If you know how you can just reset the phone and make a new passport within 30min and then open the tesla app anf voila new phone and car. It is litterly not that hard and a serious lack of safety in my eyes.

    On Model 3 & Y, the car doesn’t unlock until you pull the handle. So if the phone is locked, you’d be trying every Tesla door handle in the parking lot until you find the right car. Meanwhile, you’re being recorded by all those other Teslas with their external cameras. You have to unlock the phone and open the Tesla app to locate your car if you don’t know where it’s parked. It’s easier to steal a car with physical keys because you can just click the remote and look for the flashing car.

At least the Tesla has lots of layers of security features (thief needs unlocked phone, pin to drive; car has remote real-time location and speed tracking, remote video monitoring, remote door lock, 8 external cameras, 1 in cabin camera, etc)

  • @dathyr1

    Well if you create a passcode that needs to be entered before the car can start, it doesn't matter if they steal your phone. Cameras don't matter because they can be wearing a mask while stealing the car. Also make sure you have a passcode on the glovebox.
    So unless there is a hack bypass of password codes on Tesla vehicles we don't know about, odds of the car being stolen are very slim.

    Pin aside there is already custom firmware able to rid of a lot of that tracking and data tbh and even if that isn't enough the parts sold on their own are worth more than a Tesla is sold for with their abysmal pricing for parts. So it's a win even if they can't drive it off for long.

    Too bad this is only available in all Tesla models made after March 2018. If your Tesla is older than that, your car could be easier to steal unless you purchase an infotainment upgrade for a cool $2,250.

    Just dealt with a Tesla owner who had his model s stolen. Left his key in the car and the suspect disabled the gps feature. He drove around for a couple days before the WiFi came back on and could track it again.

    • @Teslatainment
      @Teslatainment  Год назад

      Hmm the Tesla owner doesn't have premium connectivity? It's a service that gives your Tesla it's own internet. Meaning that, the car doesn't need to connect to wifi to be located

      @@Teslatainment oh I gotcha. Not sure but I think he mentioned that the suspect turned it off or somehow manipulated the settings to prevent being tracked until the automatic updates kicked in bringing the Tesla back online.
