I watched this series before finding this edit, and I can confirm it's great. I highly recommend watching it if you have some free time and haven't already.
This is literally me. I am a 27 year old scientist working in a top secret research facility in new Mexico, wearing a high impact reactive armour suit with a security guard friend who owes me a alcoholic beverage...
Gordon Freeman, Barney Calhoun, and Adrian Shephard were all genuinely good men who were forced into a situation none of them were ready or capable of dealing with. Freeman watched the Resonance Cascade unfold on ground zero by his hand, Barney being devoted to his job tried to save as many fellow workers as he could, and Cpl. Shephard was sent as the execution but ultimately fought to protect and serve everyone trapped within the facility against overwhelming odds. Freeman was frozen in stasis to be sent later to fight the Combine, Barney made it out unscathed and joined the Resistance, and Cpl. Shephard’s fate remains unknown. None of them could catch a break for the life of them and are now forced to continue the fight for God knows how long. I really hope one day all three men (and perhaps even Chell’s tie-in to the HL Universe) will join forces and finally get rest
The forgotten " Sigma " characters. But tbh not too long ago i saw the many sfm animations 'bout Gordon and how sad his life actually is and its actually made me realize how much deep this character actually is, and this edit is just a beautiful cherry on the top. We always talk about how Gordon Freeman ment to be like us, an everday person, the right man in the wrong place. But not a lot of people talk about how depressing his life actually is.
Its kinda crazy to think about how the entire black mesa situation and the combine taking over the world all took place in like 3 days for Gordon. Poor guy cant even make friends if he wanted to, if they didnt die in front of him they'd probably have died by the time he comes back from stasis.
Freeman must be moving on pure instinct at the point of HL2 being put into constant life threatening situations, 1 traumatic event can mess a person up, and Gorden went trough weeks of non stop continuous trauma. even if the combine falls he'd probably never live a happy life again...
If i suddenly got released by an inter-dimensional being into the future and realized i indirectly helped in the enslavement of mankind then i gonna be depressed as hell.
I honestly agree with the person they chose to play Gordon freeman, forgot his real name, but the only downside, for me, is that he's not wearing the version of glasses that Gordon wore and it makes him look weird
I can see the three characters being quite literally some of us, as Gordon was just a man doing his job who tried to fight the threat head on and ending with unforseen consequences, Barney instead chose to flee the Black Mesa research facility yet he was still just doing his job as a guard at Black Mesa and Adrian is still a human character as he didn't hear the order of killing the Black Mesa staff he thinks its a rescue mission, and when he is without his squad he works with the scientists who are distrusting of him to survive

Adrian Shephard is me with every trait.
This is genuinely better than the literally me characters, don't get me wrong, I like the characters from those movies in their prospective which are classics. But I don't like how guys just start thinking they're them but actually they're not, this delusion gives their ballooned ego and makes them look like incels and losers.
@@imnotaracistokay Nope, not that even close. Here's what I can best summarized why are they relatable, it's because three of these protagonist went through hell, which you might guess is a phase most of people experience once or more in their lives.
The protagonists are all normal people thrown into crazy as fuck situations. They're relatable because they're not hyper emotional wrecks living in a dystopia, they just happened to be doing their job on the wrong day.
This reminds me of the possible amount of trauma gordon probably developed over the course of half-life 1. Seriously though glad to see this get more recognition.

Half life and OpFor and Blue Shift symbolise the story of 3 men that keep going to complete their missions, seeing chaos that is around them and seeing their colleagues dying. It shows that no matter what happens, we must push forward and accomplish our goals.
Can't stop thinking about the fact that the entirety of Half Life 1 and 2 unfolds in about a week and a half from Gordon's perspective. Mans saved the world twice without missing a beat.
