You coulda turned and parted in the lathe, you were just spinning too fast, it’s carbide, you can cut through any metal with it with proper speeds. It’s hardened, it’s gonna spark, you could also use ceramic inserts
It was running 300 rpm and it's an interrupted cut. It didn't need to be precise so there wasn't really any point to changing the lathe setup when I could just lob it off with a grinder.
If memory serves it was just under 300 rpm when it became apparent it was pretty hard. At which point since a precision cut was not required it was pretty efficient to skinny wheel it off.

Dudes got mad skills
Bro, remember to use a ceramic insert, they cut hardened material better than carbide
If I had one handy I would have. But ceramic hates interrupted cuts too
There is no steel alive that won't yield to carbide. There are different grades of carbide but every one of them is harder than any hardened steel.

Wouldn't you have to secure every piece of wood very very well in order to use it with a handle like a ratchet?
So that was the reasoning behind the blades to secure the work against the rotation of the screw.

Im curious, if it was too hard for the lathe...how did you machine the face with the lathe
It was case hardened od the outside was much garden than the inside. Good catch.

Its not really too hard for carbide, but those interrupted cuts are hell on a carbide insert and will destroy them real quick.
