fun fact: at least one Tesla got stolen. the owner then proceeded to give the cops a constant update on it's location and also mess with the thieves lol
On Model 3 & Y, the car doesn’t unlock until you pull the handle. So if the phone is locked, you’d be trying every Tesla door handle in the parking lot until you find the right car. Meanwhile, you’re being recorded by all those other Teslas with their external cameras. You have to unlock the phone and open the Tesla app to locate your car if you don’t know where it’s parked. It’s easier to steal a car with physical keys because you can just click the remote and look for the flashing car.
@@AaronD_ That's a good point! I can use someone else phone though. I have them download the Tesla app and I sign in. I also have my brother added as a driver to my car. I can always reach out to him for the whereabouts of the car.
How is this any riskier than stolen car keys from a Non-Tesla? At least the Tesla has lots of layers of security features (thief needs unlocked phone, pin to drive; car has remote real-time location and speed tracking, remote video monitoring, remote door lock, 8 external cameras, 1 in cabin camera, etc)
Car has sensors and side camera for that(you can see it on the full self driving preview). Use blinkers to change lanes and Tesla will warn you if there is a car in the blind spot
Well if you create a passcode that needs to be entered before the car can start, it doesn't matter if they steal your phone. Cameras don't matter because they can be wearing a mask while stealing the car. Also make sure you have a passcode on the glovebox. So unless there is a hack bypass of password codes on Tesla vehicles we don't know about, odds of the car being stolen are very slim.
If you open the Tesla App it will show you where it's parked! So make sure your phone is secured. And if you pull the USB drive from the glove box they will take all the camera footage with them to cover their tracks.
