  • In this weeks episode of Tech-Tip Tuesday I demonstrate the need for good screw drivers and then talk about the three overlooked places your bass clarinet really needs to seal to play right. Two of these repairs are simple and can be done in the classroom or studio and I’ll show you how.
The screw drivers I talk about today have swivel heads and the two sizes I recommend you buy are the 2.5X80mm and the 3X150mm drivers. One each. These can be found at many high quality tool suppliers.
The neck tenon on your bass clarinet should be repaired by your local repair tech while the tightening of the center joint and the waxing of the bell tenon should be done easily by you. I use the cheapest paraffin wax - found at any grocery store - and a bit of cork grease for the bell tenon. As for the center joint, in today’s example I used an Allen wrench (or hex key wrench) found at any hardware store but many instruments will have a phillips or flat head screw here. All of these tools are already at your school in the wood or auto shop…just go ask to barrow them for a moment.
