Hi I'm optometrist Martin Oguzie, this video is part two of three videos on basic dry eye (Keratoconjunctivitis sicca or KCS) tips. In this video I use, arguably the best and most thorough research work on dry eye disease (DED) to outline some of the options for Aqueous deficient and evaporative dry eye treatment. It is not meant to be an exhaustive list of every dry eye treatment. Instead, it is a systematic overview that highlights the different considerations for treating aqueous and evaporative dry eye treatment, which can be quite different. Effective dry eye treatment may depend on identifying the type of dry eye that you have and treating it appropriately.

Thanks for sharing Vatche. Do you use a night time lubricant eye drop before bed? If not, it's worth trying that. Also get someone to watch you while you are asleep to make sure that your eyelids are not partially open while you sleep, this is a problem that can go undetected and cause major overnight drying out of the eyes.

Hi, I just listened to all three of your videos. It was well explained put together nicely. There’s a few things that I wanted to ask you it mentioned a healthy diet. Is there a healthy diet such as a dry eye diet???? when you mention as the diet and mine would fall into the category of inflammation, I was just curious as far as supplements, Ables, fruits, in other words what are we talking about as far as a healthy diet?

To continue are there supplements that you can take for dry eye syndrome that have been proven to be successful or somewhat successful. How often would you use the warm compressors also the lid scrubbers would you be using that once or 11:23 twice a day? since you had mentioned a healthy diet again it’s such a thing as a dry eye diet? I think it’d be a good idea. If when you make these suggestions, you would say use the warm compresses two or three times a day. Use the cleansing wipes in the morning and probably before bed, just a little more instructions to follow. But I really enjoyed all three of the videos and I hope to get some answers to my questions that would be really appreciated Tricia and Hawaii.

Do you think scleral lenses might help with extreme dry eye? My eyes have barely any tear and it feels like someone is cutting my left eye every time i blink. I tried everything, even lipiflow and hand meibomian gland expression but i don't think i have MGD. What a shitty way to live thinking about dry eye 24/7.

Hi dear colleague, I myself developed extreme MGD as a result of exposure to systemic retinoids. I was ignorant with regards to the long-term complications of isotretinoin, and during my 4th year of medical school I took a short course of 20 mg a day for 6 weeks - that's all it took for me to lose over 50% of my glands. Apparently, dermatologists love this drug, and they constantly deny that this drug can commonly cause this condition. It would be great if an ophthalmologist would make a video debunking these claims so that potential patients can get informed about potential risks- because let me tell you, no dermatologist ever informs patients about this. Its a miserable condition, and literally nothing helps or offer relief - artificial tears are useless, lipiflow and ipl sessions do not provide improvement, nightly ointments, warm compresses etc, constant pain 24 7, it really reduced my quality of life and because of this condition, I had to give up on my dream residency, which was pathology.

Aqueous due to chronic allergy. Failed all allergy treatments. 30 years. Using lid cleaner, eye drops, heat mask, cold compresses... the only trouble is I think the allergy drop is not working as well. All tests normal, no autoimmune conditions. I eat no refined sugar or processed foods.

Yeah, this problem is not only about eyes..I’ve never had mental health issues, I have a great family, overall excellent health and everything else except my eyes is okay. But dry eyes brought suicidal thoughts into my life because I don’t know how to live with discomfort all the time and I don’t want to. I’ve just turned 18 btw, suffering for a year now. Sick and tired
