Sounds kick-ass! So quiet! It still has that ever so slight harmonic content. Great build!
By the way, I just bought a Grace M101. Hahahaha

Sweet! I'm looking forward to the comparison between the Grace and the DIRYE Duo. They're both preamps that run off IC chips. The DIYRE has the THAT1512, which some think is not as clean on the very top end as the SSM or BurrBrown chipsets (which I think may be in the Grace). I like how the DIYRE seems to tame a little of that upper register where it could be sibilant and turns it into something warmer. I feel ya, man. I'm looking at preamps now, too.

@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff yes. The DIYRE Colour Duo is warm. Tamed highs. And sounds great without any Colours. Just its own sound.
I will be comparing the Grace and the DIYRE in the future!
I love that you and I have some of the same gear to test out. Makes me feel good. 🤓

Nice review and V.O! I’ve got my eyes on 500 series SCA C84. I’ve heard a lot of good things about original C84 as ‘clean’ preamp. Now I intrigued to get CP5!

Thank you! I think the c84 is supposed to be super clean with a lot of high end detail, so it would definitely be one to check out.

You might see if Peterson will send you OLA5 compressor, he has articles in his blog and seems to be good on vocals (and instruments) per reviews on product page. My guitarist buddy gets angry if I cut it off when he's playing.

Cool idea. Truthfully, I'm not a compression guy. I use so little, like imagine someone dipping a teabag into a cup of hot water once, that it doesn't really make my list of projects I'm interested in. It looks pretty cool, but as an optical compressor as well, it wouldn't really be my pick for VO, even with the very light use I'd give it.

Used to be $150 for the longest time, raised the price just a couple months ago.

Oddly enough, when it was $150 I had dismissed it, wrongly thinking it wouldn’t be pro enough for work. But if there’s any consolation, I just got an email from DIYRE that their 14th anniversary sale is on until 8/21 and it’s 14 percent off.
