Hey man awesome motor. I picked up one of these in Winnipeg Manitoba last fall. Put new coils in it got it running well and on the water this summer. Then the gear was slipping a bit under load. Gonna have to double check the shift linkage over the winter here. My choke is doing the exact same thing. Lol Thanks for that tip.

For sure check the clutch dog cradle inside the skeg. It can cause slipping!
It could be old gear lube causing it to slip too. It gets thick and grease like over time!
Flush it out and replace it with new 80/90 gear lube.
