. instead of awkwardly ham fisting in terms like "non binary" into the dialogue like this one. And that one char, I just call Trash because I can't remember the real name and because it's far more fitting, has to be one of the least likeable chars in a video game. And that's just from the clips I've seen of cutscenes in other videos. The fact the writers can't see that chars like Trash that are SO grating like that do transgender people no favors, and gives them some of the worst representation possible is hilarious to me.
I remember in mass effect 3 when Cortez told me he had a husband, I'd never heard a video game character say it before, but it wasnt forced, it wasnt out of nowhere, and it wasnt preachy, and most importantly, Cortez had a personality beyond the fact he was gay, which is why i was so caught off guard. Thats how you write a character, their sexual orientation should be a footnote, not their only feature
Remember when BioWare made the Mass Effect trilogy with otherwise universally praised gameplay, dialogue choices, and unforgettable charactersb that were diverse and had their own identity that pretty much everyone enjoyed even if the characters didn't reflect who they were in the real world? Good times.
Well, no, the trilogy was always flawed; gameplay in the first game was weak, the second game had a pointless plot, and the third game had one of the worst endings in video game history. Still, they were oveall decent, and better than this.
I don't remember Mass Effect 3 being particularly well received. In fact, I remember it being a massive dumpster fire and the start of BioWare's decline.
More games should strive to be like AstroBot, no crinj and stomach churning politics or forced messaging at all, just pure fun and whimsical escapism like what made games so successful in the first place .
The thing is Dragon Age was never about pure fun and whimsical escapism. It's always been a novel in playable form. A good Dragon Age game gives you the same satisfaction as watching a great TV show or reading a great novel - a good Dragon Age game is good literature. This is...well, whatever this is.
"Conversations that feel more like a therapy session for the writers than anything real people would ever say". Amen! Its the FIRST game I ever saw that has the tag first, before any other tag.Even Life is Strange has a "choices matter" tag first.I am not anti lgbt+ but if you put it first it sets off a lot of alarms.
Dragon Age: Origins wasn't just a game where the main party are all people with radically different temperaments, backgrounds and beliefs that frequently butt heads even late into the game, but in the macro scale it was a story about learning the state of a whole country of really dissimilar peoples. Every province had factional conflict with different justifications behind their deeds, and most of them had justified grievances causing the tension. Those where the morals were more obvious, the game tempted you to take easier paths by favouring the more obviously corrupt faction. Good deeds meant something. Moreover your motives were to unify the fractured lands to a mutual goal. Nothing so optimistic as an enduring peace, but just enough cohesion to defeat a threat that could wipe out everyone. You could justify being pragmatically cruel, and be internally justified in doing so. There were few cozy solutions, everything had fangs. The greatest victories were bittersweet. What a great game.

Best dialogue in 2024: Dreadnought “WHERE ARE THE TRAITORS!!!?“ Titus “They are everywhere.” Gadriel “Honorable Battle Brother, join us so you may satiate your rage!” Dreadnought “Lead me to the slaughter!” Four lines had 10 times more weight, impact, and depth than “I think I’m going to kiss you”
The lines that these characters say to each other (and the delivery of said lines) cannot even be considered dialogue, it's a sermon. They are not having a conversation with each other, they are lecturing the gamer.
You're assuming activist writers aren't on par with HR Karens these days. A woman like the one in the twitter bio in the video doesn't need any HR in order to be insuffurable.

Ya the dialog is very much from our world. It’s not fantasy themed at all.
I believe they did exactly that for DA:I I'm pretty sure that game had a gay char and even a trans char. @@garytwinem5275 I mean they definitely did have bright clothes in medieval times, if you look at real medieval paintings and stuff they're usually wearing brighter colors than in pseudo-medieval movies and games.
That's something they'll likely never understand.
excellent point

Good times

I miss those times…
Everything was so much better back then.
The reason is normies, it's always the normies.
i feel like DAI ironically handled LGBTQ representation so much better than veilguard.
Who cares, keep the woke shit out of games. 99% of people aren’t insane and don’t give a shit about the stupid “agenda”
I rolled my eyes but it wasn’t disruptive to the plot.
The best part is he can die unlike every other fg in games
Cortez was such a bro and I liked that he never tried coming onto you in case you weren’t into that it had to be you that made the first move
I agree, although the last recording of his husband was pretty damn cringe.
As long as the game is good, the brainwashing is fine. You people are lost.

Trying to Brainwash the young as usual
