    I find myself remembering Mass Effect Andromeda, and how much I hated Cora for constantly telling me about how she used to be an Asari Commando. I dislike Taash for the same reason. It isn't what they are, it's the fact that they go out of their way at every possible turn to make sure you don't forget. We had maybe a total of 1 in depth convo with Cremisius in DA Inquisition about them being trans, and they were literally my favorite of Bull's Chargers because they had an actual personality. It's best summed up from a conversation between Carver and Anders in DA2:
    Anders: You don't like me, Carver?
    Carver: I don't like you.
    Anders: That's unfortunate, hating someone just because they're a mage is a shameful thing.
    Carver: I don't hate you because you're a mage, I hate you because you won't shut up about it.

    Dragon Age Veilguard is a Dragon Age game in name only. Do you remember that part in the beginning of the game where you unpack your bag, and Rook literally stands there spouting exposition to himself? The story telling in this game is so bad. They broke the first rule of storytelling, show don't tell. Instead of showing us ANYTHING interesting about Rook, everything is dumped through exposition. The way everyone talks to each other is like they are all walking on egg shells to not offend each other. Everyone is so nice, everything is sanitized. I do recommend beating the game though, and I recommend you get the bad ending because it's literally the best one.

    The dialogues in this game were created for a 5 year old child.
    This game is an insult to Dragon Age, the characters' conversations make you sleepy, it looks like a Discovery Kids cartoon, regardless of your choice there are no serious consequences in the conversations, the graphics are from cell phones, the combat is boring and scripted, number of skills are reduced and you cannot control your companions during combat. Now there's an icon that shows where you should go because they made this game for 5 year olds, not to mention the puzzles in this game which involve putting relics in place of another relic.
    The map designs are horrible, because everything is in the sky??? and the damn colors of this game, the menus in various places are all purple and brilliant, this is not dark fantasy neither here nor in the Andromeda Galaxy!!!!

  • @areadhead
    @areadhead 15 дней назад +4

    Thanks for sharing your views. I feel like I want to hear actual opinions about it. I've only got a short way into the game but I've found that it's actually the exploring the ruins and looting that feels unsatisfying. I guess I miss the open world more than I thought. This is very simplified. The thing is I'm a big lover of the Inquisition Trespasser and Solas storyline and I just need to get to the end of this to feel I concluded that. Truthfully I think I've played Elden Ring quite a lot the last couple of years and it's hard to switch into a more shallow pop style of fantasy play. This is much less dark feeling. I think it's OK but there isn't the humour of Hawke's sarcastic comments or Fenris v Anders arguing. There's no dying mothers or choosing whether to kill a child because of demons. No killing your friend that planted a bomb in a church. It's more Saturday family movie vibes. Not even blood on your clothes. I think I will just keep slowly going through to the end. Enjoy your playing

    Saying the combat is close to perfect is one of the more insane things I've ever heard. Movement and attacking, with a mage at least, feels lethargic, hand held in terms of detonation and attack indicators, zero depth with damage sponges for enemies, low enemy variation and useless npc party members that exist solely to make big explosions on combo

    • @Edge2177
      @Edge2177 13 дней назад +2

      When you realize that a 3 hit combo with NPCS is your strongest detonator the other 18 skills are useless. Not to mention bosses have the same boring HP wall to get through. It'd have been better if some enemies had weaknesses to specific damage types so you'd have reason to bring a specific companion.

    I finished Veilguard for the first time today and from my perspective the story of Dragon Age ended with the main story of Inquisiton. I'm ignoring the existence of the Trespasser DLC because it's the only reason for Veilguard to exist.
    It's not even about they/them and Taash and stuff like that. There just wasn't nearly enough Dragon Age in Veilguard.

    i reinstalled BG 3 after pirating DA:V(deleted it after 3 hours because holy shit its so boring) and was instantly hooked even though i played it once already, its actually so well written and gives you the DA:O feeling like nothing else. I replayed Origins already 3 times so if you feel the same get BG3. This game made absolutley no money, has 0 replay reason, probably killed off the studio for good(lets hope) demonized an entire demographic while failing to cater to the rest in a meaningful way. WTF was this game even trying to do. No wonder they hated all BG 3 release. Its side quests have more engagement and rp fantasy feeling than this whole game.

  • @What_do_I_Think

    One of the best things, that I found in BG3 (I know, not everybody likes turn based, I do), was how the companions are created. They are interesting and have character. Exactly what you describe. I also played DA:O for a while and there it was similar. I just did not like the combat there. And as I read the reviews of the other parts, I completely lost interest in this series. Though, I even planned to buy Veilguard just to try it .... but after the reviews I read and the stuff they did with the review codes, I decided not to do that.

    I’ve played through it one time now and I will say after seeing how all the systems work and itemization is I truly feel like it would have been better served as an in between spin off that was just mass effect3 multiplayer. So many of their loot choices are clearly left over from when it was a live service game. Maybe then they could have made a Dragon Age from the ground up rather then trying to revert the live service that this was for many years of it’s development.

    I don't even agree with the sentiment that, "The rest of the game is good, it's just the writing." The writing is by far the worst part of the game, this is true. But there's no roleplay in the game at all. You can never disagree with your companions, never have arguments, never solve companion disagreements beyond treating them all like four year olds, you can never push back on anything they say. And even when it comes to the MSQ, you're just playing through the exact curated steps that the devs want you to take, no variance allowed. You have to choose between the home cities of two of your companions, but it's 100% black and white, you save one and doom the other. Railroad, no nuance. You pick a companion to go with you, but there are THREE OTHER UNUSED COMPANIONS who don't go to the other location??? Including the self-described monster hunter I JUST recruited????????? And then there's the combat. Insanely limited upgrade options, the tree is full of filler buffs that don't feel like they do anything, and the enemy variety is just so poor. The third time I saw some big monster with an axe, and it did the two side slams followed by a sweep, despite being totally different monster models, I gave up. It feels like a mobile game. Which would go a long way to explaining the Fortnite art style, extremely dumb faction upgrade economy, and so much more.
    I'm glad you found things to enjoy, but in my opinion, even the "good" stuff never gets above a 5/10. There are dozens of games that do it better, including games like God of War 2018, which Veilguard is clearly desperate to copy. This game is such a tragic letdown on every level.

    I can't believe I can't be evil,. Wtf where they thinking? And companions not being active characters in battle is also baffling. To me the issue isn't even whatever message they wanna put, games are art and DA was always "woke" but dumbing down everything is an alarming trend in every OG franchise from the Elderscrolls to this then Mass effect next.

    The combat is only good for the first few hours. There's little variety in gameplay in between the mage/rogue/warrior aside from their weapon of choice. It gets old when you're over the flashy effects because there's no tactics involved in the fights. Use all your skills/combos > basic attack and parry/dodge until cooldowns > repeat ad infinitium.
    As a mage, you still have learn to engage in melee range, dodge and parry to be able to get a hit in because the companions are worthless, Davrin's taunt hardly works(I can see the taunt icon on the enemy and it still targets the player), so all aggro is on the player. The combo effect is all the same, extra AOE damage, whoop dee doo. Skill selection is extremely limited for how many potential skills you can get, not to mention the insanely long cooldowns, and the shared cooldown on companion powers is just plain stupid.
