Kodi, looks like you have a fine bunch of engines, I look forward to the videos on these engines. It’s really something I enjoy watching, you are an awesome detailed mechanic/engineer. Thanks Kodi
I have a 30 Johnson 1997 that looks exactly like the one at 6:01 min.into your video. Have you worked on it yet, what was wrong with it? When I resealed the lower unit on mine, I was lucky that the clutch dog didn't come apart from the 2 detent balls & springs, they stayed in place during removal & disassembly. From a how-to video by Omfishing, it would seem to be rare that the clutch dog stays in place, and if it doesn't it is always a bear of a job to get back over the detent balls & springs?
+Kiggsia, I have not worked on that jonny 30 yet, I took it in on trade, Fellow I got it from said it runs well but the prop hub is spun?? I plane on getting to her soon, Yep I agree on the dawg & balls , they can be a real pain. kodi
@@kodibassInsideoutboards I can't help but wonder if "the prop hub is spun" means that the rubber shock mount bushing has been slipping so much that now the rubber is worn and the metal bushing that the splined shaft fits into is slipping on the inside of the rubber bushing. I had thought that bushing is a sort of a clutch to replace a shear pin, but if so, they don't seem to hold up too well after a few slippages like an actual slip clutch would?
if i provide you with my model and serial of my merc 2 stroke 2.5 can you tell me were it was made and what year i got one that is mint its all perfect
Please put a video how to repair the prop that spins by finger but wont spin nor go into gear when running on a Mercury 3.3 portable. In other words how to replace repair sin hub/ shear pin. I have just starting boating. It will be used for my 24ft sailboat.
What is the anti seize grease Icalled i used to use copaslip on motorcycles but avoid on outboards use anti seize zinc grease is that correct also use the red sticky tacky grease on exposed threads like clamp ?
Kodibass, I’ve been working on my 3.3 and it is working good. The only thing is that when I put it on the canoe the back part of it is aiming downward and it turns off. When it is straight like you show on your video it runs perfect and doesn’t turn off. You got any ideas?
+Nicolas Garcia-Abarca , Sounds like you are tilting it far enough downward that fuel is not flowing from the tank to the carburetor bowl, The hose from the tank to the carburetor has to remain level with or higher than the carburetor or fuel will not reach the bowl. kodi
+eric jensen, not rope parts, rope particles , What you saw in the video was the after I air blew the motor with a air hose @125 psi, the on-board fuel tank has a vent on top small fine particles of dirt, frayed cord dust etc. can very easily get sucked into the fuel in the tank once the vent is opened to the run position, also the dust was sucked in thru the air silencer & straight into the carb throat from there via vents, orifice's & tiny carb body passages, to name a few, The amount of frayed cord dust that collected under the motors cowling was substantial. some of it is so fine it gets in everything everywhere. & run long enough in this condition it will find its way to the bowl, on-board tank & gravity almost assure so. kodi
I have one of these it starts up real quick, once you turn it off once you can’t get it back on. Do you have any idea what this might be? Someone told me my piston might be scarred, have any of you ever had to deal with such a situation?
+Nicolas Garcia-Abarca, If you have piston/ring issues it can be figured out by doing a compression test, After it gets up to temp & does not want to start do a spark check & make sure you still have spark. If you have good strong spark & compression is good move onto fuel delivery as the most likely issue. kodi
+Nicolas Garcia Abarca, Some auto parts stores will loan you a compression tester, Or try a local auto repair shop. its a simple process they would most likely do it free or very cheap. The pistons inside your motor has 2 rings that go all the way around the top of the piston, This is what gives the compression inside the cylinders as the pistons travel up & down. kodi
Those little motors are very tough I have Tohatsu 2.5 direct drive and 3.5 F and N virtually same as suzuki 2hp direct drive 2 stroke..tough as old boots..
There is nothing wrong with using the copper antiseize on outboards or in aluminum. From what I understand it handles high heat better than the silver (nickel) stuff. The mfg says it’s fine, and many other say it’s fine.
+TheStephenspann27, I have seen first hand what it does, NO copper anti-seize on my outboards ever, The mfg of Drain-O says it won't hurt your pipes & un-clogs sinks. kodi
@@kodibassInsideoutboards What is it about the copper stuff that causes problems? The silver stuff is nickle. Both nickle and copper are conductive, dissimilar.
+TheStephenspann27, . Aluminum will be very susceptible to galvanic corrosion in contact with copper, assuming that the two metals are also in contact with a common electrolyte (such as water with some ionic content.) (SALT) Almost any text or handbook on corrosion will have galvanic series table. The farther two metals or alloys are separated on the table, faster the corrosion of the less noble of the two will be when they are in contact I.e Aluminum With one less positive is always anode noble in contact with copper. so re-read the first sentence .. Pull chord I found putting bees wax ( snow seal) on the chord then apply heat to drive wax into the chord. Afterwards the chord is so soft and not catchy
Great video ,I agree that this motor was abused .If it had not quite running ,you probably would not be serviced. Sad how people treat there motors, cars ,lawn mowers. The less they cost the more abuse.
+Chris's small engines, So true & then throw in the salt water & it really gets bad fast. Just the very basic care sometimes is all that"s needed a bit of soap & water a little grease , a spray of corrosion lube a quick wipe & your done, motor is happy & ready when you need it. kodi

Think he is worried about dissimilar metals causing problems. Perhaps the copper stuff is encapsulated in substance that prevents that
