@@crazy-4-cooking at that age I was totally grounded....probably not the same kind of grounded she is. LOL
I think this is one of the most important things she’s learning. Pressure is something we put on ourselves when we get older, a valuable lesson indeed. I think it’s just amazing how she is figuring that bass part out. She is teaching us all as well

My jaw has hit the floor so many times . . . I agree with others that some pros wouldn't learn this difficult little piece that fast. A pleasure to watch both student and a really FINE teacher. Wish I had that kind of encouragement when I was learning. Look forward to watching Ellen develope, but then, she's already SO good it's scary. 😳

even when she messes up she's just awesome, and full of energy. You see her dad trying to get her attention sometimes, which means she's having fun and He isn't pushing her toward something she doesn't like, she's enjoying this. I could watch kids learn all day. I watched the Warning from as early as I could when they started posting (not the sandman, I didn't know about them then) and now they are super stars and doing what they love. Ellen's a Groove Monster!!

For an 11 year old she is very patient and attentive. It's amazing of how fast Ellen picked up the first part. it took her 39 minutes to learn the whole song. I would had broke it down into 4 parts and taken 4 days . Amazing.
I wish I could have such a productive 45 minutes! This is awesome!
Fascinating to watch how quickly Ellen learns the complicated bass part and has fun doing it. Equally fascinating is the way her father encourages his daughter and gives her the necessary hints at the crucial points. Daughter and father are equally talented!

DAMN!!!! You are sure Ellen did not practise this song since weeks? Well, she would not lie... BUT...!!!! This is extreme skills and super fast pick-up of the songs. Dhe really FEELS it and thanks to Hovak she has ALOT of technical knowledge for all those steps, intervals, tricks. Just mindblowing!!!!!! This song is hard and fast... DAMN... are you even real? Hovak, check if she has a battery department on her back, hahaha... Seriuosly, Ellen, you have insane skills for playing only since almost 2 years. Horns up and bow to the floor!
@Lawrence Carver But IT IS awesome If she combines that, with Sheets, Tabs, the yousician Thing, logical build-up Trainings and play-alongs. She Developer versatile skills fast. Hovak needs to Take Advantage of her neverending, leeching will to learn and Play. She IS Like a des sponge, soaking in everything you could ever learn about Bass, wanting more and more, laughing at mistakes, wanting to Go over and over and over, even if the Fingers Hurt. Use it AS Long AS it lasts ❤️. Sure she next year can Go into slapping, tapping, Double thumb, slides and bends and all that crazy stuff, If she Jeeps Up Like this. Perhaps even a private Lessons with Davie or Charles?

Watching little Ellen play brings so much joy to my heart. She has the perfect balance of childhood innocence and seasoned pro. Aside from her fantastic fingerwork, her level of active listening and ear training is very impressive. And that smile ... she's just loving every minute of it. As am I.
I subscribed part way through the video and am looking forward to not just listening to, but experiencing more of Ellen's musical prowess.
On a side note, in the next few of months, I will be buying my first electric bass to learn on, at the not so tender age of 51. Lol. Since Ellen is already a huge inspiration for me, I'll be sure to watch her instructional videos once I have my bass in-hand. Thank you, Ellen!

See what they're doing?....Her Dad is training her to 'pick things up' by Ear, and learn 'on the fly'...replete with all the typical distractions happening around her, and in the background, while cams roll 'live'...and some pressure on. He keeps her focused, inspired, and having fun. That's paramount. She'll take these practice sessions with her, for the rest of her life. Smart Dad. Good Dad. She's going to be ....something else.

You are so very talented Ellen. You are an inspiration to others. Speaking of inspirations, one of the most inspirational bass players I've ever heard is the bassist Les Claypool (he's ALSO a big fan of the band Rush). He has a very unique style whereby he combines single notes with chords and percussive elements using the bass. When he plays it often sounds like there are TWO bassists playing simultaneously. I love watching talented young people just knock things out of the park like this. And her joy in doing it is so refreshing. My gf teaches people around her age. I bet it would be rare for her to find someone like her.

Hello. Ellen surely already has a good ear for its age. Did you planned to make her learn to read music (F key at first step) ? You know for sure it should be a so powerful weapon for her to be able to play anything, no matter the style, when, maybe one day, she will be asked to be a session player. My guitar teacher learned me to read ALL the keys (G, F, and UT2 and UT3), until I had to be familiar with, thus I could play anything, and write easily for instruments such as saxes in Eb, saxes in Bb, french horn in F, trumpet in Bb, trombone etc... I'm sure your so talentuous daughter will not regret. Musically yours. Micha.

I watching this video on my tv right now and WOW. An absolutely amazingly talented 10 year old learning a song from scratch and getting to play it in less than an hour. She is such a sweet, clever, smart, and happy child. And she loves hanging with her dad. U guys share a treasure of a relationship through the music. I remember when I used to teach kids her age to play guitar, they often would silently sigh because they longed to rather be out having fun in the sun. But she seems to love the learning process. Even if it is difficult. She has to make those child fingers manage difficult passages with a grown-up bass guitar. And she does it with smiles, joy and laughter. So inspirational to watch. Imagine if this was the way talents like Micheal Jacksons were raised? How different the emotional outcome would have been? Excellent fatherhood.
