I was a friend of Paul Leka. I used to go up to the Mansion with Paul when he first purchased it. I used to work on his Bricklin. He used to park it in the Carriage House. The Mansion needed a lot of work in the beginning. I remember the first time he showed me it. We went from room to room. Each room had a cord you could pull and it would ring in the kitchen , to summon a maid. I remember the Rolling Stones wanted to rent it for a week.. Paul was a great guy and a good friend. . I miss him. It was a shock when I found out he passed. He worked hard on that Mansion. As a matter of fact, The hit song from Steam, " Na Na Na Na Goodbye " is my cousin , Gary DeCarlo . I remember were our friendship started. At Connecticut Recording Studio. Those were the days of Harry Chapin., The cats in the cradle. I'm sure where ever you are Paul, your still making people smile. You are missed my friend. It was a privilege knowing you. Your friend Vic DiBiagio. God Bless
As an unknown English band living in The US '89 - '90. We persuaded Geffen Records in Manhattan to give us some Demo time. They sent us up to The Mansion to record. The place was pretty run down but still retained all of its original features,it was owned by Paul Leka, who was quite a character. The entrance hall floor was all stone, what really freaked us out was the stone altar in the middle of the hallway and the large inverted crucifix hanging above it. True story. We recorded the demo's which unfortunately Geffen passed on, but we managed to play at the legendary CBGB's, then under the watchful eye of "Hillie", who was a great guy and really liked our music.
