The primary difference between the radiator setups in an automatic Mazda RX-8 and a manual Mazda RX-8 lies in the presence of transmission cooler lines. Automatic transmissions require additional cooling, so they have transmission cooler lines that run through the radiator to dissipate heat. Manual transmissions, on the other hand, don't have this feature.
When installing a racing radiator into an automatic Mazda RX-8 without transmission cooler lines, you'll typically bypass the transmission cooler in the radiator and install a separate transmission cooler. This involves routing the transmission fluid through an external cooler, which is common in performance setups to improve cooling efficiency.
Here's a general guide for installing a racing radiator into an automatic Mazda RX-8:
Drain Coolant: Begin by draining the coolant from the radiator.
Disconnect Hoses: Disconnect the hoses connected to the radiator, including the upper and lower radiator hoses.
Remove Electric Fans: If your RX-8 has electric radiator fans, remove them.
Unbolt Radiator: Unbolt the radiator from its mounting brackets and carefully remove it from the vehicle.
Install Racing Radiator: Install the racing radiator in place of the stock radiator, ensuring a proper fit.
Transmission Cooler Installation: If your racing radiator doesn't have integrated transmission cooler lines, install a separate transmission cooler. Connect the transmission cooler lines to the appropriate ports on the transmission.
Connect Hoses: Connect the upper and lower radiator hoses to the new racing radiator.
Reinstall Electric Fans: If you removed electric fans, reinstall them onto the new radiator.
Refill Coolant: Refill the cooling system with the appropriate coolant.
Test Run: Start the car and monitor for any leaks. Ensure that both the engine and transmission temperatures stay within the recommended ranges.
Keep in mind that specific steps may vary based on the brand and model of the racing radiator you choose. Always refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the radiator and transmission cooler for the most accurate installation guidance.

My RX8 has the transmission oil cooler installed behind the condenser and it seems to work very well.
