    Despite others comments I think the moderator did great. It is his job to have the topics covered in the allotted time and sometimes that requires intervention to keep things moving. As he said in the beginning, this was not intended to be a detailed presentation but a general overview thus the title Motor Oil 101.

    I worked for 35 years in motor oil development and testing, including lots of work for Shirley Schwartz. Lake Speed is right on! A very good discussion of motor oils. I wish he had pushed more on the longer drain intervals for regularly used oils, but that's a minor nit-pick. He did a really good job.

    Excellent engine oil primer.. Will stop referring to "W" as in weight; 15W-50 ... Winter it is... My '98 993 3.6l runs better already.

    It is true that US regulation change and Mobil oil is better to get from europe so you get the good oil that does not damage your engine. ??

    • @PorscheClubofAmerica
      @PorscheClubofAmerica  4 года назад

      Even the European specs change. The current Mobil 0W-40 ESP formulation is a very good oil.

    A year later, maybe Lake Speed would do a '201' of this talk, with a tighter agenda and time for questions after the talk. I for one would like a slightly deeper dive. I know these things don't come together overnight.
    For the viewers, there are lot's of other resources available if the topic interests viewers deeply - ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=engine+oil+presentation. And tons of reading. There's too much FUD out there w regards to oil. I change my oil every 6 months and spend the money on UOA, my car is prone to bore scoring, M96.1. So far, so good, at 97K miles.
    I've spent my career doing presentations and learning the 'art' of listening and moderating. I think it was decidedly unfair to label Vu as clumsy and amateurish. No need for name calling. Words can hurt people. Constructive feedback good. Slander, bad. Just be kind.

    Brilliant expert wasted by clumsy moderator and amateurish presentation. Let the guy at least answer your questions fully before you race to the next topic. Suggestion: cut the slides, and other extraneous distractions and use the allotted time to get complete answers. Like: what's he thinks is the appropriate oil change interval.

    • @PorscheClubofAmerica
      @PorscheClubofAmerica  4 года назад +1

      Appreciate the feedback Junior. We had a lot of content to get through in an hour. Will certainly try to improve in future episodes.

    • @overbuiltlimited
      @overbuiltlimited 4 года назад

      Exactly! Very poor presentation. Stopping the guest’s answer in the middle to remind people to enter some silly giveaway? Very frustrating.
      Also the moderators comments are almost always a worthless waste of time. Moderator says he’s concerned about time. Well then the moderator should ask the question, get the answer and then ask the next question. That’s it. We don’t need to hear the moderators input/personal stories. This isn’t cars and coffee.
      I have an air cooled car and these PCA videos actually have the effect of discouraging me from joining.

      @@overbuiltlimited You and you buddy there are the kind of superior, entitled $hitheads that gives Porsche owners the reputation of beings a$$holes. Be thankful instead of complaining about free content. Prick.
      Vu disregard those clowns. You're totally awesome and have made really wonderful, informative, and educational videos and I can guarantee you I'm not alone in being grateful for your excellent work.

    • @overbuiltlimited
      @overbuiltlimited 3 года назад +2

      @@kurtandrekhan3091 The idea that because the content is “free” and therefore dissent is not allowed is ridiculous. If the content creator is objective and concerned with making better content then they should be open to constructive criticism.
      Just because the criticism is harsh doesn’t mean it’s not constructive. The OP and I both stated solid opinions on how to improve the content; and unlike you we both did so without resorting to name calling.
      If you’re too soft to read honest criticism without going off the rails then too bad so sad. 🤷🏻‍♂️
      When there are tiny channels like Horsepower Heritage that can pull off an excellent interview format car show, then there really is no excuse for PCA.
      The formula is simple.
      1. Don’t rush though the show. Some shows will run longer, some shorter. Viewers won’t mind as long as it’s about the subject that they are there for and it’s interesting.
      2. Ask questions and don’t interrupt. Take notes to come back to something if you need too, but don’t interrupt.
      3. If the host actually has an interesting story to tell then by all means share it, but don’t waste people’s time with mindless filler that just repeats what your guest just said. Done.

    Synthetic oil in older causes leak because it has smaller molecules and more cleaning detergents. So cleaning sludge and smaller molecules cause leaks if you have bad seals
