How does perfectionism impact your life?

It's held me back for a decade. I was constantly afraid of making mistakes or waiting for "perfect" opportunities.
As a consequence, instead of achieving "perfect" results, I got no results at all.
Once I let go & allowed things to be "good enough" or average even, I felt free. Free to fail, free to live.

      “Impact” ?
I know this is not how you meant that word, but - I see it not as a wrecking ball “impacting” and toppling my day to day, but rather, as an awkwardly heavy, suffocating wet blanket, covering the entirety of my lifetime.
I used to barely be able to breathe under the weight of impossibly high standards and overwhelm.
Now, I am able to direct a heat lamp of self worth and confidence towards certain areas, drying them out and making those sections lighter and easier to work around. Other days, that lamp sets sections ablaze and they get the [bleep] out of my life altogether. ✊❤️‍🔥

Great video. This is something I struggle with. I have a lot of unfinished projects. I’ve learned that if I’m striving for perfectionism then I can’t call it “complete”. If I don’t say it is complete then I can’t be judged or criticized for it. I can always say “it’s not quite done” or “I was going to fix that”. Something I heard a while ago and a mantra I try to use to deal with this is “DONE IS BETTER THAN PERFECT”. I’m learning that getting it done is better. I can always go back and change something if it isn’t quite right. Thank you!

Jeff Goins is a lively, insightful, and awesome guest! I'm in love :)
Growing up in my parents house, I felt the need to be perfect - to be a "good" kid.
Where did that get me.....nowhere, trying to please everyone.
I have re-raised myself to be who I am meant to be.
And as an older adult, I love that I've found my voice & that it evolves every year.
As a maker, you either like what I make or you don't.
I have the great enjoyment of releasing my art into the world!

I'm struggling with this so much right now. It's impacting my career in a big way... I am so desperate and tired of having panic attacks over my projects that I am considering quitting my field. 20+ years of a college education, job experience, and PhD work started all down the drain because I can't face putting my research into publications. I sit down and I can't find the words. I agonize and delay, its complete self sabotage :-( .. it's so hard... Thanks for sharing on this.

''Change your definition of perfection, you have to move form pristine to complete. Did I do the best that I knew how to do with the time and resources that I had today".
Pretty much sums up all the advice I've read, good stuff!

I love this!! With my daughter being in recovery, I saw a need in the community to help those trying to recovery from drugs and alcohol. I started a ministry and a Facebook page. It was SO crazy trying to juggle that and my full time job that I had to really dial it back BUT the impact it made while I had it going was amazing. Now the community has changed so much and has stepped up more to help those in recovery! I was able to pass the baton to a new "runner" and it has been amazing! I love that this speaker says "dont see it as failure"...love that!

I was going to see you guys in Bristol a few years ago. I find your podcasts both inspiring and comforting.
I hope to attend one of your events one day soon.

Love the title of this-- 'Perfectionism is made of fear'. Oh how true that is, how true. Thanks for this amazing video. :)

Perfectionism is an anxiety and a depression rolled into one. You feel perfectionism in your stomach and your feet, freezing you from taking action.
Sidenote, it's annoying that people have ruined it as a "weakness" in interviews, because it legitimately is my weakness in work but if you say it people think you have tickets on yourself! Hahaha. Now I have to lie and make up some other weakness lol :P
I try to remind myself, perfect is the enemy of the good. And done is good enough! It's a process learning this in real life though.

When we first built our house, we invited the neighborhood kids to come and help "distress" our pine floors. I seem to remember chains and roller skates were involved. They thought it was so much fun, LOL.

Each year his mother made him a little robe and took it to him when she went up with her husband to offer the annual sacrifice. 1 Samuel 2:19. I LOVE that he referred to the Bible. There is a lot of wisdom in there; if you look for it.
