  • Willys jeep custom rock sliders!
    In this video I fabricate some rock sliders for the Willy’s CJ3B. This method is cost effective and provides a lot of protection for your old jeep. This should work on cj2a, cj3a, and CJ3B’s. Links to items used down below.

    Those are really nice. If you want to add some strength, bend a piece of 1/8"x1" bar stock to match the inside of the tub wall to form a backing plate. Then drill the holes to match, and weld on the nuts to be captive. Then if you high center on your slider, the weight load will get distributed across three or four bolt holes on the tub and not just wallow out the one it's closest to.

    Nice work, looks great. If you have the time make a caping plate for the front side, drill 2 holes and weld 2 nuts on the inside, then weld it on the step so you can add 2 holes/bolts thru the fender and into the step.
    I have a similar steel top table at my workshop and it also had holes in them like yours and I just welded/closed them with 3mm sheet metal so that my tools don't fall thru 🙂
    Best of luck from Slovenia

      @SevenBarSalvage  2 года назад +1

      That’s a great idea! I actually did cap the end I never bolted it to the fender though. Thank you for watching!

    • @sash328
      @sash328 2 года назад +1

      Yeah, the good side of that is that fender and the step is more solid that way, the bad side is that if you bend the step you also bend the fender as they are connected. In motocross they use zip ties that just brake of and not let the part be damaged. It's hard to know what's best 🙂

    That an interesting way of making body panels by tacking and hacking instead of cutting cardboard to make templates. Never seen that done before. I have a 1960 Jeep and enjoy watching your progress...keep up the great work!

    I had a willys jeep that was rusted out I cut a 81 Toyota 4x4 truck frame down and put the body of the willys on it and replaced most of the rusted body with some diamond plate made it looks original as possible it was a off road tank I solid it to my brother 10 years ago he put it in a shipping container in his back yard and it hasn't moved it was a fun toy we built a rock rails off the frame

    Video is great! Ignore the hateful comments. Sadly, there are people out there who think they make themselves look better by criticizing other people. Usually this is a sign of their own insecurity and unhappiness with themselves. Sadly, there are also just hateful people out there who, for all its virtues, social media gives a platform. They are just trolling, looking for anything to say something critical and hateful about. Keep up the great work and continue being yourself!

    Those turned out fantastic! I like the larger step too. More surface area for storage if needed. I did notice that your slider covered your water drain that's typically in the body though. I think in your case it was a giant rust hole 😂

    The rock slider is a slide piece of its angle 40 degree. From the yoke of the sheet metal in place on horizontal bench. The Y letter is bold meaning it is wide line and there is 3 lines per letter, "Y". The width of the line is 2 inch and bottom line is below the two lines. Width of bottom line is 6 inch. the distance of air gap between two top lines is 4 inch or 3.6 in. The length of the of top line is 16 in. over all the length is a total of 20 inch long. The top 2 lines is connect to the bottom of the floor's underside where the Jeep seats and bolted atop the Jeep floor. the bottom line of the Letter Y is containing bolts and tight them to the differential rear end pumpkin cast. Another word of the pumpkin is center section of the live axles housing. That bulbous iron pumpkin is the cast with inside are set of pinion gear, ring gear and planetary gears, its carrier named differential parts includes pins and C-clips. After tight them it have several holes small enough for hex head bolt thru it to the casting of Diff.
    Right the Letter Y slider already is drill thru hole and hole for depth of chamfer hex head like a wood screw with fine thread 20 teeth per inch. Wood screw head is round not hex. Hex is 5 grade or 10.9 metric strength no taller head than 3.5mm and drill the countersink whetstone against sheet metal which is the slider's Y letter made to be 5.5mm gauge thickness to 5mm tolerance.
    Then that is what a real rock slider ought to look like includes the floor with more steel ply unit - weld around sheet atop sheet metal floor to a minimal 4mm gauge of both ply of metal that way it supports the Y-letter torque bar/plate. The driveshaft goes thru between the two top lines.
    What is the measuring the ground clearance that Jeep is? It is my best guess: Yours is 17 inch ground clearance along with ground clearance below either diff. is 14 inch meaning your tire is 32 inch or 30 in. tall. It should be 40 inch tire x 225mm width as the snow tire needs studs for? The studdable tires is good and recommendation. The grip of tire versus the snow that's in the way. The tall studded tire is expensive. The problem goes away only by having it to at least 30 inch ground clearance below the front bumper called bow curve up to the hood's top horizontal line Like a boat's bow. That is the easiest way to travel over the thick snow especially 4 foot heavy snow fall record that beat in the last 40 to 75 years of snowing record in Virginia and Pennsylvania.
    The ground clearance is very tall; verily more likely to overcome the anywhere snow new path for jeep like yours rather than think the tire slipping sliding. Yes, taller tire is good and it is why snow tire is the tallest is the real reason why it is so good because tire didn't slide and slip. It was that snow land make your car to fall down to the ground and road and trail. Then the snow is pushes your front side bumper at same time the front bumper pushed the opposite direction. The snow won the push force a lot of time.
