    For people who wonder why this is such a good board, I encourage you to look at the last two minutes of the piece, where it all comes together. You will see that the width of the space for the blade is adjustable, from narrow to a full dado head. This is a true innovation by Young Je. Second innovation: There is a rail along the top of the back guide for a stop (nothing new, of course); the clever addition in Young Je's sled is that the back rail can be extended by a foot or so. So you can make repetitive, accurate cuts of long pieces without the weight of a wide sled.

      yeah.. i had to watch it twice to figure out why the sled needed to be adjusted,, the dado blades made the difference.

    this is, in my opinion, the best sled on RUclips because it's highly functional for a variety of tasks, requires actual skill to build and makes use of things you might already have around the house. It's not just a piece of MDF with a bunch of sponsored Kreg gimmicks slapped on it like so many others.

    There are a ton of table saw sleds that can be built but this one is by far the most practical, functional, and within the capability of most woodworkers. Excellent job Young Je and thanks for sharing this video!

    It really shows that you have hundreds of hours of table saw experience...Or it looks that way anyway. I'm sure people will comment about safety but I can see that you are highly skilled and know exactly how to use a table saw. Oh and the sled is amazing and I notice how solidly it is built. Thanks for sharing!

    Have you any plans for sale, you could sell alot for this particular table saw jig.

    I have just started watching Young's videos and he is obviously an old hand at it!! I read the comments about the lack of safety etc, and in no way would recommend a newbie to follow suit!!! BUT it is as obvious as the nose on my face that the skill and knowledge here is decades in the making and the thought and ideas are fantastic!!!

    At first I didn't understand the right side sliding adjustment, but it all became clear at the end when you used it to adjust for a dado set kerf. Awesome job. Like others, I would like to make one. Have you made the plans available yet? I know most of us could just wing-it and make one with our own measurements, but plans would make the project quicker. Looking forward to seeing more of your project videos.

  • @barsoom43

    I have probably watched this video 50 times or more.. I took careful notes and estimated the measurements. I just finished making my own copy of this sled.. It is great. Thanks Young Je. I was skeptical about the plastic blade guard but went ahead with it anyway.. it works great. I put my T track forward on the front fence allowing me room for self adhesive tape measures. For now, I am not using the flip up stop block.

    • @mattprzybylski19
      @mattprzybylski19 5 лет назад

      Would you mind sharing your estimate approximations of the other parts? I was just about to watch the video over and over until I got the same thing but came to the comments looking for this exact thing thinking someone already did it (and it seems that you have). Greatly appreciated.

    That's a solid sled! Surely will be long lasting with the build quality AND the adjustable throat. I guess that when it gets chewed up you can just close it up and re-cut. Most excellent!

      @douglashaner6802 4 года назад

      i agree. i like the idea of inserts but think they would be a pain to remove and install when one is busy. this looks like one can make a fast adjustment as needed. your post is 1 year old, did you make this sled? does it work for you?

  • @clydedecker765
    @clydedecker765 7 лет назад +5

    You have my undying admiration .. now for one little suggestion. Buy a plastic cutting board and make a track runner from it to replace the hardwood you used and then there will never be a problem with wood expansion and contraction making the sled hard to move. True perfection in your design.

    • @Steve-yk7iu
      @Steve-yk7iu 5 лет назад

      I think I've watched every friggin' crosscut sled video on RUclips & this was the only one that made it clear to wax the runner immediately after installing it on the sled. If you wax the hardwood, and maintain it, it won't be a problem.

  • @patmac
    @patmac 5 лет назад

    Great video.. This sled is so very practical for the woodworker. I have been researching sleds and have found there are a zillion ways to make them... but most are single use. You have to have 5 different ones for the various cuts. Your design allows me to have only two, maybe... that covers all my needs. Thanks for this video. I might post my sled once completed... I too will use only one runner... as a properly fitted one is all you need, mount the fence first and then cut the extension free... This will allow me to square it using the 5 cut method and then split the piece left of the blade.

    Im just getting started in all this myself. What are the paper shims for at about 4:05? This is a good video, and a lot easier to build than the laminated MDF sled I just made; this thing still doesn't slide smoothly, and I used HDPE runners. Cant figure out why or where it is binding.

    • @chrispoole8648
      @chrispoole8648 8 лет назад

      Those pieces of paper are there to give it just the slightest gap to allow it to slide when loosened off, but not enough of a gap that there would be slippage in any direction that could cause accuracy issues. It basically makes it so there is no binding on the adjustable piece of the sled.

    A very nice design! Functional and well made! Too bad you don’t show all angles of the finished sled so we can fully understand all aspects of this design…seeing as you don’t offer plans for this build. But perhaps that’s intentional as you don’t want to reveal all your secrets… and that is your right!
    However, thanks for sharing this video.

    The design is well though t out. Love all the options. I am new to cross cut sleds. I wonder if the one miter slot design will hold accuracy. I would have to think more if the right side extras would still be practical if two miter slots are incorporated. Love the sled.
