Ehh, honestly the ending where he says “This is who I am” was better imo. Though the ending where he says “This is who I am” was good as well.
You may also love when he becomes a Psychotic VILLAIN(it's not that I hate Shadow the Hedgehog, it's that in this game, SEGA made him soooooo folish[especially in the part when he steals the Chaos Emerald from Tails' tornado's Core Reactor[).

Here’s what I would’ve done:
After each ending’s end credits sequence, You get a beautifully drawn mural depicting the outcome of your choices. For example, if you chose to overthrow Eggman, you’d sit on a metal throne commanding his army. If you choose to be a hero, you get a re-creation of the final image from Sonic Adventure 2. Etc.
That way you’d really feel like your choices made a difference since you get to see a glimpse of what the sonic timeline would’ve been like if you made these choices.
But then the Semi-Hero/Hero ending would just be Shadow hanging himself...
Or, perhaps more depressingly, an image of him sitting alone and dejected at the controls of the Space Colony ARK, committed to live away from the people of Earth and remain his own prisoner aboard the space station in which he was born.

I'm glad they chose Vector to be the helper in the ending where Shadow is depressed.
Shadow says his little speech about how he is a mistake, then Vector comes in like "HeY, dOn'T gO tHeRe... YeT"
I think Vector isn't to good at making people feel better, he's got a kind heart but isn't too good when it comes to feelings.

Btw: That "Goodbye forever... Shadow the Hedgehog" by Shadow himself didn't mean that he is a android and not the original one. He's just saying goodbye to his past and turning over a new leaf.

Shadow in the next year: I won... but at what cost?
Anyway, it it was really Shadow Android, even with the most powerful form Eggman could have created, he couldn't use the power of chaos emeralds, only the original can do it.
Finally, for his past, he will never forget Maria, because she was too important in his life, even if for him it's blurred. But for the rest he made a cross, he saw the powers he had, and what he could do with them, to save the world
I like how pure hero's dark ending laugh wasn't evil, it was a laugh of triumph.

Pure Hero - Dark Ending is unique in that the boss battle is just a friendly contest at that point. (Though admittedly Diablon's pilot, the Commander, probably isn't too pleased to be there!) I think that's kinda fun.
My favorite ending is the one where Shadow joins the Black Arms at the last minute just to be a dick to Sonic.

Well the black arms were basically done for. All Shadow did was delay the inevitable
I always felt that ending was more just him picking the selfish option over the heroic one, he's not directly screwing the heroes over but he's also not finishing the fight against the villians, he's taking his ball, or emeralds in this case, and going home after proving himself superior. it's dumb but sure memorable

And the heroic music put together with Shadow’s laughter is just unfitting. In fact this is very unfitting for a Pure Hero path, even if it’s the dark path
I love that in the ending with vector his delivery is so different, so somber, unlike all the other ones, shadow isn't motivated to do anything else

It's dawning on Sonic just how much Shadow must hate him to do something like this. From the beginning Shadow had listened to him. A front. Lies. To let his guard down. And it worked. He honestly thought Shadow was a better person.

And Shadow looks so happy about it, I mean, listen to his laugh, it's not edgy/evil like the other ones, it's straight up saying "haha, you got bamboozled Sonic !"
It's not even that. Pure Hero-Dark ending is that Sonic is fighting him not to stop his plan (as he only did the dark at the end just to ARRANGE the fight between them due to said Dark Action not accomplishing much for Black Arms) but as a competition, the General is sort of just THERE but yeah it's just a fight between the two for the most part with no grudge involved.
Kind of implies that Shadow is just gonna rush over afterward and murder Black Doom once he's done with that.

People always write this game off because "hur, hedgehog has pew pew" but this along with the adventure games were really ambitious games. It was clear these were made with passion, and honestly I love them.

In hindsight, I like how they did the story in the game.
Shadow starts off oblivious to who he is or supposed to be,
has different paths where he tries and succeeds in learning an interpretation of who he is,
and the secret ending has him deal with the loose ends of the past to allow himself to move on and focus on the future instead.
Too bad that these are just... WHAT IF's?!
Real canon ending is the very last one once you done everything.

@@user-sp2jg9rx8r Shadow couldn’t have stayed in a limbo forever. Either way, he had to choose a path, and they made the canon ending have an awesome fight with a high-budget cutscene.
Glad to see someone else gets it. The execution is messy, but then again, what Sonic game’s story isn’t rough around the edges? But Shadow’s plot isn’t a regression of his character, it’s him trying to find out who he is. In the dark endings, he’s manipulated by Black Doom to either feel like he owes allegiance to the black arms, or to give into a sense of superiority/vengeance towards humanity; in the neutral ending, he believes Eggman’s lie that he’s an android; in the semi-good endings, he latches onto the past, either letting the remorse of his actions kill him, or make him impose a self-exile to devote his life protecting his old home; and in the pure good endings his inner hero wins out. He remembers his promise and upholds it (but maybe with a little too much friendly rivalry between him and Sonic).
And in the true ending he remembers who he is, completes his duty and promise, and is finally free to make a new life for himself unburdened by his past.
Even if the game didn’t stick the landing (in fact it landed on it’s face), but I respect and appreciate what it tried to accomplish.
*When he says "Goodbye forever Shadow the hedgehog" he's letting go of his past, and moving on. He's still Shadow the hedgehog, and always will be.*

My favorite endings are the neutral hero and the pure hero-dark endings.
0:00 The idea of Shadow and Omega teaming up to destroy Eggman and take control of his fleet, as well as the world (one where androids rule) sounds rather interesting to me. I wouldn't mind a comic or story about this
6:27 Shadow ends up being confident and happy, confirming his role as ultimate lifeform. His laugh also isn't evil here, but rather a triumphant, gleeful one (same with the music). I think even sonic notices this, as he seems more chipper when he's defeated, and even chuckles. And I like to think that he's happy for shadow in the end. 🙂

You are right about Shadow being depressed, but the pure hero ending is more canonical due to what Shadow said about how Black Doom And his army are finished, and he does win in the end. Plus Shadow got all the Chaos Emeralds in the Black Comet so it makes sense.
@@johncohagen2793 I can't say that's entirely true tho. There's a lot of plotholes. For example, it is implied that Eggman told Shadow that he was an android since Eggman says in the final boss that he lied to him and he is the original. Eggman only tells Shadow in the normal side. Plus the General is clearly seen in the Gun Base, which means Diablon was never in the Black Comet to begin with. The president is also there for some reason which means he got evacuated from his base, which only happens in the dark side in a couple of instances. Basically, none of the stories really matter to the final story. Every single one of them is inconsistent to the final one in a # of ways. I didn't even say every single inconsistency.
The one there to console him was fucking Vector.
I still question why the character in the best written ending emotionally is vector and not sonic. btw, the true hero darkending is a pure meme with some plotholes and nonsence.

Semi-Hero Dark Ending is also my personal favorite. He makes peace with himself, now trying to live on for Maria. He's most likely distanced himself from the people who tried taking him down, and at this point is just going to find his place in all this. It ain't the edgy kind of solitude: it's the kind where he finds the meaning in his life.
I keep skipping to the part where he says "finally, I've got all the chaos emeralds" and die of laughter hearing him say it over and over again in different situations

In fact ALL OF EM imply it.
Pure Dark: Shadow has no reason to let Sonic live in the dark path and the Commander died during the boss fight, Black Doom is next as an Omnicidal Rampage is not part of Black Doom's plan. While the Hero version absolutely will destroy Black Doom, take out Sonic and the Commander and likely the president as he establishes rule over the planet.
Semi Dark: Dark is Shadow being everything Black Doom wanted (his puppet) so Sonic is straight up screwed. Hero has him execute Eggman before going renegade.
Neutral: Eggman dies in both versions via Karate Chop.
Semi Hero: Dark, while not killing Eggman, will absolutely kill Black Doom and pop the comet with the Eclipse Cannon. Meanwhile Hero is going to 'Correct' the 'mistake' of his existence, we can assume Black Doom getting murdered by Eggman whilst he is weak and hella confused.
Pure Hero: Black Doom is fucked in both endings, Dark is just Shadow being Vegeta while Hero has him work with Sonic.
True Ending: Black Doom is very obviously dead despite busting out his Devil Doom form.
Ok but seriously Shadow is one of the most underportrayed & underappreciated characters. If it wasn't tailored to little kids this game would have been insanely better.

Shadow doesn't betray Sonic in this ending. He simply wanted to kick Sonic's ass to prove a point then proceed with continuing the route of being a hero.

My personal favourite is the ending where he stays on the ARC. This is Shadow rejecting his future and embracing his past, not entirely sure if it counts as a negative arc or not though since he doesn't necessarily end up worse off than he already was. But also rejects a life of heroism.
This games story would be pretty ok if not for the fact that Sonic adventure 2 already introduced and resolved Shadows arc far better than any othet game did.
Sonic Heroes had the implication that the Shadow in that game WASN'T the original (considering he fell from Space to the Earth, chances were fair that he died) and hence Shadow's brooding. He is with frustrating glimpses of a past that may not actually be HIS but merely an echo of a deceased Shadow.
By this game's final story he had finally reconciled (and it is revealed it's ACTUAL Shadow the Hedgehog who Eggman saved and then studied to make the Androids) and thus leading to him tying the loose ends of his past (Hell the recording by Gerald is obviously one from BEFORE the whole incident which claimed Maria's life as Maria is there to chime in)

Honestly I like how Shadow the Hedgehog just have thousands of different ending that plays a little differently but gives a different explanation to Shadow before finally getting to true conclusion.

Actually, I think Omega would like that, plus he gets to kill Eggman which was what he wanted to to :)
I feel with Pure Dark - Hero, he plans to take Rouge as dark queen or perhaps an advisor because she was able to, at the last minute, sway him from becoming an Omnicidal Maniac.

Something about the Pure Hero (Dark) Ending really sticks with me in a silly way. Something about Shadow wanting to be better than Sonic regardless of what threat appears makes me happy, even if it's not in-character with modern Shadow. It's more in-character with SA2 "I'm the coolest!" Shadow. He's not relevant anymore, but something about how being The Best, being The Coolest makes me smile.
Sonic: "Shadow... Why... why are you siding with them?"
Gotta say, Jason Anthony Griffith really does a good job of having Sonic sound so utterly betrayed here.

The True Ending
I absolutely adore the Pure Hero Dark ending. Like, the world is basically saved, just one final push and the threat is gone forever, and Shadow just decides to fuck with Sonic one more time for his own amusement before presumably running off to kill Doom anyway. Sonic isn’t even mad, he’s literally just like ‘lmfao nice’ and the Commander is there because…reasons?
I like how in half of the neutral endings, Shadow kills Eggman. No "I'll let you live this once" or throwing him to jail, just straight up murder. And in the first one he orders Omega to do the job

Personally, I feel like, since the Dark mission for the Neutral final level has you help Eggman, that final boss should've been a test for Shadow, who convinced himself he was an android. The Neutral Dark ending should've been Eggman promoting Shadow to a higher rank.
The Semi-Hero Hero Ending precedes Vector's infamous meme "Find the computer room!" Yes, that's the Hero mission of the Semi-Hero final level. It and the battle against Black Doom take place in the computer room, but afterwards, Shadow suffers mentally. One of the paths to that ending even implies that Shadow *takes his own life* after it fades to black.
GUN Fortress, the Pure Dark final level, shows that it's too late for Shadow to turn around. The Pure Dark - Dark ending isn't even what Black Doom wanted. It's what Gerald Robotnik wanted back in Sonic Adventure 2, to destroy the world. The Pure Dark - Hero ending is more Shadow backstabbing Black Doom and being an even more evil ruler. Black Doom does not get his way in either of the Pure Dark endings. He gets his way in the Semi-Dark - Dark ending, where Shadow serves him loyally.
The Pure Hero - Dark ending could be interpreted as a friendly sparring match, after which Sonic and Shadow take out Black Doom. Alternatively, it could be that Shadow is so obsessed with being Sonic's rival that he'll oppose him no matter what.
The Semi-Hero Dark ending is the only one with Eggman and the Egg Dealer as the final boss that doesn't end with Shadow *killing Eggman with a karate chop* . He apparently values his birthplace and wants to stay there for the rest of his life, which could be forever.
Him killing Eggman in the Neutral - Hero makes sense, as E-123 Omega would want that, and he's Shadow's partner.
The Semi-Dark Hero ending is where Shadow decides not to listen to anyone other than himself.
Neutral Dark's final boss should be Sonic and Diablon. There should be an ending where Shadow sides with Eggman. Semi-Dark Hero's final boss should be Black Doom. Why the hell is Eggman on the Black Comet on that path?

neutral dark has to be the funniest ending, mostly due to eggman’s lines.
All these years later these endings still crack me up even yet.
