    One of the most important and long-lasting, yet lesser-known consequences of the war was Israel’s acquisition of nuclear weapons, as Israel’s participation in the war was a crucial factor in France decision to assist Israel in building up its nuclear weapons programme.

    • @jonathan13co
      @jonathan13co 2 года назад +2

      That is simply not true. Israel has had very good diplomatic ties with france (and the UK) since it's inception. France was one of their main arm suppliers. Besides, the french were known in assisting nuclear programs arond the world, including even iraq's in the 80s. It was profitable for them.

    • @MaxPower-11
      @MaxPower-11 2 года назад +11

      @@jonathan13co What I wrote is absolutely true. Israel for example has excellent diplomatic relations with say the USA, but the USA would never share nuclear weapons secrets with Israel (in fact, president Kennedy was adamant that Israel cease all nuclear weapons development and were it not for his assassination, Israel and the USA would have run into a major confrontation over Israel’s nuclear programme). The intense level of cooeration between France and Israel with respect to the development of nuclear weapons in the 1950s and early 60s rises far higher than what most countries with good diplomatic relations would be willing to share with each other. Once small example of this is that Israeli scientists were the only foreign nationals who were allowed to roam freely at Marcoule. Anyway, Israel’s cooperation with France during the Suez Crisis was one of the things which facilitated the two countries’ cooperation in the nuclear weapons development field rising to the level it did.

      You do aware to the fact that the UK heavily assisted the armies of the Arab countries during the first Arab-Israeli, war, right?
      The Jordanian army was literally led mainly by British officers, the RAF conducted almost daily reconnaissance missions against Israel. Israel shot down RAF planes that were about to attack Israel directly.
      The relations were very hostile and there was even a direct confrontation.
      And for being honest, why the heck would Britain ever perfer the interests of some 600,000 people, most of whom poor refugees in a very poor and small country with no resources, on the expense of good relations with many strong and large countries containing hundreds of millions of people, massive land areas and plenty of resources (Obviously oil one of the most important)?
      The answer? They never did.
      Not to mention that the Jews literally fought the British for decades for them to leave, and hundreds of thousands of refugees were at the time held hostage by the British internment camps (mainly in Cyprus).
      Don't forget that Israel was socialist and the only actual assistance it received at the time (aside from Jews world-wide), was a small arm delivery from Czechoslovakia (which of course was a Soviet puppet-state).
      You can even open Google and simply search "Arab-Israeli war" ot "UK-Israel historical relations" to see how incredibly wrong what you wrote is.

Many PKF missions have demonstrated that. The most brutal example was the slaughter of Sebrenica, Bosnia. Dutch UN troops were tasked of guarding Sebrenica, which was an UN declared safe heaven. The Dutch soldier had only 30 rounds of ammo, a few machineguns and no anti tank misseles. The Serbs attacked with tanks and slaughter 8000 muslim men.

    Could have added that the result of the Suez crisis really cemented the fact that France needed its own nuclear arsenal, which became true 4 years later, under the influence of De Gaulle who thought that is was simply a necessary condition to a foreign policy independent of that from the US.

      @@PlayerBRUV See, they may have had the influence to threaten their economies, but NATO isn’t a US-led dictatorship. The US has absolutely no authority to overrule members like the UK or France. These are all sovereign nations. Plus, even if they did have the authority to do so, NATO would be weak without France and Britain.
