  • These "Tips & Tricks" videos demonstrate little things I've learned that either fix a problem or help me work more efficiently in Immersed. In this video, I demonstrate how the screen load configuration "slots" work and I demonstrate one way that you might consider using the slots. In this case, I have them arranged on a scale where slot 1 is "large and far", and slot 4 is "small and close". This makes it easy to quickly adjust your screens as you move around in different environments.

      LOL! That's awesome!! It will 100% spice things up! I work from home 100% of the time and, even though my actual work didn't change, when I started working in Immersed, I've had so much more FUN working! I mean... every morning, when I "jack in" for work, I ask myself: "Where do I feel like working today?... On the beach? In an underground cavern? Orbiting the Earth? By the fireside in a mountain lodge overlooking a beautiful lake while it softly rains outside? Or... Or... Or..." I LOVE IT!!! 😀

    I’ve been recently considering making a feature request to the immersed developers, to provide a preference option that would prevent the environment from interfering with your screens. At one point I accidentally had my passthrough portal under the space station, and I wasn’t able to see it 😂
    Thanks for the tip! I was unaware immersed allowed saving different configurations like that;! I’m going to have to experiment. I really wish the immersed application on the desktop allowed keyboard shortcuts to be able to adjust/fine tune screen placement. That would pave the way for being able to automate the setup to an extent from the computer (ex. when outlook opens, put screens in this layout, with outlook in window 3.. etc)
    Thanks for the tip, as always! ☺️

    • @WorkInVR
      @WorkInVR  2 года назад +1

      Very true!! One thing I didn't show in the video is that, if I have my "slot 1" screens open (i.e. giant screens far away), and I navigate into the Cafe', the screens will either be completely outside the building or sometimes, the system will shrink them down (this seems to be dependent on the environment). But that messes up my slot configuration. So yes... that's an annoyance for sure. But if you get in the habit of changing your screens *before* changing environments, you can usually avoid that. Also, I agree about the keyboard shortcuts. There are a few similar feature requests out there that you can upvote. For example: immersed.kampsite.co/suggestions/51fa5cd2-2ba1-4660-b7bc-a7810517c8b3 , immersed.kampsite.co/suggestions/20f96e44-269f-4fb0-b0a3-107e11e60ac7 , and immersed.kampsite.co/suggestions/5b2f37a8-2573-47a1-8ccb-e3e0192968ed Glad you enjoyed the video!!

    Something else I wanted to mention; when I first started working from immersed, I initially was trying to simulate my work environment based off what I was used to in real life (typically one big screen, occasionally two). As time goes on though, I find that I’m increasingly reinventing my setup to things that would be unconventional in real life. Like for example: when I’m really concentrating on writing something that requires extra focus, it’s more comfortable for me to look slightly downward slightly behind my keyboard (as if I was using a typewriter). For this virtual monitor, I set it up as a small monitor laying almost flat, right behind my keyboard. When I’m not writing or structuring my syntax in there, I’ll either have terminal running full screen (for launching commands or navigating to files), or have a magnifier pane open that will show wherever mouse or cursor are active. Then I also dedicate oddball size screens to the side, to keep my calendar and email always active. I’m curious if your setup has continuously evolved since you started using full time.

    • @WorkInVR
      @WorkInVR  2 года назад +1

      Oh, absolutely... 100%... my setup is constantly evolving for sure! Sometimes, I'll see screenshots from folks in the #member-success channel on the Immersed Discord and I'll get inspired and try new things. (For those of you who don't know about that - check it out: immersed.com/community ). The biggest game-changer for me was switching to a chair-mounted keyboard tray so I can swivel around. In this way, I can virtually encircle myself with multiple screens. I don't have to crank my neck around to see them, I can swivel around in my chair so my neck is always relaxed. I also don't have to reach forward to get to the keyboard. I can almost recline in my office chair. It works so great. In case you haven't seen it, I show this in my video about ergonomics: ruclips.net/video/MbsaPjH9eCk/видео.html That was a bit of a hassle to figure out and set up, but it's soooooo worth it!! But for sure, I'm constantly tweaking things. Get creative and share your setup on the Discord in #member-success to inspire me and others!! 🙂

      @@WorkInVR Your ergonomics video was a tremendous inspiration to me sir! I’ve watched it SEVERAL times, and everything since haha. At the time, I had started dabbling with doing certain tasks (just coding actually) in vr, but didn’t have the time to dedicate to fully settling in. Immersed was the killer app that completely shifted my perspective enough to actually want to get a quest 2. Your videos gave me the confidence boost that this is doable full time like I was aiming for. My desk has since gone through a radical overhaul as I’ve put together game plan, tried to see what does & doesn’t work, revise. I considered the 360 keyboard tray idea a few times, but I have to incorporate my specific mechanical keyboard’s cord in to however I do it (because I’m just stubborn like that about my keyboard lol). For now I just have a keyboard shelf that I can easily shift back and forth (and anywhere in between) with a 90 degree range of freedom. For now it seems to work, though I may have to go back to the 360 idea eventually. The one thing I haven’t quite figured out how to handle with the 360 idea is the pass through portal for the keyboard. I have an idea of setting up a round passthrough portal right where I sit. Then I would lock chair so wheels are stationary and my turn radius would match. That way no matter where I turned, my visibility would be constant. I have such a hard time using the hand controls to move windows though, I’m often afraid to experiment, because I’m afraid I’m going to mess everything up lol. Another reason I’m glad to know I can make separate configurations! ☺️
      I will make a video eventually, but I might need to get some tips about getting the passthrough to record (I’m not sure if that’s still a thing, or how everyone has figured out how to accomplish that now). To be continued ..
      Anyway, I’m so excited to dive into the forums tonight. Thanks again! Corey

      Hi there - if you're on Windows, right-click on the desktop and click Display Settings. At the top, where you can drag the displays to rearrange them, check the drop-down box. Be sure it says "Extend desktop to this display". Also, if you press the Windows Key + P you should get a pop-up. Be sure this also says "Extend". If it says "Second Screen Only", then you won't see your main laptop screen in Immersed. Also, be sure to join the Immersed Discord Community here: immersed.com/community You can post questions there as well!

    is it possible to take a screenshot in immersed and display it like a post-it note? this would be super useful as there's sometimes static information you need, but often scroll past the page. I often take a photo of my screen (via mobile phone) and using a stand to prop it up so I can read it.

    • @WorkInVR
      @WorkInVR  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi there - there's a couple things you can do here. Since you're streaming your screens, you can use a screenshot tool on your computer. If you want to screenshot your POV in VR, you can do that by opening the Oculus menu (by looking at your right palm and pinching your pointer finger and thumb together). On the Oculus menu that pops up, there is a camera icon... click that, click resume, then look at whatever you want to screenshot in VR. There will be a flashing red light and it will take a screenshot after a few seconds. That image is stored in "files" on your headset. You can share the image with yourself using the Quest Files app or, if you use SideQuest, you can plug your headset into your laptop (using a USB-C cable), and copy it onto your laptop/computer. Once the screenshot is on your computer, you can display it on one of your immersed screens.

      Thanks so much!! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos in my channel! You kinda stumped me on the graphics card question. Honestly, I don't know much about that side of things. I'm running a stock Windows Surface Laptop 3. It came with an Intel Iris Plus Graphics Card which has 8G of GPU memory. I don't know anything else about the graphics card, TBH. But I can tell you that this card works flawlessly with Immersed. Just smooth as silk. This laptop pushes 2496 x 1664 resolution by default. The Oculus Quest 2 only pushes 1920 x 1832 per eye. So there is some loss of fidelity. However, the resolution is still good enough for crisp text so I can write code in here all day. If you want to know more about the benefits and limitations of specific graphics cards and how well or poorly they work with Immersed, I would suggest you visit the Immersed Discord here: immersed.com/community There, you will find lots of folks who are much smarter than me who can answer those kinds of questions for you. Can you tell me if it's possible to interact with my PC desktop with my hand tracking on my headset other than the virtual keyboard? I'd love to put it in the five-hole if you will at the bottom as a tablet in portrait form and be able to tap stuff instead of using my Mouse

    • @WorkInVR

      That is super clever! Technically, you can enable your hand tracking or controller "raycasts" to essentially perform mouse clicks, but that is very clunky and does not work very well at all. Almost universally, people tend to keep that setting off so your hand tracking does not interact with your screens. Usually all interaction with your machine is through your keyboard and trackball/mouse. (BTW, sorry I was so late to reply - I only just now saw your comment!)

      First of all, you have to have the Immersed Agent software running on your computer: immersed.com/download Go to your Account page on the Immersed site to get your pairing code: immersed.com/account Make sure you enter that pairing code into the Agent software on your computer as well as the headset when prompted or on the Computers tab on the main menu in the app. The headset and your computer must be on the same WiFi network. The "Computers" tab on the main menu will show you if your computer is connected or not. If it is, you will see at least one screen. You can open the "Virtual Displays" menu item in the desktop agent app to turn on additional screens. If you've done all that and are still struggling to connect, you can contact Immersed support at: immersed.com/community There are support channels for Windows, Mac, and Linux. I have issues how to mouse over to other screens on the correct side. For example, lets say I create 2 screens on top of each other. I then want to be able to move the mouse to the bottom of the top screen and pop out on the top of the bottom screen. But seems Immersed forces me to put the screens in a certain position, because it switches screens if I move the mouse only to the left side of the screen and pops out on the other screen to the right. Is there a way to change this?

    • @WorkInVR
      @WorkInVR  7 месяцев назад

      Hi there - Yes, after you position your screens in Immersed, on Windows, right click on the desktop and select "Display Settings". Drag the displays to rearrange them to match your set up in Immersed (the "Identify" button can help). I'm not sure how that is done on Mac, but I believe there is some equivalent to that on Macs. That's a bit annoying, but definitely necessary. Whenever I drop into Immersed, I tweak my screen positioning, set "Display Settings" to match, then I'm off to the races. That usually takes me only about 30 seconds to do. Nice and easy!
