My process would be to grudgingly purchase it because "I've got to have it" while grumbling about the ridiculous price. I'd then use it once, keep it for a year then sell it for half price. I use the same technique for stock purchases.
Thanks for posting Captain; Cost versus the benefit? well; Mavic Pro 2 on full HD has the same "wide field of view" however you can crop back in (if you need to) on the lesser resolution !!!
DJI seem to be pushing their prices through the roof. And not only on their drones. Good review as we always expect from you Steve. Greetings from Spain 🇪🇸 Barry
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 does it matter as other brands make good alternatives? I dont know what statistics really are but they arent necessarily the first name i think of (but then i only watch this channel )
I will get me this lens and save it for the next ten years until I finally have some money to buy the macic three. Lol. Looks good though. Thanks again Captain!
For my usage, the MAVIC 3 was fine, mostly because I don’t use many of the beginner autonomous features. GPS issues were rather minor for me as well. However for those that purchased this drone for the autonomous features, they have been tweaked.
Got mine Wednesday. 108° is 24° more - I expecteda bigger FOV. Annoyed you can't use it for Hyperlapse! That was one of my main interests, but I found out it wouldn't when an ND filter was lose "Wide Angle Lens Attached Shooting in Hyperlapse not possible! "
@CAPTAIN DRONE Indeed! Imagine the applications for filters, adjustments to aperture, shutter priority etc. If only the power is used for good, not evil! (restricting modes)- the user should be allowed to be creative!
@Andrew Harrison Thanks. I knew someone would figure out how it detects the lens. It won't shoot ANY autonomous modes, which makes some sense, as overlap on panoramas, and other factors could produce poor results. Still, I think we should be able to do creative things, even if results are not the best. Do you know which plate or if both are magnetic? These have the retention pins touching so it would make the lens fit loosely. Don't want to lose a nearly $200 accessory in flight!
Captain I see all around many people leaving their M3s behind. Many not happy customers, as far as I can understand. What is your view on this? Cheers. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
When are we going to see the free solo climbs with Alex honnold at El Capitan? We all know you were first to free solo it lol. Have a good night and a good laugh.
Having always like the 40mm cropped look straight our of camera on my M2P, I would rather DJI made a 50mm or longer clip on lens for the M3 to get a really nice parallax shot
A little more Autel, and Dji will fix its software: Mavic3 will do a great dancing pirouette, just before it disappears, in an attempt to find the lost Atlantis and the GPS signal!
Hmmm…. On pro photography cameras they have such an item but it must be placed between the sensor and lens. Since these consumer drones do not have removable lenses, We won’t see it.
I know its nothing to do with this video, but can I ask. Your choice, what would you say one of the best smaller framed 3" to 4" drones, HD drones would you say is worth a purchase. Thanks. Keep smiling
Well, I think you can spend the 150 dollars because the Mavic 3 is so cheap.DJI has to live from something. and before Freewell sells the lens for 80 dollars in the end, you quickly make a profit in your own pocket. But the result is not bad. After all, this is also the best glass on this planet. 👍😃
Great video, but I have a totally unrelated question. Should I buy a used air1 or a mini 2? I’m really in a dilemma as the used air fly more combo is actually cheaper than the standard mini 2. I am just someone who wants to get into aerial photography, and currently own a tello, thanks for the suggestion!
Mini 2 hands down. It's Ocusync 2, better camera, quiter with nearly double the flight time and doesn't require registration in most counties. A far better drone choice. Air 1 was cool, but a one off, never repeated design. You SHOULD get an Air 2 (not 2S) Check out Captains review and recent reviews by DroneXfactor and HalfChrome. Also SkyHighFilms. Its the ONLY DJI DRONE you can buy Freewell Anamorphic lenses for for less than $40. I love mine even though I have a Mavic 3. Mini 2 or Air 2. best choices.
Great review of the lens. Thank you for the multiple side by sides, that explains what we are really getting. Also, thank you for doing this in the cold! That takes commitment to the channel!
Great review Cap. As always. Having the DJI lense to remove and replace easily makes me believe they planned to up sell from the beginning. Let’s thank Captain for the info by hitting the like button. Show your support. Best wishes
This wide angle lens is the definition of a gimmick accessory. It adds a minimal amount to the field of view while creating way too much visual distortion. Definitely Two thumbs down for this product.
Well, I suppose the cost could be a lot higher. DJI could've released two versions of the Mavic 3 Cine instead just like they did with the Mavic Pro 2. It'd be really expensive reviewing two otherwise identical drones that utilize different built-in lenses. While I'm glad they're selling wide angle lenses separately, I can't say I'm thrilled about that price tag. You could buy a budget or toy drone like the Tello for that kind of money. Well, thanks for this mini review anyway. Looking forward to whatever else is coming out this year!
180 dollars for 13 grams???!!! I can't believe that DJI is planning to make everyone bankrupt... Here, we can have 3 months of food for 180 dollars! Anyway, lets come to the point. The Wide Angle lens for Mavic 3 is pretty good as it widens the visible scene from the camera. According to me, Mavic 3 is looking beautiful with that lens on! But, it must not cost more than 20 dollars, not gonna lie...
It’s a no buy for me! I think DJI is over pricing their accessories and this is one of it. The wide angle difference isn’t that much for such a HUGE price 🙄.
I don’t own a Mavic 3 but I don’t see any really big difference between the two modes to justify expending $149 for a single lens. Well it could be nothing for professionals 007 licensed pilots that make money with the drone but I am just a hobbyist.
I think it’s funny how you’re just laughing off frost bite like it’s a joke. You are one tough Canadian! I would be crying like a school girl, thinking my arm will fall off lol! Americans….lol.
For the $ I don't see the value in the pics. The horizon is curved on both images. What's up with that? Get an Inspire 2 instead. The Zenmuse much better.
I fly my Cine probably an average of 2 hours a day and I am not a fan of the wide angle, especially for video. But I rarely go up for just photo, so it was a waste of $150 for me. Any panning - especially vertical panning - makes you realize how warped it makes your footage. Not a good product in my opinion. Get 2 anamorphic filters or a nice set of NDs or a polarizer instead!
You need to mention the horrible distortion, the horizon is totally bended, I just got a cheap one and notice that I though if I get the original from DJI I won't have the ugly distortions but totally the same until they don't apply a fix with some update is a waste of money since your can get the same in China for 34 bucks
What an absolute scam from dji!!! These drones are incredibly expensive, they should have made it that way in the first place. Just another way to rip off the customers who dji know are gonna buy it regardless.
My process would be to grudgingly purchase it because "I've got to have it" while grumbling about the ridiculous price. I'd then use it once, keep it for a year then sell it for half price. I use the same technique for stock purchases.

Fair review. I've heard real estate photographers say it's worth it for the wide angle photos.
If he bothered to actually shoot this video without the massive 5.2k crop, it would have been useful.
I feel like they could have integrated this into a drone itself instead of making a lens?? Great review loved it by the way!
Good review Steve

Wow, so the camera senses that the wide angle lens is attached. Now that is interesting.
I have heard that if you remove the magnet from the wide angle lens then you can shoot hyperlapse with it

The WA lens also added a yellowish colorcast, totally for free!
I did notice in video there is a slight tint. Not always apparent so could be a white balance issue due to snow.
Great video as per. Way to expensive for what you get... but then that's the M3 all over.

Kind of reminds me of the Moment Anamorphic lens without the lens flare. Wonder if you decompress the shot if the horizon will flatten out?
You are correct as an anamorphic lens (wide) and a wide angle lens (wide format) look very similar.
Thanks for the video! I'm not sure that small of a difference is worth the price. 🤔
Nice! We'd see more super-wide Mavic 3 shots then!

Only issue I have had is loss of GPS signal for no reason.
