Nice one, coach! We had a cold spell here in Amsterdam and all the lakes and canals were frozen over... so I went walking on the ice... and will keep dreaming of the day I can skate backwards! Ha!
Great video. I can skate backwards, but not well. I can ski backwards better. Had to telemark ski backwards to pass my ski instructor exam. It's fun how so many things are similar to skiing forward, just in a different direction and backwards feeling if you will.
Great stuff. Hey I bought the synthetic ice from where you suggested. I was unaware that there would be an enhancer spray needed. My fault for not asking more questions. How do you have such smoothness here? How much do you spray and when? Thank you! Subscriber, Nick
Nick I do exactly as they instructed me to do I mist it and then take the DIY zam over the mist about every 2 to 3 days. I think they said once a week. Now if you don't then you will just get more resistance... so it's really about how hard you are willing to push. The more you skate on it the faster it will be down the road.
*This is all filmed on synthetic ice, so yes it's 20% more difficult going backwards, **THIS IS ONLY A BEGINNER VIDEO!!!!!!!!!* Just a place to start!* Good luck*
So I would say yes with variables Gregory. The mechanics are not identical and if they are in a situation where they are learning muscle memory and go too long on rollerblades without ice some bad mechanics could creep in. Both on ice and rollerblades can't hurt. Thanks for watching! Coach Ryan
*hockey universe 1st- thanks for watching.... try this video as well I just put out yesterday... more mechanics and getting power backward...**ruclips.net/video/oIVuWO-gVkc/видео.html** Good Luck out there- Coach Ryan*

Oh man...Looks so hard!!! Great tips and thanks for breaking it down.
It's all about the feel. Once you start to feel it, it's not too hard.
I haven't ice skated in YEARS! It's given me inspo to try it out again :-)
It's a therapy for me! Nothing quite like the feeling of skating!
This is great! The first time I have watched someone explain what is required in an easy to follow way.
Well Thanks Sherifa! Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching.
Great tutorial on backward skaing.
Thank you! Very appreciated- Coach Ryan

That is a good call! At the end of the day it's all about finding the feel too! Thanks again for watching! Coach Ryan
Never played ice hockey, but enjoy watching it in the Winter Olympics. Always wondered how the players skate backwards. Thanks for sharing the tips.
Oh thanks! My pleasure!
This is great!!! I will be giving it a try.
Thanks Coach and good luck!

Awesome video! I am a inline skater in Texas! Easy instructions to follow.
Oh nice! Do you use hockey style skates or Inline Speed Skates. I've tried those.... very fun!
This is amazing!
Man that means a lot thank you!

You make this look so easy!
Awww thank you, when you've been skating since you're age4 it's easier than walking in tennis shoes

Can a child practice on their Bauer hockey rollerblades while off ice? Will the technique still be the same?

@@DuPrawPowerskating Thanks a lot for the reply and advice! It means a lot!!
