Wow.. no matter how much they have tried to upgrade that area.. it’s shameful and so disappointing on how it’s not being appreciated..I’m so familiar with the 3rd Ave Hub area for I lived in the Bronx and shopped there throughout the 60s-90.s .. The homeless, addiction, criminal activity! Third World!
I used to work at studio49 it was 3 stores south of the subway entrance next to the bootleg tape guy..it was a mens clothing store in the late 80s and 90s....before the changes...when the methadone addiction would sell the paper transfers from the subway to bus for .50 cents...I think the city built that park with intention of keeping the addicts in one concentrated area..with cameras everywhere. I have great pictures from back then ..Great memories
Because pumping money into a deprived ghetto just to put up a bunch of corporate bullshit doesn't help the community or deal with any of it's problems. Drug addiction, mental health crisis and all the broken traumatized people chewed up and spit out by this meat grinder of a system are just left to die in the streets using drugs to cope. I was homeless, was addicted to drugs. I grew up not far over on 168th and Findlay.
So do I. I was born and raised there while the old third Ave line was still up ready to be torn down, fare was $.75, tissue paper transfers, wire pull ding dings on the bus, no geometrical nonsense marking the streets, no seat belt laws, loosies were $.10 each and on top of that a pack was $1.49. We also had coupon booklets instead of the card. And where that Popeyes is in the background the most delicious sandwich of your choice was sold with vinegar & oil, salt & pepper where Blimpie's used to be☺🥪🧂🍶🗽
I kind of do but it depresses me at the same time. I knew some good people and have some good memories from there when I was younger but at the same time it's chaotic, noisy, dirty and so overcrowded. Can't deal with that anymore I'd go mad.
