One of the best reactions on Darci! I'm not a ventriloquist but I do own a singing telegram company and come to think of it, I don't open my mouth much when I sing either. Never really thought about it much before, but I don't.
This amazingly talented child also sings opera, or rather the puppet does, and she has another puppet that yodels. This kid is going to be very big in entertainment. The beauty is at her age she is fearless and is happy to tackle anything.
As she gets older her voice changes etc. Hopefully the talent and desire remains.

Darci is four octaves singers and very powerful one she have lungs from steel (maybe becouse she was 8lvl gymnast before quitting and love running ) she can do opera... Look for her singing Girl from 14G ... she killed mic there lol...
Terry Fator won season two of A.G.T. he is also a singing ventriloquist. He makes 100 million dollars a year in Las Vegas. This is where this little girl, Darci Lynne is headed. It's called talent! Pure talent! Plus she has only been doing this for two years!
It's $100 million for 5 years - still a lot of money.
Sorry. Heidi on A.G.T said a few years ago to another Ventriloquist, Paul Zerden, who actually won that season that Terry Fator was making 100 million a year. That's where I got that from. Yea, It's still is a whole lot of money tho.

The best part of Darci Lynn is how down to earth and sweet she is. She is an awesome young lady on stage and off stage.

I think you are right on with the closed mouth thing. Darcie's voice is so strong she does better with her mouth mostly closed. She is amazing.
She won season 12 of agt. It came down to her and Angelica Hale.
I can see why she won over Angelica hale (not saying Angelica isn’t good, she is amazing) but what she is doing is really hard.
Yeh that's it. She is balancing three talents. She has to be able to sing in different voices, while doing ventriloquism and also handling the puppets to make them move and react to each other. She also has to react to them too. Its multitasking at the highest level.

there were some very talented singers on that series year, but she was just as talented singing, and was doing multiple puppets who were singing, while doing better ventriloquism than most other ventriloquists.

My choir teachers FAVOURITE THING is open mouths. It can get very frustrating cause she will pick you out if she's like "hey your mouth is not open enough"

Darci is incredible. You should see Petunia, the bunny, sing opera. It's amazing how talented Darci is after performing ventriloquism for only three years. I love her puppet, Edna Doorknocker, who serenaded Simon during one of her AGT performances. It was fun to see Simon's face turn red with embarrassment. Darci has a wicked sense of humor and it's hard to believe she once was incredibly shy.
Closing my mouth more was probably the best tip I learned from you. I honestly couldn't believe how much more consistent I could sing that way and how much more control I had, especially over going from low to high or high to low. That and using more horizontal mouth opening. I feel like I have a bit more control over tone too now.
She can yodel too.
She does open her mouth normally when singing as herself.

The fact that I can't understand how she sings an open ah vowel with a completely closed mouth probably means that I don't really understand singing as well as I think I do.
Ink King She can. look for her singing Girl in 14g she do Opera there, and if you look closely you can see her throat working hard and she get red, it's not prerecorded.
The Edna Doornocker performance is maybe even better than this one. And you should hear her sing opera.
I have watched your reaction to Darci Lynne a couple of times....hopefully by now you have gone back and watched some of her first auditions on AGT, and her appearance on Little Big Shots (US and Great Britain) Gerald Talbott has one of the best posts....or go to Darci's You Tube channel.....prepare to be further amazed!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE react to Grace VanderWaal, AGT winner 2016 - she is genius, legend, perfect pitch, her voice IS the music. Start with Darkness Keeps Chasing Me, and her take on "River". She has rasps, crackles, and we all love her that way. Emotion big time
My choir teacher tells us to sing with our mouth wide open instead of the "smiling" way; is this normal for choir to be this way or should I still do the smile technique?
For choir that position might make sense... especially if the teacher wants a uniform sound having lots of different mouth shapes could impact that.

One other thing, I noticed that Kirstin Maldando from Pentatonix does a lot of horizontal mouthing on certain notes. It looks almost like she is try to stretch her mouth sideways. And Darci is going to be on the Pentatonix Christmas Special, Nov 27. I am going to check it out.

You can tell she was at her limit by the end of the performance though, with how red she was and sweating so much. Plus, if you watch, her eyes get wide in parts where she's clearly not getting enough air.
Hardest sounds in ventriloquism are B, P and M because they are labial and they do require to close your lips visibly. Well, just hard training then

I am late to the game here and love the reactions of vocal coaches to these performances since you have an ear for the techniques. Another person I would love to hear you react to is Angelica Hale. She came in 2nd place to Darci on the 2017 season of AGT. She was 9/10 at the time. Most people react to her original audition of Rise Up or her golden buzzer song of Girl on Fire but I think her best one of the season was her interpretation of Clarity. She changed it from an EDM to a ballad song. Also, if you want to react to something more updated, I really highly recommend her Stone Cold cover as I feel it's her best one so far. I hope you react to it. Thanks for your time and reactions.

I have a question. You say that it is important to sing with your mouth closed to avoid any fluctuations in your vowel formation, which makes sense, but wouldn't you want to have your mouth open (and held in a consistent position) so that you can avoid having a 'tangy' voice (as in having 'wide' vowels instead of 'tall' vowels?) I personally have only learned vocals for singing in a choir, but I love your comments and insights in pop singing and wanted to understand.
