- This video was recorded for the Women Composers Festival of Hartford.
The piece is by Melika Fitzhugh (her channel is linked at the end of this video), and is part of a loosely associated suite that includes a short solo piece for every size from sopranino through contrabass.
Notes from the composer:
"The title is inspired by the last line from the poem “Kintsukuroi” by David Bowles, from his collection Shattering and Bricolage.
With care that glitters brighter
Than even the purest gold,
They join the misshapen bits together Leaving a webbing fretwork
Of shimmering seams
That forever remind us-
When wounds are healed by love, The scars are beautiful.
The entire poem can be found here: davidbowles.us..."
The instrument I am playing is a tenor recorder in satinwood by Yamaha.
