- The 1989 Jeep YJ gets the new 5.3 LS and turbo 350 installed for the first time. The new Novack conversions motor mounts for this LS swap came in handy. We also announce our new sponsor, Griffin Radiator and we are very excited for this partnership.
Huge thanks to Lucky Costa from Hot Rod Garage who helped support us on the wild project. Now we need to finish this so we can go to LS Fest West in Las Vegas.

Worst mistake with the welder is running it off a long extension cord that's to small in diameter. It is always best to plug in the welder directly to a outlet but if that's not possible try to keep the extension cord short as possible and the thickest gauge wire possible
100% agree!! In the next episode we fixed this problem and took your advice! Thank you so much for your comments!
THANK YOU GRIFFIEN RADIATORS!!!!
The grinder and paint makes me the welder that i ain't : ]
💯 lets just say we tack welded it really good. Calling in the expert to inspect the penetration of our welds :)
If you use a mig setup with 75% argon and 25% co2 gas instead of a flux core setup your welds will be light years better. But you also have to use solid core wire. I like the .35 wire. Awesome job anyway. Like everyone else you learn a lot through trial and error.
Thanks for watching and taking the time share your expertise. Our next welding project will be much better!
I don't remember what shit welder it was at Harbor Freight but they made a Snap-on welder as well. I ordered the whip and Bottle attachments from them for cheap. Best $200 welder i ever had.
I like to weld everything in my Yj with mine 220 v Miller good penetration n strong other than that man you guys did a
Beautiful swap
Thanks!!!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I LOVE EVERYTHING!!!!
THANK YOU, NOVAK,!!!!
Good work guys! Getting close!
BackYardYonkes thanks buddy!! Very soon!!
Man i can't wait to see that slinging mud and sending rocks and swamp bogs high in the sky. lol
Its going to be some crazy fun!!!!
How did you guys route the power steering lines from the stock pump to the steering box? Any modifications needed?
Thanks for the video I have a 93 model.Thinking of doing the same thing? How did you get the Speedometer to work?Did you have to change it or get a different cable or adapter
We went with digital gauges and the speedo was gps. Check out Holley
Have fun running your engine over when the welds break 😂. I bought a yj with a 350 swap and had to redo the welds. They were pretty sketchy looking. Yalls honestly look better than what I had. I've pipelined for 10 years and change. That's something Im finicky about.
#sketchyjeep
@@gasratzcustoms sketchy gives it character. Gotta love learning in the moment. Some future advice from me would be to watch some youtube videos on welding. Even though that's my trade I still brush up on other peoples knowledge. I have learned quite a bit just from youtube. Anyways, like the project. Yours seems better off than mine. Love that console. That's pretty nifty.
Thanks! It’s all about learning in the moment here at Gasratz!
Im looking at doing the exact same thing to my 88 YJ in the near future.
Awesome!!!!! We would love to see another LS swapped YJ!
So I take it you’re not going to use your 4x4 system? What trans would work for someone that wants to run an LS with the 4x4? And what driveshaft are you going to use?
If you wanted to the 4x4 swap. Contact Novak Conversions, they specialize in this and have adapters for almost all stock jeep transmissions.
For me I’m making a little street strip Jeep, I’m gunna use a shortened drive shaft I got from a friend. I know the rear end isn’t gunna last long so I’m not investing in a good driveshaft just yet.
Came over from Canadian bubba. I enjoying your posting. so I'm subscribing. Keep it up. loving it.
😎👍Regards Michael.
Thanks man! Means the world to us. We are having fun and I’m glad to see you enjoy watching!
Thanks for subscribing it really helps us out and means a ton. We hope you enjoy our shenanigans
Nice Build! I have a 6.0 LQ4 in my YJ. with TH350 and NP205. I see you kept it SUA. What size tires you have on her, 33's? Did you have any issues with your pinion angles? I went SOA and had to slide the rear axle back an inch and the motor forward an inch. Had to run double cardan joints in each shaft. Hope you are not keeping that truck oil pan! They are low. I really like your rig! Good work.
We took lots of measurements to make sure we got the pinion angel right. So far it feels good!
new to your channel, are you gonna make this thing 4x4? because that is def a 2wd transmission
Cappsford ! Thanks for subscribing!! For now its a 2 wheel drive street monster. !!! When this transmission blows up we will do something a little different
You guys are good, and fun to watch. I've got the same Novak engine mounts for a 5.3 in my CJ. Novak instructions for the CJ call for the wider mount to go on the passenger side. I thought it was interesting that the mounts are reversed for the YJ. Keep up the good work.
Thanks we really appreciate that! We are just having fun messing with our builds. Thanks for the support
That's because CJ front axle differential is offset to the opposite side compared to YJ and later jeeps.
On your build you guys didn't have a transfer case????
No transfer case
Which cables do you use for that type of headers?
Killer ride man!
Thanks!!!!!
