The only option I have for LPN is gonna cost me $19,000. They're the only ones that accepted me automatically without pre-reqs and all of the requirements. I'm a CNA. I'm thinking that I'm just gonna go this route. LPN's make way too much money these days, literally, around here its $30 an hour plus. I can at least work and pay off my debt for a while and someday do the RN like you did. I am so proud of you Brandi!

I've literally have 4 weeks left of LPN school. I'm not trying to discourage but encourage anyone who's reading this. I started January 6, 2016 it started off fast paced, intense, and tough. In the summer of 2016, I failed adult Med Serge. While taking Mental and Maternal with clinical and theory. I was very discourage. I don't know if all schools apply, but I had only one attempt to fail, no other options. With God and an awesome support system, I didn't give up I continued into fall semester passing with B in Med Serge. I say that because it was a breeze all of the material was clear and comprehending. January 2017 I started my Spring semester. During spring break I've been keeping myself ahead of the game. Rewinding back a little I completed my clinicals a month early by sacrificing to do 24 hours a week instead of 12 by asking my clinical instructor to do this. (it's good to communicate with your teachers and clinical instructor). I literally have 4 weeks left of school reality is setting in and I'm leaning and depending on God to get me through this. Phillipians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. This is my motto. Nursing school is not easy but stay focused, dodge negativity, and surround yourself with others in positivity. You will make friends and it's good to. You all will need each other (trust me). I'm praying for all of you. Step out on faith. I pray God give you favor with whoever you encounter with on this journey. You will pass, you will succeed, you will become a nurse!

April Hudson My dear, your words were powerful! It gave me chills and moved my spirit. I too, will be a nurse. I'm going to become a CNA, and work while going to school to be an LPN. After that, I'll work as an LPN while going on to be an RN. I think of nurses as being like that certain Samaritan Christ talked about (Luke 10:25-37). Know that Christ not only use us to be there in the greatest moments of life (child birth), and comfort those in the saddest moments (death), but to speak the word of God to those in need, and to show the Spirit of God through our duties as a nurse! I believe that you'll be a great nurse, and I will pray for you and many other nurses/nursing students as well! God Bless!

Grant the White Owl thank you so much. I love the way you have your goals set. I'm excited for you and pray God give you favor with teachers, students, etc. Yes a nurse carries many loads and the amount of work, dedication, constructive criticism is what makes you an awesome nurse. May God continue to bless you. PS continue speaking into the existence of your life.

Constance Daniels Yes I did have to work, but I was terminated for taking off too many days due to school. I was a CNA at my job for 6 years. It was very devastating to know that your own job wouldn't want to see you succeed and better yourself. If your job will work with you, work on the weekends if possible. During the week you will need your study time. Good luck and God bless!

I’m 32 years old, just found out i got accepted into LPN school about a week and. The program takes two years but i don’t care. It’s affordable and I plan to get my RN after I become an LPN.
I‘ve been working as a CNA for 12 years. Tried getting into LPN school before and never made it past the TEAS exam. I didn’t do well this time on the TEAS test again but I poured my heart out during the interview. I’m convinced the director saw my potential because here I am...I’m 27 days away from starting my journey to become an LPN!!!

I was a LPN for 2 years before I went to RN school. I choose LPN first because they get more clinical hours and I don't regret it! My school was only $3k because I did it at a votech. Once I became a LPN I worked at a hospital and then did the career ladder to RN school so it was only a year. Now I'm 5 classes away from my BSN. It's not about how you start the race but how you finish it.

Unicorn Horse community college is significantly cheaper. My local cc is about $5K. But general classes plus the LVN program are really hard to get into where I live. Even if you have all your prerequisites, it’s basically like playing the lottery. If you don’t get picked, you have to try the following year. If you’re lucky, it’d take 2 years at the very least. Private schools know this, so unfortunately they hike up their prices and take advantage. Time is money. So it may cost more up front, but getting done a lot faster might be worth it for some. If you have the time, definitely go the cc route! :)

My wife attends to Cuyahoga Community College and all of her prerequisite were complete prior to being accepted into the program and their was no waiting list at all, please don't stop your education...she failed the Lpn program twice at another school, but I didn't allow her to quit on herself at all, she just complete her first semester in Lpn
This fall I completed chemistry 1010 with an A, in the spring I'll be taking chemistry 1020, then all I have to complete is English 2, Micobiology, Anatomy & Physiology 1&2 and Statistics, then I'll have all my prerequisites for both the A.D.N & BSN will be completed.
Afterward I'll be taking the entrance Hesi A2 exam which I only need to take is the English and Math portion thats required for both the Lpn and R.N. and I must pass the exam with a 75% commutative for either program, I'm doing the A.D.N once I complete the program I'm transferring to Cleveland State University for my B.S.N, which both colleges are right across from one another, makes it super easy when it comes to transportation, skip right across the street...lolo, also Cleveland State University give a $2,000 scholarship when you attend to their B.S.N. program.

I'm currently getting my AA in health science and I'm thinking about either doing a CNA or LPN certificate/licenses. I'm so unsure of what I want to do In life , and like you said some people think Nursing is for them and than a year later want to do something different. I just turned 21 and feel sooo confused and behind on my goals and just life in general. I pray God will tell me what my calling/passion is 😔😔

Many schools here, will have you waiting years before you get in!! Luckily, I was recently accepted into my RN program and start October 30th 2017, and I am super excited!!! You will enter the RN program with a good foundation!! Good luck with your nursing career!!!

You guys have it tough in America. $17,000 to become a nurse? I am in Scotland and i got paid to do my nursing degree! You don't get paid much but you get all your fees paid, uniforms and a bursary towards your living expenses. I qualified 20 years ago and got about £5000 a year. ( Not sure what that is in dollars ) I worked as a nursing assistant while I was studying at university to earn extra money too.

Great information! I decided to apply for LVN because it will be a faster route than RN. I am at a community college but the rn program is so competitive that they tell you to take all science courses individually to make an A in each class. Our RN program bases acceptance upon how high your GPA is in science courses, psych, sociology, and English. There is a point system and you have to make 70 points on the criteria list in order to apply. I have all of my general classes done but it would have taken me another 2 years just for science alone (one class each semester). They only take apps once a year. I don't have time for that. They get over 300 hundred apps each year. One lady told me it took her 4 yrs to do pre-reqs 😲. I am in California and there is no wait list for any programs. You have to reapply each year if you don't get in.

I found a Technical College here in South Florida where the Tuition is $908 per semester (5) so itll be a little under $5000 for the program. I've been going back and forth about just going for my LPN because I did about a 1 1/2 going for my Bachelor's and life got in the way and here I am 3 yrs later now ready to give nursing another shot..I WILL BE A NURSE DAMMIT!! I owe my previous school so they may not release my transcript as well (had to request online) so for me practical nursing is the way to go to get my foot in the door.

Money is the one things that holding me up when it comes to pursing my RN. What state are you in there might be govt programs. I know here in STL you can get something called WIA its like 5,000 towards school for doing job readiness classes. They go by income so if you have kids it helps. But for people like me with a two household income and no kids its tough. But hey the degree afterward will be worth it. Maybe look online and apply for scholarships or find an employer that will help with school.

From what I've seen that's a decent fee for school. I would definitely see about going to a community college for your RN if you choose to go further and also see if your employer will help pay for school. Get as much help as you can for school, cause paying off student loans is no joke. Good luck!

Heyyy , I'm from Saint Louis , MO too .Im shockingly surprise that I stumbled upon this video !!!
(Blessing in disguise??) I feel that I'm behind in life & need better pay ) So I want to go into LPN program at The met Center to get started in the Nursing Field (I'm a phlebotomist now) .. however , my step mom ( who is a Taurus and RN ,so I value her opinion ) said that they give you a lot of patients . And that it's not worth it . To just go through with the BSN . But being that Me and you are around the same age , and I'm feeling the same way you felt . I was hoping you could answer so question . To help me decide. Questions :: about How is it going for you ? Is the pay worth it ? Are there jobs available? Thanks in advance

    • @yourfavnurseb9699
      @yourfavnurseb9699  7 лет назад +1

      Hey gurl!
Im glad another St. Louisian found my channel.
When she says "they give you a lot of patients", is she referring to the school or jobs that hire LPNs?
I work at a large nursing home, so the stress and work load is a lot, but I get a lot of support from my coworkers, plus I've been at my job for 5 years and started as a CNA so it's different for me since I started off already familiar with the facility.
But, is there money to be made? YES, esp since there is a huge nursing shortage and companies are willing to start LPNs off with higher wages. And there is always over time and (my job even offers bonus and double time)
In nursing you will never have to worry about finding a job unless you have something against you on your license and even then some places will still hire you.
If you havent done any prereqs yet, I would say do the Met Center first, and work as an LPN while taking your classes for RN. While in RN school after you finish your first semester, UMSL has a RN to BSN program that you can do one day out of the week while still in RN school.
So there are alot of options, but if you are kind of starting from scratch like I was, LPN first is a great start. The money is good, you will have leg up on other nursing students too because you'll have that clinical exp.
Long response, but let me know if you have any other specific questions, stay positive, at least study and take the next entrance exam for the August LPN class and the met center. Finish the application and just see if you get in. If not then try again or enroll in nursing prereqs.
Just keep your options open do research and in the end do whats best for you and your future.

Rn with an associates degree is 2 years, RN with a bachelors degree takes 4 years. Prereqs for both could take 1-2 years and waiting list can also take 1-2 years

Nurse B , is my late 20s too late to pursue my career in nursing ? I know nursing or wanting to pursue nursing can take time out out live like years studying a craft your love & don’t want to feel like man I did more school then being able to enjoy my career. I’m starting later than just coming out of High School, so I shouldn’t feel discouraged of my age of starting late due to making sure I know exactly what I wanted to do right? So should I just follow path to get my healthcare career started altogether
