Great to catch upon the trip Mat, I have been on vacation / holiday for a month and was You tube free. I have always fancied doing the Katy Trail, it's close enough that I can get there from Ontario. Cheers Bob...
You had us again at fried pickles and dark beer. Have been spending hours watching all your historical videos waiting for new content. We'll look for midbikecrisis too. Your funny, current, kind banter is simply very enjoyable. We're Missouians thank you for the shout outs to our beautiful Katy Trail.
It looks like it's Missouri for the bike win! Lael Wilcox rode through the area not long ago and she was surprised at the many people who came out to ride with her. It's good to see they're looking after you, too.
Hey Mat, Maybe at the end of the tour you also include a expenses overview. Is a good information for those who want to plan such a trip. Enjoy and take care!
Definitely Mat, never rush enjoy the experience that you will be able to take home with you and remember it for years to come. The experience is all that matters and savor it while you can daily. Cheers from Oregon state.
Thanks! Have another pint on me! As you get further east, it'll probably be a little harder to find really good IPA's in convenience stores. If you haven't already discovered it, I'd suggest trying something from the Sierra Nevada brewery. They are nationwide, and it's still a decent IPA. Cheers and continued safe journeys!
@@matryderadventures Looks like you are only a couple of days away from the official finish. That is awesome. I've been doing my usual mountain biking here in the PNW. Perfect weather lately. Cheers!
one of the bonuses of long bike rides is that you can (without guilt) stuff your face until your stomach is fit to bust. anyways...i hope you slow down the pace some. i'm sure i can speak for many here that your ride is going to end all too soon. continued safe trip, and thankyou.
I notice on your tracker that you are almost to the C&O. Make sure and do the short hike to the falls when you get to Great Falls Visitor Center. There are bike racks at the start of the walk. It's definitely worth it.
I am glad you are enjoying the Katy trail. It's nice to see all of your fans coming out to meet you. You gave my wife an idea to listen to audio books while you ride. What kind of books do you listen to? I hope you had a great birthday 🎉. I' owe you a birthday meal with a beer. 😂
Love the food package from Matt. Its nice to see some things you enjoy from home. Hobnobs are great for cycling or walking I find. Loved the rail trails. Bet the pizza was enjoyed too! Looking forward to each video.
I’ve lived here 24 years, all I could think of is what would I want from home if I were on a bike miles from home, and a packet of Hobnobs go great in a bottle cage….
Never feel obligated to reply, I know you’re busy, but just want you to know that I’m very much enjoying your adventure and really happy that you found so much kindness here in America. I hope you enjoyed your birthday, have safe travels, enjoy 🚴🏻♀️🤍🌟
Yay! Another great video! And the subscribers keep coming! Just awesome, as always. Happy Birthday! Missouri’s surprisingly hilly - found that out when I drove across on I-70. The channel just gets better and better. Happy rest of the trail from an unseasonably warm Wyoming (92 today)
Hi Mat 👋, and a happy birthday 🍻 Great opening drone footage from above of you cycling along a dusty gravel track between fields, then more great drone footage from the side as you cycle past a yellow rapeseed 🌻 field. Awesome. I've always been against any musical/sound distractions whilst cycling but I've been considering a pair of bone conducting earphones as they, apparently, allow you to listen to music AND hear the sounds of nature at the same time. That option could have a place on my journeys. At 18:55 , Mrs P said that your "experimental camera angle legs" did indeed look just fine 🦵 I get what you mean by enjoying cycling over bridges, I feel like I'm travelling through a portal. Same as when I get on a ferry with my bike. It doesn't have to be going into a different country, it predominantly happens when I'm in Scotland. There was a nice rumbling of the planks noise as you crossed the bridge just before meeting Manchester Matt, and just what a star he turned out to be! Influencer Mat, you looked like a kid in a sweetshop with your Blighty goody bag 😁 Another great content video guys 🚲 , and fantastic editing once again Ross 🎥 Cheers Mat 🖖
Great video, positivity, kind humans, and fantastic sense of humour . I will miss your adventures. Enjoy the rest of your trip making memories. Hope you manage to have a few more beers before the end. 😊
Enjoying your videos and wanted to let yo know I’m now living vicariously through you 😂 I’m a lifelong cyclist but never really saw myself as a bike packer I love to ride and camp but never thought of mixing the two. Just keep the vids coming and be safe !
Hi Matt from rainy Capel st mary Suffolk . Were really enjoying your travels and looking forward to the next episode as were all caught up , good luck 👍🏼👍🏼
hey Mat! big fan, wanted to say audiobooks during riding is one of my absolute favorite things to do, get lost in nature and in sci fi/ fantasy at the same time, wonderful
A belated happy birthday Mat! I lived in Missouri for a couple of years when I was much younger, and I think I mentioned earlier that you'd probably find it a little hilly after Nebraska and Iowa. I am very glad that you met some great people down there on your journey through! Really enjoyed your camera work as you were crossing some of the bridges. Whenever I cross suspension or truss bridges on a motorcycle or bike, I always look up for the view as well. And I'm stoked for you that you got to hang out with GDMBR Bill. Cheers!
Stag beer, oh my. A cheap but cheerful local beer. Glad you enjoyed Missouri so much. Not spectacular, but kind and friendly and homey. You love crossing bridges, and I love riding through farmland, so MO is good for both of us! I have watched some of MidBike Crisis' stuff before, so I am glad that you got to meet him.
I knew you’d like the Katy trail, it’s another one on my bucket list. Some good ones to come, like the GAP and C&O, though you’ve probably done them by now! Beautiful scenery, good weather and some riding companions, you can’t beat it. Stay safe and be lucky Mat.
Thanks again for another fine Mat and Ross Collaboration video. I had the opportunity to ride 273 miles on GDMBR in Montana some of it for 2nd time last summer (2023). Had total knee replacement late July this summer So now I rehab on my spin bike and dream of riding the Katy trail like Mat someday. Cheers.
A couple months ago I was watching another man named Matt and his partner walk the Katy from east to west on their hike across the country on the American Discovery Trail from Delaware to San Francisco. It looked incredible, and when you started your trip I was excited to see how much you'd enjoy it when you finally got there. Glad to see it's treating you well! Hopefully it makes up for my home state (Nebraska) being a big windy jerk to you.
Hi Mat, love the video. So very inspiring. It’s making me want to get back in the saddle and plan a mini epic for my 50th, maybe not quite on your level though!!! Keep up the great videos and stay safe on the trails
"time has no meaning" love it. I have felt that misery, and kinda joy at same time, of just getting to a place and yearning to get on from point A where there is suffiering to point B (civilization) where there is food, hot water. That's partly what I truly enjoy about riding long miles, and getting isolated, makes me appreciate people and places when I get back to them. 🙂
Hi Matt. I'm addicted to your channel!! Love your humour and wit and your take on things is awesome. P.s. thanks to Ross for putting these great vids together
Loving this Matt, great to see you really enjoying it, and fantastic to see so many coming out to spread the love ❤️ ...and wasn't Katy an absolute sweetheart.
Hey Mat!!! You made my day. I was justing thinking that it was time for you to release a video!! I love your videos especially these trips. I am already getting sad that your trip is almost over... LOL Are you finding this tour harder than the GDMBR?
Him glad you liked these. I am finding this tour tougher mentally. I think it's because I've been riding alone a lot. Physically the GDMBR was harder. The GDMBR is tough to beat.
Happy Birthday Mat 🎉 I am starting to get sad that this adventure is coming to a close. Though I am certain some sleep in your own bed will feel delightful!
Wow, free food, over night stays, all these people taking care of you.. you could just live this way and not go back to work! Another great video... thanks.
Hey Matt. I was beginning to worry there, with no new video. But hey presto, you and Ross delivered. Another good one, a funny interlude about your memory and the source of the Missouri River. It warms the cockles of our heats to see the kindness of strangers on this channel. Looking forward to your next instalment. Also happy belated birthday wishes to you. Hopefully you will be planning for another great adventure soon? Oh. The shots of the ear and legs worked. What a cameraman.
Thanks Matt once again. Following this religiously just like your other trips. Inspired me to do this one in 2026. Fancied the GDMBR but the bears worry me 😅
Love the Katy Trail! When me and my friends stopped in Hermann, the only thing open was a gas station, so it was gas station food for dinner that night.
I live in SW Missouri in the Ozark Hills; it’s scenic but harder to cycle. I visited Wales in 2018, it’s a lovely Country. My Father’s family came over a couple of generations ago. Hard to tell from where in Wales since they entered illegally from Canada. It was common then. Cheers!
Just finished this video dude and I have to say you’re looking a lot more perky than of late so your new friends are definitely having an influence on the feel good factor.I think doing the miles on the trail against being battered up hills on the freeways also helps so great to see another great video and of course looking for your next instalment 👌🎥🚴♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧
One of your better sections of the trip and it shows in your video. Great people in the Mid-West and glad you found some folks to ride with. You have helped inspire me to start a quick figure-8 bikepacking from Boise, ID north. A mostly dirt loop with 50 hot springs and lots of climbing. Training in the Tetons on my mountain bike and hope it is enough!
Hi Mathew love the videos. You don't seem to be cooking this trip. No hot coffee on your stove in the morning. Love all the drone footage. Hopefully see you soon. X
re: audio books, I do the same thing. 😅😄 About to start my ride from Pittsburgh to Florida. You are inspiring me! I love being on the trail/road with my bicycle.
Texas Hill country was like that. Up, down, up down for miles on end. And it rained every day. Infact a few people we met said thank you to us for bringing the rain after 18 months of drought! Texas was a struggle. You will always have one particular state you will remmber fondly and others not so keen. But everyday brings wonders, joy and serendipity if you are open to experiencing the simple pleasure of cycling. Enjoy!
Hope you're missing all the rain remnants heading up the East Coast from the various Florida hurricanes this year Mat! I knew you'd enjoy the rail trails once you got farther east on your adventure! I've gone on a couple bikepacking adventures to the local campgrounds at Falls Lake & Jordan Lake here recently and enjoyed the heck out of both! I lived in Minneapolis from 1988 - 1995 & have to say I found people from the midwest to be quite welcoming & wonderful! I'll let you know if I manage to get up to either the GAP rail trail or C&O tow path and / or the Empire State Trail heading east from Buffalo to Albany & then south to NYC in the coming weeks. I've been starting to research potential new wheelsets for my 2022 Kona Sutra. Velocity, Mavic Allroad Disc, & Hunt 4 Seasons Superdura Disc all seem to have excellent potential and the capability of supporting 40 spokes on the rear wheel & 36 up front. Probably be wise to upgrade but I'm honestly trying to balance it with the cost at this point. Either way I'm planning to switch to the Schwalbe Allmotion tubeless tires fairly soon. Wish you safe travels and continued success on your journey Mat!
Hi. I'm on the GAP and it's raining but not heavily. I'll be interested to hear what choices you make with the wheels. These tyres have been incredible. Cheers
Glad you enjoyed the Katy. I have done the complete trip once and ride it regularly around the St Charles area. Thanks Mat the great videos, and good luck on the rest of your trip.
awesome documentary of your time on the Katy trail! Pretty much sums up what I told you about people in the Midwest - most of us are nice people! Great job.
Mat - I'm a long time admirer of your videos and a fellow bike adventurer (just back from the San Juan hut ride). If your travels bring you to the NYC area around 10/18, we would be happy to host you (we live north of Manhattan), get your bike boxed, and drop you off at JFK. Drop me a note if of interest, and we can figure out logistics.
@@matryderadventures Great fun. Not quite “glamping” but it’s nice finishing up at a fully stocked cabin each night. Finishing in Moab was great. Keep those videos coming. I see you’re up to 12k subscribers - excellent!
Hope you had a SUPER Birthday Mat. Great episode. The Katy Trail looks amazing. We have sections of Rail Trail here on Cape Cod and it reminds me of that kind of riding. Matt from Sale is a legend. Awesome. I've had my fix for the week. It does not get much better than this. Joining up with the cyclists is just incredible stuff. Thanks Mat and Ross and the good lady who's name escapes me.
That is so neat how you camped on the edge of that corn field. The soil looked pretty hard and compacted. I would be tempted to dig a little hollow for my shoulders and hips to rest but, I wouldn't want to dig up another man's field. Keep pedaling Mat. Cheers.
I feel like I'm cheating watching the bikes and beyond channel in your future. You continue to show the best face of America. International celebrity! Love it man. This is how to tour.
Wow! Great video! I live in Missouri, so it was nice seeing some local areas through a foreigner’s eyes. Love your videos. Seeing my beautiful daughter and her amazing husband in the bike shop, was definitely icing on the cake!!
Awesome work on the edit Ross. Love the flashback with sound effects (bet that took some time to find) and the flash forward. Bro. I can’t get over how many folks are coming to meet you. What lovely people. Can I just check if you like the Katy trail and riding over bridges? You’ve perked right up on this section.
Hey Mat, thanks for sharing your adventures with us all, I can't tell you how much I look forward to each new video'! Safe travels and HAPPY BIRTHDAY from your friends in Canada.
Matt try “No Normal Coffee”. It’s a coffee paste in a tube and a lot better than instant. You still just add hot water. It’s available in the UK as I saw it on Sorted Food.

If your travels bring you to the NYC area around 10/18, we would be happy to host you (we live north of Manhattan), get your bike boxed, and drop you off at JFK. Drop me a note if of interest, and we can figure out logistics.
That's really kind of you but I fly out on the 12th. Thanks for the offer. How was the San Juan Hut ride? I really want to do something similar.
Glad you bumped into a Northerner like me. Would kill for a pack of HobNobs after 20 years living over here. Hahaha. Awesome that you were getting spoiled in this episode. You deserve it. Till the next time.. Lee
Awesome. I've had my fix for the week. It does not get much better than this.
Joining up with the cyclists is just incredible stuff.
Thanks Mat and Ross and the good lady who's name escapes me.
Caroline 🤣🤣. Cheers
She caught the Katy
And left me a mule to ride.
Is now firmly stuck in my head!😎
Hey Matt I hope you have a plan to avoid the bad weather from the storm in the Gulf.
Looks like a strong one. Be careful my friend.
Awww. How sweet. They were a lovely couple. I hope they bought their bikes and have been out riding.
The Katy trail has been on my bucket list! And Mat, your Garmin dot has not moved in 3 days - hope all is OK!
It should start moving again today, he’s had a few days off staying with Bill from the GDMBR series
Hi Steph. I think I might have overstated how much I love the Katy Trail 🤣, and bridges 🤣. See you soon.
Happy belated birthday! Enjoy a good beer. Cheers!
Very interesting. Thanks
Great video Mat, great meeting you and riding for the day.
It was awesome meeting you and your kids. You made my day 👍👍
