Deacon and Hancock have some of the best reaction lines, along with X6.
I find it interesting that X6 is the only who realizes that you might actually be trying to commit suicide.
Out of all of your companions it is actually the cold and calculating enforcer of the Institute who has the most empathy.

Yeah, real talk, after I destroyed the Institute as my first character, I had her jump off the Mass Fusion building. I mean, she just killed the son she tried so hard to save, that's some emotional trauma right there. Of course, then the game revived her, though.

Gravity only works so well, they only levitate from the ground. Falling does not do well with metal.
+Travis Gibbons If he can float? That thrust could make him float to the ground slower, I mean it obviously takes less energy to go down slowly then it does to stay in the same place. If codsworth used the same amount of thrust in both instances, he could go from the empire state building, float three feet forwards off the edge, and it would require the same amount of thrust to keep himself at the same height.

If we watch Codsworth. There's enough power being forced from his jets to keep him hovering from the ground without causing damage to his surrounding environment. This is why he doesn't rocketing off the ground.
I'm no physics major. However putting it together, he is only modified to project enough power from his engines to keep him off the ground. He would need far more power from his thrusters to safely descend from heights. As he is by all account a metal machine.
If he flies off an edge like that, he'll likely collapse to the ground and will need to work his thrusters to get him off the ground again. He is hovering, but not levitating or flying. He has to find other methods to get around as stable ground is what helps him levitate off the ground.
An experiment you can do is getting magnets and have the opposite sides face against one another. Despite hovering. If you drop it (granted it's heavy enough) The magnets will still hit one another before returning to it's original positions.
Travis Gibbons What the heck? It takes LESS thrust to be going slightly down from a high place then it does to stay in place when you are there? There is absolutely nothing to distinguish the force he would have to use to stay up in the air that high then on the ground since he clearly isn't using magnets, you can clearly see thrust coming from the bottom of him at all times.

The thruster aren't that strong to stop you falling. (The thrusters on the power armor can barely do it)

That reminds me of a time when playing through Nuka World with Danse as my companion in the rare time he went down (fighting the Nukalurk Queen) when I got up close to him to stimpack him he was all "I like it when your this close" had my character back up really fast before pausing the game and laughing my ass off.
I love how "human" X6 sounds in these. He tries so hard to be a good terminator, but in the end he's got feelings like everyone else and by god are testing his ability hide it.
I once roleplayed as a suicidal Lone Wanderer. So when X6 was like "you got a deathwish?" I was like "yeah. Isn't it obvious?"

The Defeat In My Eyes Codsworth is one of my favorite companions, in a world of dark stories, tough-love, having to be on your own and having no family or anyone from before the war left, Codsworth always is there "Oh no Mum!
