Looks like an old Chet Atkins model had a baby with a thinline tele, it's gorgeous and sounds awesome.
That’s because that’s EXACTLY what this guitar is! It’s a clone of the Fender Custom Shop “Chicken” model Telecasters, which were designed as a tribute to Gretsch. It is NOT copyright or trademark infringement either, since Fender owns the marketing/production/distribution rights to Gretsch, though NOT the brand itself-that still belongs to the Gretsch family.
I absolutely love the looks and idea behind this guitar. A set neck Tele with a Bigsby type tremolo is a nice touch. I would most likely put a roller bridge on it myself. I will have to watch the video again because I didn't hear the scale length ( 24-3/4 or 25-1/2 ) and it doesn't say on the website. Under 7 pounds with a Bigsby is unheard of. I think I need one of these.
I dont know it , but the construction is typical for a 24,3 ! Great !
Have it in red it's gibson scale
IMO. Best looking guitar under $800
Personal preferences aside, that's essentially saying it's on par visually with anything under $800, and I agree even if it's not quite my thing. I love the flame maple burst, gold hardware, and white/cream aesthetic though, I'm into jazz some so I'd consider getting this but I'm normally more of a hard rock/metal guy. This has a bluesy rock vibe to it.
Great looking guitar but the pick guard would have to go.
I don’t know… It’s got the right Gretsch-style shape, but the color doesn’t look quite right. If only I could make a pickguard in the right color…
@@zuperdee I agree with you, I’m a wood guy and I think it has a gorgeous top. I’m gonna look into one it’s a good look .
What a beautiful guitar.. love the look & at 6.6 lbs AWESOME I like light weight guitars. nice tip about the bridge lean.. nice Review & Awesome Playing... Cheers 🍻🥃🥃😎 🎸🎼🎵🎶🎶
Glad you liked it!
Such a little thing, but impresses the hell out of me, is the binding in both F-holes ! Most big time guitar makers and just about all cheapo guitar makers skip the binding around the F-holes. It makes them look like they were cutting corners to save pennies. I applaud you peeps at Firefly !!!
I love all the binding which, as we all know, gives a guitar all its good tone. 😂
Max take it from a fan, I enjoy your playing much more when you play slower… that at the beginning was soulful !! 👍
Thank you!
Max Sir,
.....you have an amazing guitar there
it sounds great & we know Firefly are solid
thanks indeed for sharing
ben
Thanks for listening!
What do you use for strings? I have a similar one but it's not a firefly. With the long space for the Bigsby all the strings I bought are too short to reach all the way the peg on the high strings
Only problem with firefly is it seems like they only make 12 a year. You can never get one.
They make a lot and many that say sold out may be listed as available again that night or another day. A lot of people are buying these. If there's specific models you want you have to keep checking and grab them quick.
Max. That guitar is insane!!!!!!!😮
love that but why would they use the type of bridge that is normally used on a full hollow
body?
If anyone wants to give me one for my birthday I would be thrilled?
You know, I was looking for a nice back porch strummer in a thinline.
I was thinking HB, but I think I may go with this beauty instead.
Only thing that bothers me is it seems that the pickups are REALLY picking up that selector switch. Either that or the switch itself is really loud.
This next drop of FF is going to interesting to say the least, I have 3 on my list I want.
Same
I'm waiting on the FFLX drop next month. The spalt top with Chrome hardware will be mine.
I might also go for the spalted but I don't know yet
I have 4!
gretsch makes some of the best looking guitars with timeless classic designs and colors patterns. This one definitely shares the Gretsch flair especially the thumbnail inlays in the top of the fretboard. I owned one and really liked the bigsby style tremolo system. you dont buy them to dive bomb like a floyd, rather they give the best subtle trem notes.
OR slacking the strings BEFORE you put the spring in. That's what I did, and it works well.
Same thing I did, but it still moved just enough to set my intonation perfect as it was just barely off before setting the spring.
You can live in make believe luxury if you buy Chinese boutique knock off products. Need a $700 Patek Philippe ?
Why do stuff have to be expensive to be considered good? Some people care waaay to much about what others think.
😫 Not ANOTHER Firefly!?! No! I don't need another cool-looking, fun budget priced Firefly! Stop it Max, stop it!
Do I look or is it already sold out😂
This current GUITAR WORLD JUST KEEPS DELIVERING ! Better guitars for less money!
I've had the black version since early summer, it's gorgeous, plays and sounds great.
Well, they sold out after your upload, and just before I got to buy one. Thanks, Max. Lol.
Firefly is absolutly KILLING IT. I still want that white HSS with the ash grain.
I had one and ended up selling it. It was over 9 lb! Just too much weight for me in the Strat
@@Ksantipacat I bought the Sire LP copy. Freaking things weighs 10 lbs.
FACT: This is the first review I’ve seen of this Gretsch-like FFTL model! I believe it’s based on the Fender Custom Shop “Chicken” model Telecasters, which were designed as Fender’s tribute to Gretsch, and are VERY rare. I realize this guitar is probably not your usual style, but nevertheless, you actually seem to be able to coax some pretty convincing shred-type tone from those pickups!
Oh, the " Chicken Pickin'" guitars.😁
Schecter has one too. It’s a pretty slick guitar. I do rather fancy this madlab creation.
Looks like a potential Rockabilly Mo'chine. Maybe a TV Jones in the neck ,Thanx Max ,you do outstanding reviews ! I think I've narrowed it down to this guitar and the zuwai for an affordable hollowbody maybe both !
A Gretsch Tele Thinline. Very nice!
Looked like Fender Stradivarius to me tbh
Thanks, guys...it's sold OUT. lol
I Am A Canadian! They don't sell them here. None of you Americans will ship it to me. Can I get One?
Where in canada?
@@briansmith1760 Hamilton, ON
NIce peace. What's the fretboard radius? Never heard it mentioned, did I miss something? thx
Roller saddles seem like a great upgrade for this.
Your positive review seems to have sold them out, on the website!
All modern guitars should be awesome. It`s not like it takes rocket science to design and build them.
If it's semi-hollow, I wonder why they used a wooden bridge base? It seems to me that the tune-o-matic studs could be direct drilled into the wood, (without the wooden base) and keep the bridge from leaning backwards. This would also lessen the string angle of the strings as they go under the B50's tension roller.
Pretty sweet 👍👍
It sure is pretty . 😊👍🏻
You're so fn pro at this bro
As a Bigsby user for many years, that imitation Bigsby has a stupidly tall spring in it. There are a number of very cheap alternative springs to drop in there in a couple of seconds, notably the one sold by Reverend guitars, which will drop the bar right down. I use one every day and it is very soft and smooth and the bar angle is where I like it.
And from what I understand some of them are really amazing.
I always forgot to ask when I was in there, but the guitar tech who worked at the Sam Ash on Sunset Blvd used to talk about them.
I always like the taller spring for the same reason Maxx pointed out, but if you have any links or brands that would be awesome! Always looking to up my knowledge game.
That is a beautiful guitar..
Nicely balanced review. I like the fact that you pointed out some of the cons and things to be careful about.
Thanks!
You're killing it Max!
Dont buy guitars with brass coated metal . The gold color, wears off, fast. Showing the Siver color underneath . 😣😳😡
They look good, though ...
bro i forgot i was watching a video and just vibed out that whole demo
Nice!
I've been there man... ( Cheech and Chong......I think )
Very nice demo ✨️ looks + sounds sweet 🎶🎸🎶 Rock on! ArtyThan ☆♡☆
Congratulations. I finally got settled down and GAS free. Now I’m super GASsy.
The Bridge on a Gretch Brian Setzer also swings, but this dont changes the tuning. This guitar seems to be great, its an ideal Rock a billy guitar. Also the tone, tone control a bit down , will work for Jazz. Great unbelievable price . I will check it out for sure next days ! I could buy 20 for one Gibson ES 335 ( my favourite ).
Great demo as usual. I have enough "big name" guitars, and now into buying "cheap" guitars. I have a thinline copy from Raven West Guitars with p-90s.
If the Firefly was routed for p-90s, I'd buy it. I have a set of boutique handmade p-90s that cost more than the Firefly.
Love this channel. Just shows that high price doesn't always equal quality.
I have an older firefly tile thin line. This thing is hot rodded to heaven though. A Fender USA Twsted Tele bridge pup wired up Esquire style, with 4th position (cocked wah mod). A modern (non CuNiFe) Wide Range humbucker in the neck. Put a Fender Jazzmaster wiring kit with the rhythm switch as the coil split, another slider switch for phase reverse (all this loaded on the lower section of a 70s custom style pick guard) and a 3 way toggle in the upper bout. I did the math once but I do not recall the number of different tones you can get before you even touch the tone knob/roller. Something like 63 or 67. An absolute ridiculous number though. Fun guitar.
Edit: it’s the standard pick guard on a thin line- not a custom, so the electronics are inline
Hi, love your content. I am disabled & love in Cornwall Ontario Canada, how could i get one, I really need the therapy, broke my neck in '96 and want to play more. Thank you, be well.
That thing looks sick! I think it’s a lot harder for guitar companies to be original when making T-style guitars vs S-style. I think Firefly knocked this one out of the park in terms of sound and looks!
thorough review. and the sunburst is already sold out 🙂
Floating bridge? REALLY?
Sounds good but!
Drop a ROLLER TOM for the bridge, & your tuning will be even better!
that looks and sounds great... is the vibrato a littlesby, or a bigsby? i really dig these kinds of pickups...
?GUITAR Max?....i have ordered this very same Knock off Bigsby ...what is your honest opinion about it?
The gold volume knobs are way better looking than the plastic ones ! 😯👍🏻
I wonder if these are made by the same company that makes the Gretsch Electromatics and Streamliners?
It would look better with the pickguard removed, to show the full fhole cutout art. Lets face the reality, the vast majority of guitarists never need a pick guard because they never PLAY their guitars that much.
It's a beauty for sure. Too bad it isn't headless.
just bought one and their 338 also have the madcat and 2 gretch 1 fender player 1 Johnson by AXL strat 1 SLIK strat 1 parts caster and 2 Chibson LP All completely works and upgraded but the fireflys are stock!
I like it ! I just wish they came in a lefty model........
Seems to be a nice and reasonably good guitar, but best looking guitar under $ 200,-- / 250,-- 🤔🙄?
Unfortunately not quite 😒!
I am well aware, this is just my own personal opinion, but I am so fed up by the sheer infinitely and inflationary number of "Teardrop-Burst" finishes, that I can`t even find appropriate words to express it 😤!
I’m now a FireFly fan and I am a proud owner of 9 and I just bought a FireFly super strat in matte black and I bought this one before this review came out and I am very glad I bought this in the black and I bought it at a good price and it is a sharp looking guitar 🎸 and the matte black is really sharp as well. I now have 12 because I bought a FireFly black tele reg type open box sale which I have never seen but it is a new guitar 🎸. Thanks Max for this video and other videos, appreciate your work.

Do they make left handed models of this?....I WANT ONE
6.6 lbs?
AYFKM?
That tracks with good mahogany and it being loud acoustically.
this really puts in perspective that gibibson and fonder are overpriced
Max can you please list the scale length?? Does anyone know? Thanks
Have it in red and surprisingly it's a Gibson scale!
Thank you so much for replying. I was hoping it was 24.75. Now I will have to buy one.
Beautiful guitars but unfortunately they don't ship to Australia so we miss out.
Google how Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine sets up a floating bridge. It may be for a Jazzmaster, but the principle is the same. Actual starting point for his setup is where you have it now.
1665.00 chinese yuan = 230.00 US dollars, FYI.
That's not the best looking, it ain't even shaped like a V or have a single sharp point man?!
Its gone. Your link goes '404', and that page's 'FFTL' has other models but no longer offers that one you are showcasing. : (
I almost forgot! Could You do a demo on the new Donner DMT 700 all mahogany? Love the Channel, and Long time Fan! Thanks Max!
RUclipsr Darrell Braun really likes those Bigsby bridges. They look real odd to me, like an old device used for medical purposes.
you can use it for a medical purpose if you want. just don't tell us what that is.
Love it...but cheap materials won't...🤔 last! Or will they?
Super looking and sounding guitar for the $$. Too bad this guitar can't be found anywhere online. Wanna sell yours?
Damn ......looks and sounds great
Just buy a 1957 reissue bigsby 7/8” spring for under ten bucks that’s what I’ve always done on all my fireflies!
Ok, i just got a new $600 Gretsch, but that's sick. I'd be all about that if i was shopping right now.
Sadly, their guitars don’t seem to be available here in the UK.
Oh well.
This model is not listed on any website I could find. The only thing close was a black model for $350.00
if all their guitars are as good as the tele i bought, then the guitar in this video would be a really cool instrument. but i'm not a fan of the way it looks. it's a little too much. all the bling on this guitar are things i like on certain other guitars. however, all of them on one guitar is more than i prefer.
The link to the guitar is broken. 404 error msg says page not found.
Every time I see these videos about guitars under $300, the guitars are never available. WTF
Unfortunately it's NOT even listed on guitars garden website. Then section with telecaster style axes doesn't show anything close to this model. Nice tho, where ever he got it
Beautiful guitar, nice voice, too much hardware but the price doable..
I have the red one. It's awesome.
Thank you for the report!
The best looking guitar is NEVER a Telecaster. That's just a less ugly Tele.
Love your new guitar Max! Great video again!! 🙏👍🔥
Thanks again!
Are those actual Filtertron style pickups or did they just take humbuckers and put those covers on?
I onoy ask because even Schecter has done that sort of thing just as an aesthetic choice.
I am looking for my first guitar to learn to pass the time. The firefly brand seems to get a lot of traffic for the price range. And man, dont they sound amazing.
Looks and sounds great and is priced like only George and team can hit, but ... are those really F'Trons or just Humbuckers with a different cover? You should really slack the strings BEFORE you install the strings. Maybe it's your settings, but they just sound like mid-tier humbuckers in my Sennheisers. It is interesting that they've "borrowed" the thumbnail markers from the Gretsch lines.
They look like they are Filtertron-style height, so I doubt they are Gibson-style humbuckers. I’m guessing they could be upgraded with real TV Jones Filtertrons.
Looks great.
Does it hold a tuning if you dare to even look at the “bigsby”?
I'm like you I think it's mighty cheap to look so good if you like that you can always make it the way you like it on the whammy bar no prob jamming for the money later brother
I think you broke them Max, completely sold out, and not even showing on the site now
Please provide an update from the manufacturer as to when this guitar model will be available again.
I’d Love to see a Blacked out Carbon Matte or even sandblasted version! Totally Metal
Is the scale length like a Gretsch or a Fender?
Followed the link and went to the website directly, this guitar is no longer available. I would have loved to get one.
I have the black one. That floating bridge is a mess. I did what he suggested before even seeing this video, and it's still leaning back some. I'm going to install a roller bridge when I have time. Just don't like that it sits on that movable black wood piece. Intonation will need set with every string change. Other big issue is highly microphonic pickups that feedback way to easy. I don't know how he was able to demo that amount of distortion in this video. I disagree That you could play metal with that original setup as the Pick ups have too much feedback from being microphonic. The clean sound is great and fabulous. And so is the bisby clone. Very smooth. The neck is a little fat for my taste. This is the only one of my five fireflies that I would consider selling.
Why do all these kids brag about the great sound then crank up so much distortion and sustain they all sound like sh..
Bummer
I think they had a limited release... can't find it 😢
Seems to be unavailable ! 404 'Page not found' .
That guitar looks absolutely killer
Bigsby makes different springs that adres how high the trem arm sits.
It's a beauty. If only I needed another guitar. hmmm
