What a pleasure it was riding with you! Thanks for the shoutout to my channel. For anyone wondering, Mat is the real deal, what you see is what you get. Absolutely wonderful guy.
Your videos should be declared of national interest : kindness, humor, food, camaraderie and cycling... basically, the perfect recipe for world peace. What more could you ask for ?
I agree too. Mat is breaking the barrier. Mat is does not make it about gear, or stamina or hardwork ... just genuine optimism and great organizing skills. The part that he obviously works hard on is the footage ... we all owe him a huge thank you.
The GAP trail is an amazing way to cross the Applachian ridge. I recommend anyone to try sections ... needs no special geat or bikes ... I saw one video of a guy doing Pittsburgh to DC on a fixie [one gear] bicycle ... absolutely doable.
Superb post, loving Bills place, very cool, beautiful work. You met some cracking folks again, lovely spirits, ultra positive, fantastic. John best of luck with your channel and cause. Mat you are hugely on the up when you have company, it lifts your vibe noticeably, great progress from you again, eating the miles, eating the pizza, supping the beer, love it. The drone work is amazing, it looks as though you have a bespoke film crew following you, genuinely great perspective Mat. To all who read thumbs up, thanks to Ross for his editing prowess, safe travels mate, happy biking.
I agree the drone view of the bridge was AMAZING. I love following your journey and wish I could join you. If you ever end up in Florida you’ll have a cold beer waiting for you!
We had to wait for 24hours to watch this download. Life gets in the way Mat Ryder and Ross. However, it was worth the wait. It’s like an injection of beautiful scenery, including the main cast ,warmth and humanity that comes into our life every week. Michelle, my wife said, when she’s better she’s getting back on her bike because of Mat. Keep the great content coming and inspiring people like Michelle. 👍🏻🚴😀✅
I've really enjoyed your channel so much since finding it last year. Although I thought your ride on the GDMBR was more scenic and adventurous, this trip really restored my faith in the people of America - the generosity and kindness shown to you along the way was amazing and heartwarming. Bill's place was a real highlight as well - what an awesome house and piece of land! Safe travels on the rest of your journey!
Well Matt, I hope when you get home, you can tell everyone, those Yankee’s aren’t so bad.😂 we’re not as crazy as the news media makes us out to be. I so glad, you got to experience Midwest hospitality. I’ve sure enjoyed watching your videos.
Great video! Awesome trails and cool towns. I’m definitely going to explore the eastern part of the country someday. Bill’s place was amazing! I’m a “stack the wood neatly” person as well! I can tell his attention to detail is perfect. The drone footage showed acres and acres of pride and hard work! Well done Bill! Keep riding safe Mat!
Wow, what an amazing place Bill has! Absolutely stunning. And so great all those kind, warm, hospitable, generous people you meet. You look so much happier than a couple of videos ago. Great to see. Have fun with the last part! 🙏🏼
My wife and I continue to enjoy your videos. You've inspired us to get out our bikes these last few weeks. Both rides have been about 20 miles on our local Electric Trail near Albany, NY. They are recorded on Strava. Your eagerness and joy to meet others on the trail is refreshing. A number of years ago when Carrot Quinn was hiking the PCT she was horrified when some people following her hike found her in the woods.😮 We will be in England in January visiting my wife's Aunt before heading to Amsterdam for a Viking River cruise down the Rhine. My wife's aunt lives in Swaffham. I see you spent a few days in Manhattan. Hope you got to do some sightseeing. Thanks for your enjoyable videos and maybe some day we can buy you a beer!
Hi. It's always nice to hear that people have been inspired by these videos. I don't love far from Swaffham and will be in Amsterdam tomorrow. I really enjoyed Manhattan. I would love to go back. One day. Cheers.
Congrats on another fantastic episode Mat! I recently returned to NC after riding the GAP trail for six days (Oct 8 - 13). Rode for three days in each direction between Cumberland, MD < - > Pittsburgh, PA. The foliage & scenery were splendid and appeared to be only a bit shy of peak. I'm still a bike touring and bikepacking novice but my 52 cm 2022 Kona Sutra performed flawlessly and I thoroughly enjoyed all three hundred miles of the Trek which obviously pale in comparion to your cross country journey. I stayed in two Marriott hotels, one B&B, & one motel and also camped outside a couple nights at the hiker - biker campgrounds (in Bottomround & Connelsville). Met a lot of great people along the way. So sorry that I thought you were several days farther along down the road as I didn't realize you'd stayed at your friends place in Ohio for several days. Would have liked to rode together on the GAP but next time! I ordered the 700 x 55 Portland Design Metal Fenders and the Schwalbe Marathon Almotion tires you recommend. Also picked up some leather treatment creme to help break-in my Brooks B17 saddle. Do you remember what width tires you ordered on the Almotions? ~ Here are some details on the Velocity Aero alloy wheelset that I checked into as a potential upgrade from the stock WTB wheelset. The Velocity website provides more details & they respond to customer service inquires by e-mail in case for any future questions you may have: www.velocityusa.com/ ~ I'm still on the fence whether I'll replace the stock WTB wheelset on my Kona Sutra. Hope this helps and safe travels as always Mat!
Hi. Thanks for this information. I think I'll look into those wheels. You've definitely done all the work for me. I used 38mm Allmotion tyres. I was very happy with them. I didn't have one flat.
Keep up that work on suicide prevention! 34y retired Policeman here. Saw way way too many! 5 attempts in one day, 1 successful! I felt I only said the right things a handful of times! Thanks to your riding companion! Enjoyed this video!!! All of it! Take care!!!
Mat, you are such a genuine and generous person. I believe I can speak for all Americans when I say that you are welcome to come back any time. I hope that you do. Good luck and enjoy the rest of your journey.
What a wonderful video, the GAP looks amazing. I really need to get moving on this growing bucket list of mine. Thoroughly enjoying watching this trip and the interactions with all your companions. Stay safe and be lucky Mat.
Theres "Ride to Eat" and "Eat to Ride" ... and Mat ... you are definitely, "Ride to Eat"!! John was wonderful and very well spoken. What a pleasure to meet and ride with him. Best wishes ... please come back next year.
Was that John Connor from Terminator?? He sure changed... 😅 Nah, he seems like a wonderful guy and it seems the John Connors of the world are set to do nice things for something bigger than themselves. The importance of the foundation he represents can't be exaggerated. Suicide is a long term solution to a short term problem so we need to reach out to as many as we can to counter the sad statistics and help people get their lives back on track. On food, I thought you'd go for the Smothered Chicken 😋 I'm that guy 😅 Bill, though, what a guy. He reminds me alot about a colleague of mine. Both from what we see of his personality but also in terms of looks. Same build and the same cool beard. Wish I could have that without looking like a homeless guy 😋 This has been an incredible jurney to tag along on. I travel through your lens, Mat, and I'm so greatful for what you're doing and the places you bring us to. And those closest to you who stand behind you that help making what you do possible. Thank you to each one of you aswell, you're awesome too :-) You're a true inspiration, Mat, and since I discovered your channel about a year ago, you have grown to be my favorite youtuber/bikepacker/hiker. I guess I'm drawn in by your calm and kind demener, your warm and sometimes subtle sense of humor, and in general your gentle approach to life and your zest for the outdoors. Killer combo 🙂 Since you're home by now, please put your feet up for a couple of days and have a Guinnes. Just one. Or 3 1/2 😅 Nothing is like splitting a few G's 🙂 Cheers Mat, and CHAPEAU!!
You are the perfect social butterfly. I love it. What interesting things you find to film and with some great people too. I bet the future videos are equally as fun to follow. Great work 👍 keep them coming.
Mat, I think your discombobulation comes from staying with so many people. you have lost your foraging skills. Another great video, glad you made it home safe. Cheers.
Another great video! Mat obviously attracts the most warm and generous people, and I’m so glad the rest of us got to meet them as well. Please yes, do the Arizona Trail!👍
I like bridges and tunnels, too. Never enough of those! Thank you again for the experience! It takes my mind off daily problems and slows down the pace of my life. One should appreciate simple pleasures and peoples' company more often.
This is my fav so far Matt. I loved seeing Bills place. Thanks to both of you for sharing. In addition to my own bicycle touring I’m now inspired to ponder hiking the AT. I love being outdoors after spending so much time behind a computer screen writing code, etc. love what you do 💙
Hi Mat been following you all the way and now hating knowing you are nearing the end. You must be famous now as I was watching Mike Coles on here who is in NSW Australia and he is watching you on tv. Can I give a shout also to Flyscout Ryder Diego is the American version of you and like yourself seems a nice fella. Loved that tandem colour scheme and you really have met some smashing people on this trip. Its also interesting to see so many American's riding drop bar bikes as apart from here in the UK Europeans prefer straight bars. In fact I am going to build one this Winter. Any regrets on not taking the pinion bike ! Stay safe out there Ted
Hi Ted. I'll take a look at both Mike Coles and Flyscout Ryder. I prefer the Pinion bike but was really surprised at how well the Kona performed. I had no real problems with the derailleur. I'll take the Pinion to New Zealand on my next trip. Cheers.
Wow, thanks for the memories! When I rode the Northern Tier across I veered down through northern Ohio for a family reunion, when I got back on route I picked up the Panhandle and Connocton Trails in WVA and PA. Then picked up the GAP/C&O in Pittsburgh toward DC. Spent a night in Steubenville, PA. The trails are beautiful in that area.
Mat as always thank you for taking us with you on your adventures. Was great to see your support from your fans and your candid conversations. Safe travels sir and eagerly waiting for your next video.
Great vid Mat.. nice to see you hooked up with John and Bill.. Bills place was amazing wow 😊 awesome how your editing and putting these vids out dude while on the road.. glad I stumbled on your channel take care on the road buddy 😊 Pete 🚴🏻👍
Met you in Harpers Ferry. You were meeting a friend in DC. Strangely, in this video you’re riding north. I was hit by a car in Frostburg riding to motel.
Nice one Mat ,really enjoying the scenery in last couple of videos ,real pritty and green!Had a hard day at work and video really cheered me up ,already looking forward to next one!
Wonderful countryside and marvellous trails, not forgetting great little towns, bye to John, a well deserved rest with Bill so kind, nice chat with Tom, hello Bob and Maggie, wow Pitsburge, welldone Mark hello Kate, more bridges and thanks for sharing Mat great video as ever 👏👋
Hello Matt, you are getting closer to your finish line in the next few days unless there will be more of those interesting off days that so far has given you a great restful time on the trail. I have to say your videos are very addictive because they have a lot of varied experiences that makes many people happy, what an adventure. Cheers again from Oregon.
Thanks for doing the video. I am riding Pittsburgh to DC. I must be just a few days behind. I will make Cumberland tomorrow 10/16. I did the same on the GDMBR last year for 700 miles. Love how fast you get your videos out.
I'm starting my own cross-country e-trike trip in January, from Key West to Cape Flattery. I've been watching your videos and was inspired to make it happen. Question: What is the best method of communicating near-live with strangers? Do you first talk with people on other platforms, and then exchange more personal info via texts? Part of the excitement of traveling is meeting new people. But we all have to keep safety in mind. Thanks in advance. Cheers 🍻
Good luck with that trip. It sounds amazing. I'll be interested to hear how you get on. I find that email or Instagram messaging works well. It's difficult using text messages, especially as I have a UK SIM and it's pretty unreliable.
It’s been great to see the rail trails - and the scenery. Ohio is kind of under-rated: I’ve only ever crossed the state on the interstate/turnpike. So glad you had the chance to spend time with such amazing people. Camerawork really awesome. Take care
I stopped at Walden’s for breakfast on a tour from DC to Indiana in 2005. They gave me the meal for free! And it was delicious. As you might say, the food was awesome!
I was tracking you through OH, hoping to catch up with you on the Montour Trail as you passed within a mile of my home. I ride that trail all the time. You had those couple of days off, and I got busy and missed you. I was very disappointed., but I’m glad you had such a good trip through my home territory! I have really enjoyed this series and am inspired. Thanks for sharing!
AZ Trail...oh my gosh. I'm not ready for that, but being in AZ I'll provide some serious trail magic. How do I (we) stay in the know? It's a tough trail, from what I hear. Lots of hike a bike..
I had a custom topping pizza from a Grocery store in Las Vegas called, "Winco" over a week ago: $11.98 for a large unbaked pizza which had the following toppings: 1) Sliced black Olives 2) Green Bell Peppers 3) Sausage 4) Tomatoes and 5) Spinach. I haven't had a pizza for over two years!!! It was really good. The Cashier also said; "That pizza looks really yummy".
I'm going to be sad to see this ride ending. Totally enjoy every video. Each one is a great feel good journey. Just what we need now with all this election drama happening
Loving your videos, mate. Just wondering if there are any visa constraints for you being in the US… (90days?). I am planning to do this trip next year ( German national). I’d need to check on US immigration rules, I guess. Ride on and enjoy the local IPAs, big guy!!!
Hi Mat, Could you please make a video showing how you down load a route onto your Wahoo? I have the same Wahoo Element Bolt and I can not figure out how to down load a route on it. Thanks.
I will add it to the list. In the meantime you can message me at matryder2@gmail.com I may be able to help. If nothing else I can film a quick 'how to' video which I can send directly to you.
What a pleasure it was riding with you! Thanks for the shoutout to my channel. For anyone wondering, Mat is the real deal, what you see is what you get. Absolutely wonderful guy.
The pleasure was all mine. I hope you're doing well. I watched your latest video. It looks like you had a great time.
Your videos should be declared of national interest : kindness, humor, food, camaraderie and cycling... basically, the perfect recipe for world peace. What more could you ask for ?
He'd ask for an IPA and a large bag of gummy bears ...
I agree too. Mat is breaking the barrier. Mat is does not make it about gear, or stamina or hardwork ... just genuine optimism and great organizing skills.

I am planning the GDMBR next year and would love to get in touch with John. I will be 63 and retired. Love the videos.
Excellent. You'll love the GDMBR. If you email me at matryder2@gmail.com I'll give you his details.

Great to see Bill! I was expecting to see a hammock hanging in his beautiful little house.
Love Tuesday, it's Mat video day!!
SEEMS TOO FAR BETWEEN VIDEOS! MORE MORE MORE! (PATTY)
Well Matt, I hope when you get home, you can tell everyone, those Yankee’s aren’t so bad.😂 we’re not as crazy as the news media makes us out to be. I so glad, you got to experience Midwest hospitality. I’ve sure enjoyed watching your videos.

Bill. Amazingly beautiful place. And so cool that you and your Dad built it together. ❤️
Thanks!
As the Beatles once said, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
What a beautiful home and setting Bill has. What a privilege to see it in this way. Thank you. I continue to love for videos.

"I love a bridge, what can I say" sounded like Nessa from Gavin and Stacey
Yes, rainy day.
Some skin on leg and elbow healed nicely. Mentally scary. The driver was a retired PA State Trooper.
Mat, you are such a genuine and generous person. I believe I can speak for all Americans when I say that you are welcome to come back any time. I hope that you do. Good luck and enjoy the rest of your journey.
Matt, I live in Columbus and I’m just getting into cycling. Your videos have inspired me to take advantage of the trails. I appreciate your content!!
I should have just blown off work completely and kept riding from Illinois with you..... great views. super drone shots as well.
You definitely should have! Hope all is well with you.
@@matryderadventures other than a slight case of rider's regret or FOMO - I am doing great. Hope you are as well.

Hi Mat, You truly are a people person. Loved this video and was sad that it was over.
Wow ! Bill's property looks Amazing !!!!
Awesome seeing another CO-Motion Cycles tandem. We sure love riding our tandems with our two boys.
Another great video. Safe travels.

Can’t fault the yanks, really nice people. Kind generous down to earth
Mat, I think your discombobulation comes from staying with so many people. you have lost your foraging skills. Another great video, glad you made it home safe. Cheers.
I think you're right Steve. I've become soft.
Another great video! What will I do when your journey finishes?……..I know, watch it all again😊
Brilliant idea forfeiting your own kofi for this video, I’ve just donated to Team Cont;nue, amazing worthwhile cause 👍
Thank you very very much Caroline!
Just as I got around to sitting down and watching this, fedex dropped off my new velo orange crazy bars. Good day so far lol

Bill seems like such a kind, and happy guy!
I had a ropey couple of days and this film really cheered me up. Amazing generosity from our US cousins.
I started salivating at the seafood sampler and didn't get any further across the menu! 🤤

Yes on the Arizona trail !
The gap is such a great trail. Great Video
Still resisting watching these until I get into the long winter turbo sessions but it’s getting hard to resist!
Welcome to Maryland, my home state.
ROLL ON 🚴🚴
It's amazing the milage you put in every day. I've ridden most of the trails you had in the video, but not the distances.
Take care
Yet another great vlog. Kudos to all your friends, wonderful people. You all should all give yourselves a good pat on the back.
Impressive stuff mate your close to finishing yet another of the worlds epic rides ....you'll be back in Blighty before you know it Mat.
Heck yah Mat! Great to see another episode.
I stopped at Walden’s for breakfast on a tour from DC to Indiana in 2005. They gave me the meal for free! And it was delicious. As you might say, the food was awesome!
Marvelous film as ever.
Loved seeing Bill again. Does he have a social media presence? He seems so knowledgeable and I’d love to learn from him.
I don't think Bill does much on social media but I'll check to make sure.
That's a shame. I'll be back. Maybe we'll meet next time.
Great video, nice to revisit the GAP trail- I stayed in that same shelter and that hostel when I rode it this summer!
Great video Mat. I’ll be going this route next year. Hope I can bump into the same wonderful folk you have!
Excellent. Good luck 👍👍
AZ Trail...oh my gosh. I'm not ready for that, but being in AZ I'll provide some serious trail magic. How do I (we) stay in the know? It's a tough trail, from what I hear. Lots of hike a bike..
Trail magic sounds good to me. We'll be hiking the AZT for a change.
Who needs cable!!!! when we have Mat Ryder.....
Sour patch kid, and a PayDay.....👍
Have you finished your ride? Checked out your Garmin thingy; fnshed n Oct 8?.
Yes. I finished in NY on the 8th October. I'm back in the UK now.
Great video.
Dude, you look scruffy in that opening scene 😅. I am totally enjoying your adventures, keep going strong 🚴
And just like that, Mat solved Bigfoot. Thanks, Mat.
Hi. I have a tourist VISA so can be in the US for 6 months. I believe you are limited to 3 months on an ESTA. Glad you like the videos. Cheers.
movie jack reacher tom cruise was filmed in that pittsburgh neighborhood where Sandy lived
I knew it! I was thinking just that as I was watching it. Thanks for confirming that I’m not crazy 😃
Was looking for you Matt but I missed you.😊
Sorry about that. Maybe next time. I'll be back.

Yes, but I save the world in the end!
😂😂 I guess you're used to this.
@@johnconnor7201 amazing!
Did you get a bike fitting before starting this adventure? Thanks!
I didn't. I thought about it but haven't had any issues so I'm not sure if it's necessary.
Hi Mat, Could you please make a video showing how you down load a route onto your Wahoo? I have the same Wahoo Element Bolt
and I can not figure out how to down load a route on it. Thanks.
I will add it to the list. In the meantime you can message me at matryder2@gmail.com I may be able to help. If nothing else I can film a quick 'how to' video which I can send directly to you.
