Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery Movie Description:
Tech billionaire Miles Bron invites his friends for a getaway on his private Greek island. When someone turns up dead, Detective Benoit Blanc is put on the case.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is a 2022 American mystery film written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Johnson and Ram Bergman. It is the sequel to the 2019 film Knives Out, with Daniel Craig reprising his role as master detective Benoit Blanc as he takes on a new case revolving around a tech billionaire and his old friends. The ensemble cast includes Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista.
Johnson had considered the idea of several films featuring the Benoit Blanc character prior to the first film's release. A sequel was greenlit by its original distributor Lionsgate in 2020, but in March 2021 Netflix bought the rights to two Knives Out sequels for $469 million. The cast signed on that May. Filming took place on the island of Spetses, Greece, in June and July 2021, and continued elsewhere until September.
Following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2022, Glass Onion began a one-week limited theatrical release on November 23, 2022, receiving the widest theatrical release ever for a Netflix film and grossed $15 million against a $40 million budget. Netflix began streaming it on December 23.
Similar to Knives Out, Glass Onion received critical acclaim, with praise for its screenplay, direction, performances (particularly those of Craig, Norton, Monáe and Hudson), and musical score, and was named one of the best films of 2022 by the National Board of Review.

One of the easiest reasons you can tell Miles is the killer, is that when Helen / Andi shows up on the dock, all the Disruptors are a bit surprised to see her. When she gets off the ship, Miles Bron looks like he's seen a ghost. Vastly different levels of shock/surprise.

I've seen people call it a "plothole" that he sent Andi a box. Two simple explanations for that happening.
1} No one was supposed to know she was dead. If he always sent an invite and suddenly did not, it would look odd.
1} There might be a long lead time getting the boxes made. He said his puzzle guy barely has time to make the five boxes. Andi's box would also have already been made, and they were probably sent right from the puzzle maker's shop.

i just watched this movie for the third time yesterday and i finally noticed that the entire time helen's hair was parted a different way than andi's, sort of to continue the idea that she wasn't who everyone thought she was. you know a murder mystery is good when you can still rewatch it and be entertained by all the new stuff you find. great reaction mell!
edit: watching your reaction i connected it to another comment i saw about how the ending look from helen is framed to look like the mona lisa but in actuality for the entire movie whenever you saw her give like a sultry look towards the camera she was imitating the mona lisa. and it's crazy because just like miles said that the mona lisa's face changes every time you look at it, in every scene helen gave the same look but it was the plot that decided the emotion being portrayed behind her stare. ughhh, i freaking LOVE going back and dissecting this stuff!!!!!

Re: your question about why the Mona Lisa is so popular - having seen it in person, I can confirm that her expression really does seem to change in subtle ways that cameras can't quite capture: when viewed from slightly different angles (or out the corner of your eye) it suddenly looks like she's smiling fully, then looks like she's sad, then looks like she's serious or even angry. It all has to do with realllly subtle layering of colors and brushstrokes in the contouring around her mouth and eyes.

Blanc is the audience in this movie. He's overthinking it and making it so complicated. And while doing so he overlooks what really is in front of him because it's so dumb. This is why he actually overlooks the fact that Helen suggest miles right away. But Blanc says it can't be Miles, because he is a genius and too smart to kill Andy right now.
Also if you look at the check board that Helen makes for motives and opportunity. Miles is up the top of the list with a M and O in the boxes instead of leaving it empty for the tally mark. Sneakily showing Miles had both motive and opportunity

Two things quickly sun up Miles' character. Or lack thereof.
1} He has a cure/preventative for the Coof that works with one oral dose and instead of helping the world, he uses it to let a handful of people visit his island.
2} He way too casually tosses Paul McCarthy's guitar aside after using it for a prop for a few seconds.

I think the twist was better in this movie but because I was expecting a twist, it didn't land the same way the fist one did. Fun fact: the dude who played Daryl also played the fanboy white cop in Knives Out. Also a really cool detail is that a bunch of the statues in Miles' living room reference lyrics in the song Glass Onion. One of those lyrics is "A fool on the hill." That ends up being where the override switch is because Miles' is a fool on a hill.

I think it’s so cool because blanc is the audience in many ways. The first one he is kind of aloof and like this is another case (us: another murder mystery) and now we’ve been waiting for the next one, but this time we are going to be ready for all the clues and details to figure out this twist next case. But as it turns out we were too invested to think smaller. To think of the case as a glass onion.
I still think the first one is so much better, but this was in no way a disappointment.

Actually, the Mona Lisa didn't used to be that popular. Of DaVinci's paintings, it would hardly have been in any art historian's top 5, *until* it was stolen in 1911 (it was recovered about a year later). Newspapers around the world reported on it, with many of them showing a picture of it as well. Since then it's been the most famous painting ever.

Why is the Mona Lisa the most famous painting in the world? We could talk about Da Vinci's technique, or the mystery behind the identity of the person in the portrait (who was only ID'd about 20 years ago)...
....but that's not why it's the most famous painting in the world. It's the most famous painting in the world because it was stolen in a high profile heist 100 years ago, and it was missing for years before the culprit was caught and arrested. The crime made it THAT famous.

About the Mona Lisa, it's popularity is pretty funny story.
Basically at first no one cared for it, so a guy stole it from the Louvre, and it took a while for people to realize it was missing, because it wasn't considered important.
But then newspapers began to talk about the disappearance, and people began to follow the investigation like it was a weekly series. And when they finally brought it back, everyone wanted to see the painting that made the news.
That's how it became a popular painting

  • @seamusburke639
    @seamusburke639 Год назад +2

13:15 I can tell you exactly why the Mona Lisa is considered so valuable; it was stolen.
Three Italian handymen just walked out of the Louvre with it in 1911. Before that, the painting was only appreciated in art circles, not by the general public. Nobody even noticed it was gone for over a day.
And even when they began investigating the theft, it became more about national identity. DaVinci was Italian, but the Mona Lisa had ended up in a French museum. And there were concerns that Americans had tried to steal it, or even Kaiser Wilhelm in Germany. In the end, the thieves were busted trying to sell it two years later to a collector.
In the end, that makes Miles' appreciation ironic; he talks a lot about the brush technique or the mysterious smile, but in the end, he wants the Mona Lisa because it's famous and he wants to be famous too.
