Today I'm snowboarding on Blackcomb mountain with my friend Doug who's learning to hit larger jumps in the terrain park! Doug has had a couple days of hitting smaller jumps and box features on his snowboard. We start the day with a couple warm up laps through the small terrain park getting warmed up and minds thinking about jumps. Next we went through the medium terrain park and took a look at all the jumps. Once we were warmed up on our snowboards and looked at the jumps, we were ready to hit the first jump! The first tip for hitting jumps on your snowboard is to get the speed right, so you can clear the knuckle. A great way to get the speed right is to watch other snowboarders hit the jump first. You can also build your confidence by hitting smaller snowboard jumps. Another key for clearing the knuckle is to get a small pop off the takeoff. This will get you more height in the air to make that landing. Practicing the pop or ollie on the snow and small jumps first so you can use it for landing bigger jumps. The final key in jump progression is to land with your snowboard level. When Doug was first learning to jump he was landing on his tail first, but with some practice he was able to level out the landing. Check out the snowboard trick playlist for more tips on jumps and trick progression! Thanks for watching!

that send in the background at 9:28 lol.
pndub_live lol
I was about to comment that
Shit got me dead asf
Hahaha
pndub_live no dislikes for this comment ! LOL
"He kinda sent it a bit far" Meanwhile at 6:55 in the background some dude was flying
Perfect timing lol
Lmfao
LMAO shit had me dying
I actually laughed about this for real 😂😂😂
omg so many different size and kind of jumps I wish my mountain was this nice for beginners to progress
I wish I had a mountain
Matt Gage what's a mountain?
Were I ride there are knuckles that are 40 feet away from the jump its impossible
i live in ohio dude. it takes forever to get to a good mountain
CamKam123 I have a local hill with only 3 jumps. 2 jumps have 5ish foot gaps and the 3rd is a big 50footer. i get as much speed as i can and i still cant clear that knuckle, i always clip the very edge and tumble all the way down. Im sure if you tried enough you could land the 40 footer.
9:27 I thought that dude was a goner for a second! Lmao
+The Detherage Dialect haha! I actually didn't notice that guy! Looks like he was ok though!
SnowboardProCamp Haha definitely. He bounced out of it like a champ. The camera angle made it look like he was sailing away at first though lol had me worried.
+The Detherage Dialect lol nice I didn't see that
LMFAO!!!!!!
ikr lol
Is just me or do other people look at these jump and think "I can do that" then you get to the smallest jumps and you can't get the confidence
always how it is, for me as well
Zionik Z with jumps, I don’t do that, but I slightly broke my bone on a rail last year so I always do that with rails
I've done a handful of jumps and I still get that feeling.
Zionik Z that’s how I am. I just started doing jumps and tricks and even the small jumps are scary but if you just commit it isn’t bad. And when you land it, it’s so worth the little bit of fear
They just make it look so easy
The diversity in size of the jumps at that mountain are amazing. My mountain has either huge jumps or tiny hoppers so it is really hard for me to learn
My mountains have no jumps so I go off track to find natural jumps
I love how he is talking about, Doug having to much speed in 6:52 and in the Background, you can see this fast and huge jump of the Skier
I'm same stage as Doug so excellent vid, helps me a lot.✌🏽
The boarder at the back round jump 09:28!!!😆
7:12 background guy looks like he's flying
Thats the sign of a good slip back fuck up lol
3:04 No biggie, just a nice backside 180 lol
Those are so easy
I didn’t know boarders find them so cool, it’s one of the easiest tricks in skiing, just takes some more confidence on larger jumps.
Is there backside and frontside on skis though?
@@Niloc1922 nope
@@niilo4254 yes there is depends which way you spin
Love how good of a teacher/buddy this guy is! Pure beauty! Always helps the confidence when you have someone like that in your corner mice job!!
i expected to watch this for a few min max but it ended up being extremely informative and i watched it all, good job lol
Thank you soooo much! I ride the first time this season and I'm a beginner in jumps but with your tips I stand all jumps :). The kickers were 1meter and I can't believe it. Sry about my english but I from Austria and 14 years old. Please make more great videos! You explain it very well and they help me so much! I'm so happy and I only would say THANK YOU!!!!
Tim
Whattup grom
Lmao that poor kid at 9:30 in the background 😂
Great spot😂
i thought he was going for the handstand xD
I was about to coment this lmao
me too :D this is so funny!!!
More like 9:27
More of these Doug progression videos please!
Doug is going to get really good in two more of these videos
haha!
I like these videos, because It helps to see people doing these for the first time, so you can see their mistakes and avoid them. This video helped me with doing M jumps for the first time today!!!!
This was super dope to watch the progression through the jumps. Leaving the ego at home and starting slow and working your way into it. Great video guys!
Yes more of this beginner progression videos.
i love these longer videos keep them longer i would watch an hour video of u just snowboaring.
I know this is 2 yrs ago but i’m a beginner finally starting to get comfortable in my third season and I have been skateboarding my entire life, growing up (two different worlds). Your tips are really define and specific, which helps me differentiate the muscle memory I have for skateboarding and putting the new taught mechanics into snowboarding. The good energy is also super contagious 👍🏻 appreciate it guys! extremely helpful
Doug's cool. Kinda feels like watching Alan from The Hangover progress in snowboarding. Cool video.
Literally the only channel the lowers the volume of the background noise to play music over it to make it fun to watch
I really like watching Doug progress. Definitely on the same page as him
Doug is the MAN! Such a chill well-spoken homie. Let alone the gnarly jumps he was committing to! Cheers to you guys, such a great video.
7:11 Poor guy in the back XD
Haha
Lmao, I searched before I posted because I knew I wasn't the only one who saw.
@@CaPoNRiCoNTtTt Haha thats great XD. We got good eyes huh? 😂
i saw that sht too lmfao. I WAS LIKE OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
@@Haylem Hahaha XD
I like this longer, more in-depth video format. Definitely learning a lot more. Also, I'm amazed at how fast Doug is progressing. Deeply envious!
Doug progressively got cooler as he sent it bigger - you can tell by his voice.
Haha! We need Doug back for more videos!
Great point at the end about how impressive it is to see him progress as he is.
9:27 guy in the back lol
Hahhaha
Love watching someone really open themselves up to trying something new.
Great work, Doug!
Great to have someone who is learning to provide some feedback and intuitive observation from the coach
Fantastic job, Kevin and Doug. I am loving the video series of taking beginners and intermediates to the next level. Keep it up.
Very cool to see his progression throughout the day.
Thumbs up to the DOUG.
It's been cool to see Doug progress in the park.
There are a bunch of things to love about this vid. I just hit blues for the first time this weekend after an edgetune (the first since i got my board 2yrs ago) and 15ft of powder at squaw. The feeling of leveling up (the biggest thing i love about this vid)... I identify with doug and was cheering him and feeling his frustrations. Your channel has helped me on my snowboard journey. Pure dopeness. If i ever epic pass again, im gonna come looking for you guys at whistler.
Awesome video. Really inspires me to just go for it next time i go out
I gotta say thank you for making this video. Confidence is now boosted.
Nice progression Doug ! Greetings from Spain guys
Great to follow along with somebody who has a little confidence and see them progress in a day. Looking forward to getting there myself. Thanks guys!
7:11 guy in the background... i feel you bro😂
This channel is rad. You guys are so honest. I get scared too. But you guys make that so normal.
This was incredible watching his progression. Great video, instruction, and editing! Can you say how much experience Doug had before he shot this video. For example, was he able to do 180s on flat runs or butters?
I've watched you since I first started snowboarding a month ago, now I can hit jumps and and rails because of your videos. Great job with the videos man keep it up!
The thing he said about the pop off the jump 7:15 really helped me getting in control in the air. I saw this tip before on a youtube video, travis rice - How to get in the air. He explained that you shouldn't let the jump control you. So you bring your body in the position you want to be in.
Sick video. I ride solo most of the time, and this is definitely helping me get perspective on how to progress into larger features. Great lessons. Thanks, bro.
You gotta love Doug's lack of ego here. He's willing to say when he gets scared and can't commit to the jump. It helps me learn, tbh.
This is perfect way showing others how to jump when you're teaching someone else through it. Loved the video and keep up the good work!
It's summer here in New Zealand... You're killing me man ;-; Miss the snow so much.
s3raxCA come to Sakhalin
Summer is a loose term for NZ current weather ha, hopefully there is lots of snow this season can't wait!
s3raxCA and it's still snowing on some of the mountains lol
Yeah it sucks can't wait for winter!
I've only just started and now I'll have to pretty much wait for next years season.
I was having the same issues with those same jumps not being able to clear the knuckles but as soon as I added a bit of a pop to the jump it fixed it immediately. its crazy how much a small hop off the lip can help you get a lot more air! Awesome video; very helpful!
Great videos, and the student seems like a really nice guy.
truthfully, I think this is one of your most helpful videos yet. Can't wait to hit the mountain again and try these tips out.
9:28 LOL that dude in the background
Great attitude from Doug.. easy to progress when you have the right outlook
Drinking game: take a shot everytime you hear the word "knuckle"
Pop also works too
Love this series of Pro Camp with Doug, great to watch progress as Kevin makes it look too easy! Doug gives me more confidence to try more things. Great channel keep up the good work 😀
Doug is gonna flyyyyy!
hardly. he is kinda just rolling through these jumps..no pop up. he should be bringing his knees way higher to his chest
been a skier all my life, but today in the middle of Missouri I decided to try something new, yall's videos have helped me! I think I'm a boarder now!!!!
Pratte Overby Snow Creek I take it? :)
gonzo gbravo aye snow creek is so fun even though it is really small
First skied at snow creak. It's pretty icy.
9:20 Summary of this video:
Popping is the key
I´m so glad that you are so easy going, and honest about how you felt and all that. And not macho. awesome video! Love watching you guys :D
that guy at 9:25 :D but good vid man
dougs progression through the video was sick
i need those ramps in our snow area.. dang they would call me the eagle
im really proud of doug. im proud of everyone! step outside your comfort zone!
Doug is the GOAT!
Watching this even though I'm still not ready to be trying jumps LOL
6:55 Love how you were talking about giving it too much speed and then a skier looked like he launched into outer space 😂
You look so natural jumping, Doug. I'm harpy for u. I was having fun watching the video. I'm itchy to try next trip. However, I'm 53. Number one concern is the impact to my knees. If a knuckle is cleared, will impact be much milder?
Zhou Pan - thanks for the compliment! I found hitting the knuckle at low speeds didn't hurt my knees... but I'm sure if they were bigger jumps it could be a lot more painful!
Zhou Pan - Yes, much, much milder. Especially for the larger ones. Just say screw it and hit it full speed after a few times just riding over it. Thats what I did and I find it much easier after you land the first 5 to 10 jumps or less.
Zhou Pan If it is a jump where the kicker is the same level as the knuckle, or almost same level it never hurts. The only thing it can hurt is under your feet if youre a beginner and new to the impact on your feet.
if u make it past the knuckle it’s a lot smoother
Certainly will be.
Grab some compression knee braces or at least see how they feel to wear. Im only 26 with a bung knee from skate boarding, but compression braces help me knee feel strong and stable when hitting medium jumps. Certainly help to reduce landing strains and stresses.
honestly guys you do the best video tutorials. loving this channel. I've been hitting whistler emerald park for sometime and just starting to progress to blackcomb park. had a fall hitting a rail. but just going back and watching these videos to get a freshen up is amazing
9:28 when that guy misses the stop lolol
Lmfao
Kevin is definitely a great teacher always loved these vids. watched all the beginner vids before my first day and I think it really helped me be able to pick it up super quickly
I wish Brighton had a step down like that one at... Whistler I'm guessing?
Riley Pendleton yep
Same
I thought they said they were at Blackcomb?
these are the best videos to learn off of, learning from peoples mistakes
hey, can you focus more on the landing next time? or does anyone have any tips because landing seems to be a bit of a challenge for me & i really want to get into riding the park.
or may you do a video on common mistakes & fixes please!
dbrazierr try to land flatbased and not too backheavy also you dont want to be frotheavy in the air i promise that landing will hurt
dbrazierr and try to stay relaxed in the air reaching for easy grabs helped me alot to stay relax in the air
dbrazierr Make sure you land with your knees slightly bent. They will act like shock absorbers and make the landing that much easier Also make sure you stay balanced as youre landing. Return your center of gravity to over the middle of the board. This will prevent your board slipping out from under you as you land.
Practice a lot on natural jumps, and even on ollies while riding through the slopes !
Whenever you feel like it, just pop an ollie with enough speed to get yourself confortable with it, and then do the same on small bumps, and then you just increase the size of the jumps until you get into parks :)
And most importantly bend your knees !
These kinds of videos of you teaching your friends/beginners work really well! Keep up the good work!
I think I've learned more of the videos of you teaching others than the ones of you 'showing how to do it.
I've learned a ton from this one, I think I might hit these bigger jumps as well the next time I'll be riding! Thanks man!
Haha this video made me laugh so hard 😂 Just because I can relate to him. I'm roughly at the same learning stage as he is.
Just found this channel the other day and I can't stop watching your videos. Planning on hitting the slopes tomorrow and trying out some of the tips I've picked up.
7:10 guy in the back fell hahaha
Doug improved with every Jump!I'll try to use the tips in my next holidays🇩🇪
7:12 the one guy in the background 😂
thank you bro i am from spain and im so grateful for this channel
6 minutes ago, i love you and your channel
Really nice to see a video with a real learner! Very helpful
9:27 The kid in the back XD
Loving the Doug progression videos! Congrats man and thanks for helping me learn more!
this vids more interesting when u look at the back people lol
Watching Doug progress so much has been awesome- keep it up dudes
Does this tutorial work late 2019?
Trolliixz nah tried it but they removed some features apparently.
sorry no
It's been patched.
Gravity was buffed so you cant get as much air as before man, really sucks.
Trolliixz nah they updated the snowboards so they don’t allow you to pop as much. Too many people getting hurt. You can see it in the latest patch notes
Great video to watch now and then before hitting the snow to get the vibe going.
9:27 the kid in the back lol
Thanks for these posts! Super psyched and the idea of using your buddy Doug to show the progression makes it all the more legit. Love the work, keep at it and hello from Ontario.
7:11 background ramp XD
Watching Doug progress is awesome
5:30 hey isn't that TJ ?
It's all about confidence. Everyone falls and you can't let that get you down. Just keep grinding.
The one problem I have is waving my arms when I jump I'm pretty confident in the air but I want to stop waving my arms any advice.
Twix try to do an Indy or a method grab, for me it's easier to hit 5m jumps doing grabs then normal jumps since grabs kind of stabilize your body imo
Ruben Rojas thank you I might be going in 2 hours ill be sure to try
Twix sure! tell me if it worked out for you, Indy grab is easier tho so just try to grab the center of your board wirlth you back hand, don't forget to tuck your knees in! :)
Twix Try to do shiftys or start spinning, and just try to be More relaxed while jumping, never be stressed doing anything. I always try to control my balance with my arms, or don't use them.
grabs, you'd be surprised how easy they are and soon you will feel weird not doing one
For a snowboarder like myself who has always geared towards freeride/mountain double blacks but has strayed away from the intimidating park, this is helpful and meditative to see.
Who else jumps over the tree shadows?
Me sometimes
thank! more of those! it really helps to watch a regular guy learn instead of all the triple cork 1080s masters that really intimidate you.
#JeSuisDoug
I’m getting sooooo hyped for this season
yall canadian AF...but great video thanks!
Kurt Dehnert - oh ya eh? how aboot those jumps!
Doug, what brand/model are your goggles? Nice progression
