We were practicing Opiate (song) in my buddy's practice room. His very religious parents asked "Do you boys really believe in what you're playing?" "Jesus Christ why don't you come save my life now...." ....they for sure never listened to the bridge. Awesome for people to still be discovering Opiate in 2021 :D. Opiate / Undertow = Genesis .... Aenima was diff, but great....Tool had a huge influence on me. Later albums were growth. #fibonacci

I remember making a DVD that had this video on it, along with other greats (with our own dope menus), while we were living out of our cars in L.A. ...because it's just what you do when you're 18 years old and responsibility, rational thought, planning, and rules don't apply to you. Anyway, we had a lot of great DVDs and CDs (obviously) like this, and I still haven't gotten tired of any them. But nothing has ever, or will ever beat Tool, for me. I genuinely believe my brain wouldn't allow me to fill that spot, even if a miracle happened and a band even came close to making me question myself. Come to think of never forgetting the great soundtrack I grew up to, I first heard Tool ('Sober' on MTV) when I was an actual child, and I never forgot that experience either. Our travel was in early February 2007, so quite soon after 10,000 Days came out, and there were a LOT of great albums coming out around those couple of years. Still, Tool is the best. And I've never had a favorite anything before. Not even close. And this has been my favorite thing for more than half my life.
THIS is the song and album that started my TOOL journey. I actually was introduced to this by a friend I had before Sober hit Mtv and everyone went nuts (Including me. I went nuts for Sober and Undertow). I was BLOWN AWAY by Opiate and wished it had more songs on it. I 1st saw TOOL live in summer of '93 lollapalooza and it was in the middle of the afternoon, hot sun beating down, no stage show of any kind and they killed it! I remember this dude in front of me was blasted out of his mind on something and instead of facing the stage he was looking at me and the rest of the crowd. Playing air guitar and swaying around close to falling over and passing out. I remember thinking "This dude is missing a new band that is amazing. He won't remember this at all." Later that day I saw him passed out near the port O' Johns while Fishbone was playing lol
I' ll always be thankful to may friends sister " Hey man, do you whant to get to know my sister?, then listen to one of her cassetes" the cassete was TooL's opiate. Never hooked up with her. But never forgot about her, nor the cassete that changed my life.
