I’ve watch many ‘How to” videos. This is by far the best video I’ve seen. Everything plus time stamps, part numbers and tools. Please keep making videos for the 80. Thank you. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Complete clear explanations with problems to avoid, clear photography, clear sound and listed tools including grease specs and torque specs. This is the best birfield service video on the internet ever in the history of the universe. I usually do not comment, but this should have 100,000 views minimum by now.

Excellent video. I changed my swivel bearings on my fj45 81 L/ Cruiser 20 years ago just following my w/shop manual for the first time. It was going to cost me an arm & a leg so I had a go myself. It took me 8 - 9 hours but I was very proud of myself. Watching your video made it look so easy I learnt a lot in such a short time. Keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing. Good luck.

Thanks so much for your help. Tackled this job on my FJ60 and while there were obviously differences, this was a massive help all the way through, including parts, consumables and techniques. Can honestly say now though, that this is one job that has been added to the “never again” list. Took waaaaaay longer than expected, and was a complete pain to do 😂 would much rather pay someone to do it in the future if I ever need it done again haha

I have used your handy video to do my swivel hubs this weekend. My spindles had needle bearings and half brass bush. Couldn't get the bearing out, a mate showd me to weld the inside of the race, it shrunk the cage and we were able to remove it easily once it cooled down. Thought I'd share as you had some very handy tips yourself. Cheers again👍👍

Exellent video! No mucking around.I knew it was quite a job, so had a professional do it for me, but now i feel I can do the job if I had too. It’s really good you point out the less obvious pitfalls. I hate seeing guys doing this sort of thing when they really don’t know how. These 80 series should just keep on going if maintained properly like this, thanks a bunch.

Thanks for your great video. This video is also useful for the FJ60. My wipers (time 11:40) are in rough shape with a lot of gunk on the back side of the knuckle. I have a similar tie rod puller (time 13:00) and it can slightly damage the threads so I put the castle nut back on upside down to protect it. I ended up using the puller plus a giant brass drift in concert.

Good point here for anyone else reading this. I damaged the relay rod ends using that puller, and the nut will no longer fit the thread. Luckily this was a part I was going to replace anyway, but great advice on the castle nut + drift!

Unfortunately I experienced that after having new tyres fitted to my 80... next time I went to take a particular wheel off multiple studs sheared due to having been stretched to yield by the overtightening. I note that you do not initially lubricate the wiper seal. Also worth mentioning - if you do not put enough grease in the CV joint and its cavity, what can happen is that the centrifugal force will ensure the CV joint ends up running dry of lubricant. This happened to my 80 series and the CV joints had to be replaced. Interesting that you can also put in too much.

this video was a huge help to rebuild mine on my 79. I ended up taking it a step further and putting a lokka in the front diff!
Mine were so bad they were full of mud, and the bearings (both wheel and swivel) were so worn that the bearings had started wearing into the ball. Unfortunately I found both of my cvs were no good :/

Just did my '94 thanks to this video - I must say, how you kept your arms and legs so clean must be CGI or something as I was covered in filth while wearing coveralls. Took much longer than expected, but for a first time I guess that's not unusual. Thanks again.

Teck tip for the bearing races, place them in a container & place in the freezer, deep freeze if you have, overnight.
Remove one by one immediately prior to fitting them, this shrinks the race a little alowing an easyer installation

Hey fellas, just revisiting this comment, I have just changed out my axles and cv joints, but I'm finding even with a puller bolt the axle will not protrude far enough out to get the circlip back on. It's doing head in arrrrgh 😂. Swivel hits and bearings were heaps quicker this time round though. If you have any idea how to get the axle spline out that little bit more can you let me know. Cheers
