    The device is suitable, and in general, I am satisfied with the monitor, but the product support is fragile, the software is raw. Under Ubuntu 20.04, the drivers are not working, the manufacturer said that I need to configure Udev manually, but I have been waiting for instructions for ten days. Under Windows, the situation is a little better. The software periodically closes itself. In the standard mode, when there are a lot of pictures on the screen, the image trembles very much when the mouse is moved. Sometimes on reboot, the monitor breaks in checkered stripes that disappear only after a few hours when the screen is fully updated. These are all firmware glitches, and the manufacturer is in no hurry to roll out a new one. I repeat, the monitor is cool, but for such a price - absolutely raw software, unfinished. I advise you not to rush into the purchase to save your nerves. Buy only when everyone's bugs finish!

    Have we been able to get touch control function to work with MacOS?
    Assuming that the LED lighting can be turned off completely, will the screen be viewable in bright sun?
    If user opts for the large 25" Pro monitor, what would be the best webcam?
    Additionally, Do we anticipate any major shortcomings (small size, low dpi, the above...anything else) will have been addressed with a new hardware or software release? Signs that the pricing will come down? Any competitors aside from Dasung?

Unfortunately for Boox, in all their current (and previous years') devices, their screen contrast is not as good as the latest Kindles, (.. been there, done that ..) and it doesn't work for me. The characters, icons, images, etc., are just too washed out for my taste, compared to the Kindle (like the latest Oasis for example).

    In my opinion, making eNote as an external monitor could have been done as a software feature even today on devices that have USB C connection plus on-screen refresh/brightness/contrast control. It doesn't make a lot of sense to have an external ePaper monitor at this price point.

  • @electrolove9538
    @electrolove9538 2 года назад +1

    Voya thanks so much for this and all your reviews. 1st thing I'm sad on is the problem with darkmode. Why is it not recommended as you said? Will it wreck the monitor, or will it just not be very good? When looking your Safari browser in dark mode @55:50 it seemed it was a bit grey, and some extreme ghosting. Was this what you found?
    2nd is it possible to use with a stylus for note taking? Have you ever tried this?
    Looks like a great unit otherwise. 🙂

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  2 года назад

      Yeah, the dark mode causes so much ghosting that it becomes borderline unusable, most of e-Ink screens behave like that when they need to exhibit some kind of performance and not have a full screen refresh per screen change.
      As for the pen input, it doesn't have a Wacom layer, so it's not EMR pen compatible.

      @@MyDeepGuide Hi Voya, just about to buy one of these (I think). Thanks for your help with your videos. 😍👍 But I came across something I don't understand on the Onyx Boox Mira page, there is a table in specificatons that says MacOS "suggested" resolution is 1600 x 1200, and Windows "suggested" is 1400 x 1050. Yet the actual screen res as you mention is 2200 x 1650. Can you explain why they would have a lesser suggested res than the actual display res? Interestingly, they have the identical low "suggested" res for the much bigger 25.3" Mira Pro too. 🤔

    Would you still recommend to buy this display now, July 2024? For these requirements: use a second display, for MacOS, primarily for reading text, coding in VSCode, heavily using Terminal (black background and white characters) ? Thanks in advance.

    • @jacksonier

      Ou, at 40:52 - "for coding I tend to use Dark Theme, but it is not recommended"

    Hello, two questions concerning Windows platform are bugging me and I was hoping that you could have an answer to them:
    1. Using a laptop, does Mira extend or duplicate the laptop display?
    As a programmer, I would probably require two displays of this size, one for the code, one for previews, one for the console... Which leads me to the second question -
    2. Have you tried plugging in multiple miras? If so, does the touch functionality work, is the latency still good?
    Another use case would be plugging them into a docking station, which we also expect to work for modern displays...
    Your reviews are great, I do thank you for them!

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  Год назад

      Hi!
      1. Orientation is set in Windows under the display panel, so you can set it to portrait or landscape, like any other screen.
      2. I only ever had 1 unit on loan as a review unit, so I never had a chance to test two of them, but I see no reason why a number of them would be affected? They are just displays, as long as your GPU can support the number of displays and total pixels drawn, you'll be good, although, I wouldn't feed two screens with power from a laptop, 5hay can damage the battery.
      Ultimately, these are just displays, so they'll work like any other display, as long as you feed the the right type of signal and power to keep em happy.
      Thanks for watching!

Have you tried increasing the whiteness to tuen the gray into white? Is it possible, or will it just explode the rest of the constant too much?

      @@MyDeepGuide well, it's flickering on "all" of the grey areas which are currently displaying on the screen, whenever you're moving a cursor, or there's something (even it's just a little) animated on the screen. On PC or Intel-based Mac, the grey area will be flickering specifically where or around the cursor, not the whole screen. Boox seemed to be aware of this issue so they released the v1 firmware addressing on the 'jitter problem on Mac with M1 chip' and introduced "Anti-shake Automatically" option. But I don't think that helps much.
      Turning the grey areas into black, as in Text Mode, or exploding them into white does getting rid of the problem as it's only specific to shades of grey - but, well, you can only work with Text only in this kind of settings. The Video Mode doesn't have that flickering problem too, but the overall resolution is really degraded.

      @@panin.s Hello, does this happen using hdmi (with hdmi adapter connected to MAC) Or just usb-c cable direct connection? Also in all screen modes and resolutions (besides b&w text mode)? Any chance you could make a video to show the issue? I'm considering this display but the issue could be a dealbreaker if it is unpleasant to watch. I don't care about videos, rather typing various things and browsing web (rather slow content), but the black and white text mode may not be suitable fix for me...

    • @panin.s
      @panin.s 2 года назад +1

      @@yoba1450 It also happens on HDMI connection. The video mode is the only one that's working fine, however, this mode is only good for video, all the texts are barely readable. I even tried casting a screen from my Mac to dongles (Airplay, Chromecast) connected with Mira via HDMI but the flickering is still there.
      My recommendation is that, for Mac M1 users, you cannot use Boox Mira as your main screen involving shuffling with various Apps, because there’s a high chance you’ll be annoyed with the flickering on Apps with dark colors. BUT, if your intention is to use Boox Mira for a specific app, it might works, because you can adjust the App’s UI (couple with settings on Mira) to wash out all the dark colors as much as possible to avoid flickering.
      Here’re the videos demonstrating the flickering issue, https -> THTH dot TO / boox-mira

      @@panin.s Thanks a lot for the description and videos. This is unfortunately not really acceptable for me for the money. I have to switch between various apps during my work. It's really mind boggling that the same happens via dongles too, they should have the same output for any wireless source 🤔

    Can any of the other Boox devices such as the Tab Ultra or Lumi be used as a connected e-ink monitor? I suppose not...

      Lumi 1 yes, as it has a mini HDMI port (if I recall correctly), all other devices can be used as wireless monitors, if you use an appropriate app, such as SpaceDesk or Super Monitor.

      No, but some displays support the function of retaining the last image when you press their power button. So effectively they turn off, and keep the last image displayed, even when disconnected.

    Don’t buy this guys.
    It works for MacOS with Intel fine but it does not mirror my iPad/iPhone as they had advertised on their website.
    Yes, I was using the original Apple Lightning AV adapter and connected USB C as additional power, etc. all kinds of permutation nothing happens similar to someone else in this comments section saying he can’t connect his Android.
    I thought this thing would have many practical uses but no. The price is now glaringly steep for my use case.
    Only buy it if you’re using it for MacOS running Intel chip.
    Edit:
    I got it to work with iPhone / iPad. Use the cables they provided. It is a bit tricky here. You need to ensure the iOS device is powered up first before connecting the device otherwise it wont mirror. What I mean is connect the Boox to a dedicated power source first via USB-C. Then iPhone/iPad has to make use of the HDMI cable and a third party adapter.

      I could now use the Boox with iPhone/iPad.
      Great setup just cumbersome with the wires. You could open PDFs and read them on the Boox.
