Thank you so much for watching ❤
//
I love how you don’t just repeat yourself over and over, you’re really specific and honest in your unpopular opinions and I really appreciate that, thank you 😊
Christy Ewen YES! I watch so many people that basically give the same speech about each book! She actually goes into so much specific detail.
I remember absolutely loving 13 Reasons Why... but I read it when I was like 14 so I feel like if I read it now at 22 I would definitely not like it as much as I did before!
I feel like I'd have the same opinion. I read it twice at 16. I don't think I'll have the same feelings about the book at 23 now that I've experienced, well, life.
100% true. It was one of my favorite books in middle school, I reread it again after watching the show and I was like “...how”
Yeah I remember reading the 13 reasons why book when it first came out & I was only 20 years old at the time! Yes because 13 Reasons Why I just can't understand it? And plus I re-read it until the end of the book?
Jay G thank you divergent was terrible oh my gosh
I feel like that about a lot of books that I read as a teenager. I think I just grew out of YA.
I really love your unpopular opinion videos! I like how honest you are
I agree! ^ It sets you apart from other booktubers. I know if I want to really know what a book is like I'd have to watch one of your videos on it.
I met the author of Ivory and Bone, and she said that the Pride and Prejudice aspect of the story was not as important as the marketing made it out to be. She didn't think of it as a P&P retelling; marketing exaggerated it. Just an interesting thing I thought I'd share.
Grace Gibson thanks for sharing! :)
In the middle of a final: oh Hannah posted a new video I’ll be right back teacher
OMG
Yesterday, I binge watched your videos and I was hoping you'd uploaded a new one soon and here it is! I absolutely LOVE when you make videos like these!!
Completely agree with you about 13 reasons! I felt like Hannah was far to angry about it, like she killed herself out of spite to see the others suffer as she did. I felt like clays opinions while listening really broke the flow of the story, like interruptions from emotional parts. At times it literally felt like this:
_I was waiting at the top of the rocket slide_
"Oh my god I never knew,"
_-and then,_
"Oh my god,"
_-Justin came_
"Why am I on here?"
_-He said,_
"Why would she do this?"
_I will catch yo-_
"Hannah I'm so sorry"
LIKE BITCH LET HER SPEAK!
I just LIVE for these worst books of the year videos, I love them so much. I'm very keen to read An Enchantment of Ravens, I'm seeing a lot of conflicting opinions about this book although both sides do have the same opinion that the book is too short. I can't decide if I will like it or not, I'm Fae trash, but....I feel like I'm going to be pretty torn from what I've seen. It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds!
Loved this video!
TheBookLife I was excited to read it and wasn't too bad. It kept my interest but it reminded me waaay to much on a court of thorns and roses by Sarah j maas. I give it maybe a 3 out of 5.
I actually really liked that book. It was a quick read and I do wish that it was longer, but I'm very glad that I read it.
Aw, no! I loved Divergent! One of my favs... Once I read the full trilogy, I actually felt that one of the main themes was grief and coping with grief. Though, of course, feeling like there is something wrong because society tells you so does get fleshed out quite a bit more in the trilogy...
I like your analysis of the Thirteen Reason Why Book and TV Show. I taught this book to my GT Class and I could sympathize with Hannah. Suicide is a difficult topic and I'm glad it's starting conversations. I just wish the author would talk about to mental health resources that are available. I've been in Hannah's shoes and I got the help I needed. Love your videos.
I have an idea for this segment for Booktubers called Fandom Fridays where you discuss a different fandom each Friday, share your favorite artwork, fic, merch etc. and just share your opinions on different books, popular or non popular.
Honestly that sounds like so much fun! I'd love to see this idea flourish.
That sounds so cool! Could I use this idea if I become a booktuber one day? (Not sure that'll ever happen, soo 😂)
Scarlet Moon absolutely! You should go for it!

I HOPE YOU DO WELL
A Clockwork Reader thanks so much I think I might do well lol
I reread Divergent recently as well, and it feels like it came straight from Wattpad
Preach
thats an insult to wattpad stories dude
There are some really good wattpad books though.

Not all Wattpad books are trash
Your videos are so therapeutic, the way you articulate yourself and your voice just make watching your videos so much better
YES 13 REASONS WHY = 🗑
dylanthereader5 is the most overrated thing ever.
dylanthereader5 totally
I agree
Favorite serie and book lol
An Enchantment Of Ravens was a bust for me too. When we were in the Spring court I was SO EXCITED because we were finally getting somewhere and it all seemed so interesting! But we barely got any substance in any part of the book. It had so much potential and I was excited for the direction of the plot so many times but every time it fell short. If it had been 500+ pages it could have been amazing. But it was just.... nothing.
I love rant reviews, they are so much more fun than all the praise and happy mushy mushy joy joy :D
You are so pretty❤️
I've heard a lot of mixed things on An Enchantment of Ravens! I love that you have unpopular opinions! It's good to have different opinions to what everyone else has I think!
Do a full review on thirteen reasons why! ❤️
I'm newer to watching booktube and have just fallen in love with your channel. Thanks for your videos!!
I actually liked Enchantment O R. But it could be that I read tons of dark and disturbing novels like "The dumb House" Before that and I need something extremely light hearted and a bit of a palette cleanser read, and thats pretty much what it was. :-P
I love how specific you are and how you explain why you didn’t like the books, love your channel!
Why do booktubers always give disclaimers that they're not giving a disclaimer?
Nicole Roach because people get offended when someone has a different opinion.
And also people get pissed when the booktubers give a disclaimer.
Because a lot of people in the booktube community are oversensitive teenaged girls
I'm not going to try to convince you to change you mind about a book =)
but I don't understand the hate An Enchantment of Ravens is getting. No it wasn't great or perfect. But I did quite like it, maybe simply because I knew this was the first book this author had written. And while, it didn't hit all the notes esp by being so short, I appreciated the imagination behind it all. I try, really try, not to let myself get hyped up about any book from an unknown author. that's just asking for trouble.
I do hope the author grows and learns from this and just keeps getting better because I really liked the world. I liked the ideas of towns that are not in fairy but are controlled by one type of court so the season is a mirror of that court. I really loved the type of fay we were dealing with. Its very classic old school idea of fay and that was a delight. I'm not a fan of the supermodel perfection of some of the fay in modern stories. This way they felt almost elemental. Yep, the romance was not handled well. It did try, by giving her some internal confliction about it. But because we didn't see the development of the crush from the start, it was not enough. I did like that she called herself out on how crazy it was. So, a nod in the right direction. Anyway, just some of my thoughts.
I read 13 Reasons Why this year and I felt really conflicted and I wasn't sure how I should feel about it. However I realized while watching your video that I could relate to your thoughts on it. There's a good intentation behind it but instead it adresses the topic of suicide on a very superficial way and Hannah's motivations for recording those tapes are very difficult to understand despite everything she went through.
You're literally my favourite youtuber, I have like over 50 books on my to buy list because of your videos and you make them sound so exciting
You're posting so many videos this month!! My heart is happy 💖
I think a lot of people forget that 13RW came out in 2007, put that into context. Mental illness was much more taboo in YA than it is now. Don't get me wrong the book (and show) has its problems but I think as someone who suffers from mental illness we need to put things into context. Loved the vid xx
well I finally read Throne Of Glass this year (yeah I know I’m kinda late 😂😂😂) and I really disliked it. The story was really really good, but then how Sarah wrote it was really annoying and there wasn’t any plot twist, I knew everything at the beginning of first book, I’ve also read second book of this series and I decided not to read the rest of them. And I have similar thoughts about 13RW. Didn’t enjoyed it this much, also I don’t know why there’s such a hype for it.
Brennan sometimes i find that if a book has too much hype it ruins a book i would have liked
Laura laura that’s actually true
My friend begged and begged and begged me to read The Throne of Glass series and I ended up hating it
happy birthday hannah !!
i hope you not only have a beautiful day but a beautiful life.
waiting for your birthday/christmas haul!
I read "Isla and the Happily Ever After" by Stephanie Perkins this year...hated it. It was really sweet and cute in the beginning, but after the halfway point, I stopped caring. I think Isla and Josh moved too fast in their relationship, and Isla was really annoying.
I love the way you articulate yourself, didn’t agree with anything you said but you explained it and I really appreciate that.
Love these types of videos!
I wonder what I would think of Divergent (or any book really) if I reread it, hmmm. The Divergent series for sure good worse as it went on! I never read 13 Reasons Why but I did watch the TV show.
Thank you! You are literally the first person, who shares my opinion about 13 reasons why! You said what I've been saying for almost seven years now, since I first read it. The only difference is that I read the book first, and since the show is even worse, I couldn't get passed the first episode.
I am so thankful to you for making videos on books. I recently came across with your channel and am so impressed ❤️ keep going
M in love with ur videos hannah.... nd specially d books u don't lyk d way u rant abt those books .... being so honest .... i love it more . gud going... waiting for more of ur videos
I just discovered your channel by accident and really enjoy your commentary and break down of each of the books. As one who's interested in joining the BookTube community, I was curious if you scripted your videos - I understand that this can be one of the easiest ways to ensure smooth transitions and lack of vocal errors, but was curious nonetheless. I've been perusing your channel and have loved the content so far. Please please please continue to do what you're doing, and I'm excited to see how your documentary develops as the year goes on and when it is uploaded to RUclips.
I agree with your choice
Loving the new bookshelfs!! So beautiful!
Thank you! :D
I agree with you except for An Enchantment of Ravens. I thought it was beautifully written and you can tell that the author is an artist, I believe she’s a painter just like Isobel.
I really liked your thoughts on divergent I always love hearing in-depth discussions like that :)
13 Reasons Why provided me with so much comfort in high school. It made me feel less alone in my struggles with mental health since I didn’t even have a name for it back then. That is why I loved it so much back then. Looking it at now more critically, I’m still glad I had that book back then, but it leaves much to be desired. Clay’s idolizes Hannah instead of seeing her for who she is, a girl that is suffering and needs professional help. He also is the one the perpetuates the blame on to the other characters and enforces the idea that it is a revenge suicide. The parts from Hannah’s POV are much better. My heart always reaches out to her when I read them. As an adult now, I get most annoyed with the fact that the school has someone that is not qualified as a counselor. That is just unacceptable and could discourage children from seeking an adult to confide in because the book paints adults as oblivious.
I really enjoyed this video, though I have to say Divergent is one if my favorite book series but I can honestly see where you are coming from which makes me wonder what books like that you recommend? But I love how you went into wonderful detail but not enough to give away everything in the book. And I really appreciate that!
This is the first one of your videos I've ever watched, I really like your honesty and voice! You just got a new subscriber.
I actually sat open mouthed when you mentioned 13 Reasons Why - one of my favourite books ever! Though I do understand where you’re coming from :) I love this video though, especially the detail with Divergent!
I didn’t like An Enchantment of Ravens either! I was so disappointed because it sounded so great.
Also your voice is so calming! You should narrate meditations lol
im obsessed with you and i love whenever you talk about divergent because no one else in the world seems to agree with me here
This is totally unrelated to the video but I know you like Hamilton and you should listen to Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet Of 1812. It’s based off a section of war and peace and it’s really good😁
I really want to listen to it!
YESSSS I LOVE THAT MUSICAL SO MUCH PLEASE LISTEN, YOU'LL LOVE IT TOO
Your commentary is so spot on I'm shook! Glad you only read 4 bad books in 2017 though 😉
Hi Hannah! Could you do a video explaining what your YA class or other college classes you have taken were like? Living in a different country, I'd really like to hear about that!
Ayyy I hear you! Haha seriously though, it can’t just be me. Your sound quality has improved immensely.👌🏼
FINALLY! I can't stand Divergent! I always explain it to people and get a lot of backlash for it. Thank you for making these videos!
YES! I hated Divergent! I was so painfully bored with it!
I was wondering if you could maybe do a video about your favourite second person books because I was thinking of reading some but I have no idea what's out there also ily you're amazing 💕💕
I love your unpopular opinion videos!
The three worst books I read this year:
- Three Dark Crowns
- The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower)
- Caraval
And a few books that are not translated into english yet.
I also didn't like the Court Of Mist And Fury-Series, Clockwork Princess and Percy Jackson (I listened to this on Audio)... This year was quite a bad reading year, I hope 2018 will be a lot better!
Kristina Ma ..... you must be a very particular reader
Why? There are also a lot of books I loved this year. But I guess the mentioned books were the worst, because I had very high expectations and they just didn't live up to that. I found them to be extremely disappointing.
I am not alone with Caraval!
Kristina Ma I just finished A Clockwork Angel and hated it. I’m not going to continue the series.
Tbh i was not a fan of the first ACOTAR book, but I felt the 2nd book fixed a lot of the issues I had with it. I'm just curious to know why you didn't like the other two books in the trilogy?
Hannah, your video was awesome and I completely agree with what you said about both Divergent and Thirteen Reasons Why!!! Also, I love your shirt!!
I read enchantment of ravens, and when it ended I was kind of like “that’s it?” She could have done so much more with the book but didn’t. The idea was there and then it flopped.
Hey, I'm new here, so I don't know if you've already read it, but have you ever thought about reading Wonder by R. J. Palatio? From your 2018 bookshelf tour I didn't see it and since I loved that book I wanted to recommend it to you.
Sorry for any grammar mistakes, but I'm Italian, and I'm not that good in English.
New to your channel and loving it! Your voice is so calming for some reason. Thanks for the specifics on why you didn’t like the books instead of just “this book is shit.”
You're such a fantastic person, wow.
And the way you discuss books is so on-point. :)
Fully agree on 13 Reasons Why, I think you phrased your thoughts on that very well.
I really value your opinions, even if they appear to be unpopular. I love the honesty and how concise you are with your thoughts. I don't plan and didn't plan on touching 13 Reasons Why. One of my friends lost her husband to suicide and she said it gave her flashbacks of PTSD so to me that tells me enough to stay away from it. I am sad to hear that the book doesn't deal with mental illness. In this day and age, that is very disappointing to hear about because we need to be able to talk about these things. Also I appreciated what you said about An Enchantment of Ravens. I can't stand books that expect you to believe something without providing any evidence to support their claim, i.e. a romance.
I LOVE YOU AND YOUR VIDS SO MUCH! THEY INSPIRE ME!❤️❤️
EOR was such a wet blanket, it was such a cover buy for me.
On a slightly different note do you remember what lipstick you were wearing in this vid, because it is gorgeous!!!!
Have you ever read The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen by Syrie James? It's a fictional autobiography that chronicles her epic love story that Austen ultimately based her novels when she revised her books in the story.
I expected a lot form An Enchantment of Ravens! She is a painter! Where is that part in her. The fae's in the book are so bland and unappealing.
Gelo Sugui yes and yes!!!
I actually loved An Enchantment of Ravens! I see such mixed reviews on it. Everyone either loved it or hated it. The only book I truly disliked this year was Jane, Unlimited. I DNF'ed it because it dragged so much.
i agree with you!! an enchantment of ravens was insta-lovey and it lacked so much plot development... and the ending was so unsatisfying for me? it felt like we weren't at risk of losing anything and there just wasn't enough tension for it to be emotional. there were also lines thrown in there that made me think they were foreshadowing or revealing a characters' hidden feelings about a certain topic... (hemlock) but there was so little development and they were completely forgotten later in the story. the writing was very beautiful though and i found the world interesting but imo it just didn't reach its full potential
I don’t usually comment on videos but I just wanted to say I hope you have younger viewers because I think your perspective is really important. I wish when I was still really interested in YA I had someone like you to make me realize how what I was reading influenced what I thought and felt. You do a great job of explaining why something is problematic and I just wanted to say thanks for being you.
Also as someone who also deals with anxiety, thank you for talking about that when you do ☺️
I agree with your opinion on 13 Reasons Why. As someone who survived multiple suicide attempts in my teen years, I was extremely frustrated and angry by the trend of books focusing on self-harm and suicide. Like you said, most of them did very little to address mental illness. In my school, at least, the books seemed to almost glamorize self-harm, suggesting that it would make you really hardcore and your feelings so much more valid. I can understand that authors wanted to open up a dialogue, but the attempts felt clumsy.
I just discovered you! Been trying to find some youtubers that dedicate their channels to just books because I love, love, love to read! Also love the name “A clockwork reader” I’m guessing that’s a reference to the book A Clockwork Orange, which I actually read not too long ago and absolutely loved. One popular book that I read and didn’t like was Paper towns by John Green. It was just awful. I didn’t like how Quinton was so obsessed with Margo and I could go on a huge rant lol, but that’s all I’ll say. I actually really love John Green but he really disappointed me with Paper Towns.
I love your videos,I love this😭💖
I really like your videos!!!
Are you gonna do a Christmas Book Haul?
These are my favorite videos!!!! Love this❤️
This is kind of random, but I am loving your thumbnails!❤️
I'm so glad there's someone else who didn't enjoy an enchantment of ravens. I feel really confused as to how sooo many people can say they love it but if you look at the goodreads reviews, they're not great either. The only part of the story i enjoyed was the lyrical writing, but everything else was very disappointing, and it was one of my most anticipated reads fro 2017 too
I also read Divergent when I was young, I saw the movie, and I loved it so much. Now, I agree with you- its bad. I hated Trish from the beggining. I liked the idea of the fractions, but I didn’t get the divergent part. It still has a special place in my heart, because I was like 9-10 years old when I read it (yes i am super young i know) and it was the first dystopia I read. I have a classmate that reads books like 13 reasons why, and so I borrowed it, and then I cringed. I hate teen novels, so that explains my opinions.
I stopped reading books and started reading manga, and honestly i dont regret it.
I loved Enchantment of Ravens but completely understand your points! I could definitely have been longer at least. I love your unpopular opinions videos, thanks for continuing to post and be honest :)
1. Love you
2. I agree when it comes to 13 reasons why
3. Congrats on moving your bookshelves and correct me if I'm wrong, but did u buy new bookshelves? If so, congrats on that too, buying new bookshelves and filling them up with books it just so fun and rewarding to me
Malak Elkady Yes! I bought 2 new shelves!
A Clockwork Reader WELL CONGRATULATIONS
P.S: I love/adore/worship you
I'd have to reread Divergent, but I can totally see those reasons for hating the book. And I also hated 13 Reasons Why as a book. So much so that I didn't even want to give the series a chance. Love hearing your thoughts!
Love your honesty. An Enchantment of Ravens is on my TBR and although I'll still read it eventually, I will be doing so....suspiciously.
I've tried reading Divergent several times now and I think I should just accept the fact that it's not for me. I quite enjoyed the first movie but I couldn't get through the second and at this point, have lost all interest in the story.
I read 13 Reasons Why back when it first came out and I think I remember enjoying it at the time but again, I liked everything I read back then, sweet innocent child that I was XD
Never heard of Ivory and Bone, probably a good thing I haven't haha.
I was so offended to find out you hated Divergent as it's one of my all time favourite books, but listening to you saying why it was bad, I totally agree with you. But I think that's one of the reasons I also LOVED the book, because I first read it when I was 13.
I’m scared!!! We’re reading Ivory and bone for Bookclub.
Oh my god about divergent: you summed it all. I couldn't describe the problems with it. You're awesome
After hearing you talk about '13 Reasons Why' I would love to know your take on 'Sad Girls' By Lang Leav. It was absolutely the worst book I read this year and one of the worst books I have ever read, but I never see anyone talk about it....
I found this extremely helpful especially considering I was eventually going to try divergent! Thank you!
I quite enjoy Divergent but the other two books not so much. 😂
But I really love the aspects you discus in this video. It’s so interesting!
Oh boy. How could I have forgotten about 13 Reasons Why before filming my Worst Books video? That was one of the worst books I read this year too. I totally agree that it is portrayed as a revenge suicide. And YES to the author not even acknowledging mental illness at all! Mental illness absolutely contributes to suicide, and probably more than bullying does!
I love what you said about Tris: that she does feel like she is a self insert! I haven't thought about that. I enjoyed divergent a lot. I re-read it and still do. Yet I do agree with your opinion on Tris.
I totally agree with the lack of mental health discussion in 13 Reasons Why. The overall message is that bullying is bad and can really affect young people...yet, for some terrible reason the author chose to use suicide as a guilty tool to convey this message. In reality, mental illness almost always accompanies suicide. I also felt terrible for Clay the whole time because he's a really decent guy who has made mistakes and (like most teenagers) was too afraid to tell Hannah he liked her. Of course, Hannah blames him as the ultimate reason she took her life and leaves him scarred and broken. It's really frustrating and, to me, shouldn't have been written.
I love how honest you feel! And that you too always saw how annoying Divergent was :D I really hated the series and saw the flop the movies would eventually become from a hundred miles away.
Always love these videos!
I was really disappointed by An Enchantment of Ravens too. I bought it because the cover was so beautiful, but it just fell so flat in so many ways - and was SO SHORT. There were bits I liked, but overall it was just so...meh. The plot and the characters just didn't work as well as they should have.
You should totally do a full review of 13 Reasons Why! I mean, if you want to. I would find that really interesting.
I remember reading the Divergent books in 2012 in one go and absolutely disliking them. The premise pulled me in initially, but I had to force myself to finish them. I'm so glad you talked about it because I thought I was in the minority.
i dont even read that many books but i stopped reading 13 reasons why half way throughout because of the exact reasons you just stated in the video. Great vid!
Mine are: Before I Fall, The Diabolic, Under Rose Tainted Skies, and ALL of the Sarah Dessen books I read.
The way you described the writing in Ivory and Bone is exactly the way I feel about the writing style for Shatter Me. I feel like most of the strikethroughs are totally pointless and just there to make the series stand out from others.
If you like historical/prehistorical fiction I highly recommend The Earths Children series. The first one is called The Clan Of The Cave Bear. Highly recommend!!!
