- In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view filmed on a rainy day on Serra Verde Express train Litorina between the Curitiba and Morretes in 4K/60 frames per second.
At the time of the filming it was raining a lot in the region and although I already published a cab ride on the same line it seems that it is a totally different journey, you can feel the moisture of the Atlantic Rainforest.
The Curitiba - Morretes railway line, operated by the Serra Verde Express group, is a famous tourist train in southern Brazil, which runs from the capital of the state of Paraná, Curitiba, to the city of Morretes, on the coast of the same state. It is one of the best train rides in the world, according to The Guardian and The Wall Street Journal.
The line from Paranaguá to Curitiba is centuries old, having been built between 1880 and 1884. The work was divided into three parts: Paranaguá-Morretes, Morretes-Roça Nova and Roça Nova-Curitiba. The railroad was designed by the first black engineers in Brazil, the Rebouças brothers. The construction, headed by engineer João Teixeira Soares, was a milestone in Brazilian engineering, as it involved crossing the Serra do Mar, an inhospitable territory of closed forest, with no access and full of mountains.
This narrow-gauge railroad is single-track and departs from the metropolis of Curitiba, 934 meters above sea level. This train journey passes through beautiful forests and rolling hills and travels alongside sparkling rivers and lakes. A British writer gave this description of the line in 1917: "The summit is reached at 952 meters after a 40-km. rise.... The track of 1-metre gauge winds cleverly up a series of foothills and side spurs, finishing with a tight-rope performance along the upper Serra cliffs on viaducts which stick out over sheer drops of 305 meters. The line has hardly 50 metres of track without a curve, and the views seaward are particularly fine."
The approximately four-hour journey on the Serra Verde Express train takes passengers through 13 tunnels and over 30 bridges, including the Viaduto do Carvalho, with views of the vibrant green rainforest all the way. It is the most beautiful train ride in Brazil and takes you into the heart of the largest Atlantic Rainforest reserve in the world.

A linha férrea Curitiba Paranaguá Morretes foi inaugurada em 1883 levou 5 anos para ser terminada e o passeio dura 3 horas entrando floresta a dentro da nossa famosa serra do mar vários trechos sobre a rocha foi dinamitado e construído com mão de obra braçal na época da corrida do café escoando a safra de café e açúcar que vinha do todo o Brasil rumo a porto de Paranaguá a serra da mar foi a primeira floresta atlântica onde se descobriu ouro no Brasil e ainda restam bastante remanescentes de minas abandonadas dentro das montanhas eu moro na cidade de onde o trem parte para serra passa próximo a minha casa se ouve a buzina da cobra de ferro no interior do Brasil ainda restam locomotiva a vapor que fazem passeios de tirar o fôlego de qualquer um as malhas ferroviárias do Brasil são muito antiga centenárias algumas tombadas pelo patrimônio histórico cultural do Brasil

@@RailRelaxation por supuesto que sí, sin exagerar fue un descubrimiento inesperado pero sumamente grato que por supuesto no quiero demostrar lástima pero sufro de crisis de pánico porque además del tratamiento que sigo está experiencia me ayudó más de lo que crees y para los que tengan algún tipo de crisis o algún tipo similar de crisis recomiendo que junto al tratamiento tome se un tiempo y prueben este método y de corazón espero que también les ayude como a mi, un abrazo y muchas gracias

It's impossible to be in a hurry on this train ride with a maximum speed of only 45kph.... All of your videos are excellent... and I'm a fan... I actually thought you were a senior railway official with such access possible... It is also interesting as I'm a retired Train Driver (from UK) I had no idea until watching your videos that there was such an extensive metre gauge (mostly freight) railway network in Brazil, with absolutely enormous freight trains and unusual double-bogie locomotives to haul them. You're also correct about this being a completely different video from the sunny weather one you posted recently of the same route...
@bigcasey4143 You are right, it is impossible to be in a hurry. The passenger train that I took is a tourist train and you get to enjoy the views while sipping your favourite drink...😊In Brazil there are mainly one metre gauge and broad gauge. Very little passenger transport and quite a lot of freight transport. I am not working on railway, I am just a railway fan who loves to travel and enjoy filming very much. I want to go to the UK and film some of the lines there too. Thank you for your comment. I am glad that you enjoy this channel. I wish you a nice evening and a nice Sunday!
Sadly, I don't expect that you'll be able to get any access to make in-cab videos in UK... The driver's cab is a highly restricted area and there are strict rules about who can travel in/have access to driving cabs... but this hasn't stopped you from getting them in other countries! Best of luck, but be prepared to be disappointed...

There's several trekking trails through the mountains around this track.
One in particular called Caminho do Itupava ("Itupava Way"), crosses the tracks at two points, one being around the Our Lady of Cadeado Chapel and lookout, and gets close to some stations. It goes through a 22 km trail in the forest, opened by Amerindians and miners between 1625 and 1654, crossing several rivers. It used to be much bigger and connect Curitiba to the coast at old times, but due to later road constructions it now only remains from halfway onwards.
It's a tough trail, specially for the knees, since it's mostly downward on a slippery rock and muddy path. But it's totally worth it.
The big mountains around also have amazing trails with camping spots and astonishing views, but also require good physical conditioning.

you can buy a ticket for the passenger train and enjoy the landscape, with a plus of visiting Morretes which is a colonial city with a lot of its portuguese architecture preserved.

Fiz esse percurso pela linha, andando a pé pelos trilhos, saindo do morro Anhangava, passei pelos tuneis e pontes todos a pé, foi uma das, ou talvez a coisa mais legal que ja fiz até hoje. Eu tinha uns 10 anos de idade, hoje estou com 27 e irei fazer novamente essa trilha.

I deliberately checked this video, because I was fascinated by your previous Curitiba - Morretes video filmed in sunny weather. The line is scenic and both videos are fantastic. In this video, I especially liked those tiny waterfalls along the line. Is it safe for trains to operate under such weather conditions? Thank you so much!
@mikhails2883 I find both videos so different just because of dramatic change of the weather. This one was actually filmed first, and on the next day the weather was completely different. I am glad that you liked them.

Yes, brake tenders, the low flat topped vehicle immediately behind the locos. These are specially weighted vehicles which are used to augment the braking force of the loco. They were used in the UK also when some freight wagons were not fully braked @@joseaugusto-zo2vr

and where did you get this stupidity from? these are godmother carriages they are used so that the locomotives don't throw the carriages out of the curve because of the length of the locomotives it has nothing to do with brakes as I know this as I work on the course and the UK system doesn't It has nothing to do with Brazilians here and Brazil
Thank you for your eloquent reply. I see the Brazilian system works differently, possibly due to the meter gauge track? This dynamic does not exist on UK railways, and towed or propelled vehicles of this appearance were in use here for the reasons I stated, hence my comment. I notice also your locos have four bogies each, again something I have not seen elsewhere. @@joseaugusto-zo2vr
