    Hello Billy,
    My name is Noah, I'm 16 years old and I'm half American. I live in Germany and have now been to America several times. Because of you I've been to Philadelphia twice and Surf City once. I will buy the Mavic 3 Comno in spring, I was about to watch a video about this lens and see that you have just uploaded a video about it. I'm curious, I love your videos and I've been at the start since you had 70,000 thousand subscribers. I love the way you are and the design of your videos, great work!

    2 key points you mentioned:
    -Nadir shots at large construction sites where one is limited by 400 foot altitude and/or a limited grid ceiling.
    -Also where you can not move because of obstacles around you and you need that WFOV.
    That’s why I got mine. Not to mention, I had $70 in DJI credit. ;)

      Bingo.... Its the commercial properties for me that have to fit in a single shot, framed properly. Billy had recommended stitching for this, but then getting it to a standard size for the client becomes a headache. I absolutely LOVE the 15mm lens and like with most things DJI - I am confident it will become better with future firmware. Even if it doesn't, the clients all love the lens and it really comes in to play the most on those larger buildings with trees and other plants that get in the way.

    Nice job as always Billy. Definitely the most complete video I've seen on the subject yet. I got mine yesterday and was immediately disappointed by the distortion. I shoot 99% real estate and got this lens as there are often trees and / or power lines that don't let me back up any farther to get a good front shot of the house. The distortion is correctable but when you correct for it, you end up cropping out some of the edges negating some of the usefulness of the lens. Like you, I'm going to keep it in my bag for those times when I literally have no other option but overall it's a letdown for me.

  • @ParideMusci
    @ParideMusci 2 года назад +3

    I also received this lens, tested and posted a video on my channel, but returned the next day.
    A lot of distortion and waste of time in post-production.
    Only good for some uses where you can't get too far with the drone and end up flying over private properties, people, or you have already reached the maximum height, but the gain is not that much and after the distortion correction the result is almost the same of the standard lens, so you should keep the distortion and fisheye effect if you want to keep the whole image wide.

    I just think dji rip us of when it comes to extras I mean the price they want for such a little thing that probably cost 5 dollars to make just shows you how much profit they are making and for the price of the m3 thus should had been included. Still I guess that's just business but I can't see them selling to many I'm sure a 3rd party will come along and do the same thing or better for less than half that price. Great video Billy as usual 😁👌👍🇬🇧

    So glad you made this video. I just bought my 7th DJI drone (bundled Mavic 3 Fly more combo). I also purchased the wide angle lens so I’m very disappointed there are so many negatives. The ONLY reason I was expecting to use it was for those close-up vids and pics. You showed the close-up views using it and I’m still very impressed with the overall outcome of the quality produced by the Mavic 3. I too, will keep the lens. It’s being delivered today.

  • @saramdipm
    @saramdipm 2 года назад +4

    I was disappointed when I received mine. The significant barrel distortion you see is because it’s a curvilinear lens with a single lens element. DJI did not mention this on the product page. Size isn’t an excuse - all modern phones have lenses with multiple elements and every wide angle lense on every phone I’m aware of is rectilinear. I suppose the intent is to make images and video look more like a GoPro in the sky. I probably shouldn’t have ordered before reviews came out.

    • @skywalkerfeng1734
      @skywalkerfeng1734 2 года назад +1

      I received mine too, and I am also disappointed by the amount of distortions. It is a bit too much, and certainly far from perfect. But at the same time, I have to recognize the fact that it is not a real lens, but a lens adapter. I suspect if DJI designed a true rectilinear wide angle lens with multiple optical elements, and mount that on top of that 24mm standard lens, the size and weight would be a big issue for gimbal operation. Even the current design is already quite heavy IMO. Yes the cell phones has wide angle lens too, but they are tiny compared to the lens on Mavic 3. It is mostly due to the sensor difference (1/2.55" v.s. 4/3").

    Another use case, albeit quite niche, would be to enhance an FPV style shot as when flying low it would include more of the ground and give more of the thrill of an FPV video. Obviously not what drones like these are meant for but to add a cinematic effect might come in handy. Pricey for this though. Great video I’ve not seen your videos for a while Billy but I remember when you started on RUclips, well done on your success!

And yep you guessed it im here considering the wide-angle lens for my Mavic 3 classic after i encountered a circumstance where the standard 24mmm focal length couldnt achieve a wide enough shot for the "hero shot" of the pool that i couldnt get to with my tripod/camera. I think this is worth investing in for the odd occasion its needed.

  • @robnelms1418
    @robnelms1418 Год назад

    Actually, the whole reason I wanted a wide angle lens is because you can’t always just fly back further. There was a time when I was trying to photograph a a property from the front, but couldn’t go back far enough to capture the whole thing because the property was large, and there was a building right behind me. This happened again when there was a tree. So you don’t have nearly as much freedom as you’re saying in every situation.

    Don't use the wide angle lens for capturing wide areas from above (it looks cheap), use it close to subjects and play artistically with the distortion. Also keep you horizon straight. Just because a drone can go high, that doesn't mean that you must go high. Using it at 20cm - 3 meters height can be very interesting, also above some ground/water that is not suitable for walking/gimbaling, or you just don't want to carry extra stuff with you :). I think the wide angle lens will shine mostly in those kind of shots :) BTW your water tower shot at 2:50 is nice wide video shot (straight horizon, nice wide FoV, and the distortion adds to the landscape, not ruing it)

    Good video - and entirely honest - but I have the wide-angle for a specific reason. You hit it right towards the end - the 400' general limit doesn't always allow you to capture everything you want. In Canada we can fall back on a Special Flight authorisation, but it's a pain.

    At that price point and so many negatives I’ll wait for an improved third party option. I’m very comfortable with stitching a few frames together to expand my FOV.
    Sometimes you only need 1/2 frame wider to emulate more like a 20° lens and there’s ways to lessen or even not have any barrel distortion that way.
    Lightroom makes it dead easy to stitch multiple frames.

    Hello. Have you tried taking a 360 photo, in panorama mode on dji fly or even a manual panorama? I would like to know if the automated panorama works normally, with the same 25 shots taken, or if there is a reduction. In the manual case, do you think you can eliminate 1 photo, keeping the necessary overlap for the streaching? If you tried manually stitching the panorama photos in some software, was there an improvement or a worsening in the fabric's construction?

    • @BlairAir
      @BlairAir 2 года назад +1

      NONE of these automated modes work with the Wide angle adapter. I found out a month ago when my ND Filter was partly twisted and it detected it as the Wide angle. MasterShots, Quickshots, Focus Track (POI, Spotlight, Active Track) Panorama, Hyperlapse. NONE of it works - you get "Wide Angle Lens Attached- Cannot shoot in Panorama", etc. So manual pano will have to be the way,
      And your comment shows exactly why most (not all) modes are disabled. They would need to rework them for the different geometry. It took months to roll out the same, tired Quickshots that, as Billy pointed out on his Firmware video, have been with us since 2018... Air 2S got Mastershots- Mavic 3 got literally nothing new. In any of the autonomous modes. Mini 2 does the same ones, except Asteroid. Big whoop 🤭

    Thanks for sharing Billy, I had been think of buying but easy decision made as soon as you said reduced image quality! A pointless accessory as far as I am concerned.

    Hey Billy. Nice job as always.👍
    What is the difference between the vide angle lens and just taking the shot away from the target?

    • @smaakjeks
      @smaakjeks 2 года назад +1

      Wider angled lenses tend to make close things huge, and distant things tiny, whereas longer lenses tend to reduce the difference.

    This feels like everything else from DJI this year. Half baked, half a$$. Great video though, thank you

    Trying to get the word out to fellow aerial mappers that I heard directly from DJI rep on the M3 team that waypoint missions won’t be possible, their mobile SDK will not be released for it and GSPro won’t support it. This means zero chance of it being used for aerial mapping any time soon. Tried to explain to them the huge market share of professionals they will miss out on… deaf ears. We were planning to replace our whole fleet of P4Pros with these… returning ours now.

    Única utilidade desta lente é brincar de fpv ou voar em locais apertados, pegando o máximo de informações possível. Não faz sentido usa-las em voos abertos, visto que com a lenta padrão você consegue pegar a mesma informação extra, apenas afastando/subindo mais o drone.
    Pagar $170 real pra usar o mavic3 como fpv é inviável considerando a vasta variedades de opções de outros drones menores, mas talvez seja útil em locais fechados.

    The third party version for the M2P has the same issues. I keep it in my bag but I've only ever used it once. Fortunately, it was only $30.

    But DJI should improve MAVIC 3's obstacle sensing capabilities respect to Cables and wires. There are many high tension electric wires and cables from heights 10 feet to 100 feet from ground level which the Mavic 3 sensors fail to detect them. Please highlight this issue in your reviews.

    I'm still flying my Phantom 4 Pro don't care for all this new and improved stuff they come up with. The Phantom 4 Pro still the best DJI product

      I loved my Phantom 4 Pro, but I promise you the upgrade to Mavic 3 or even Mavic 2 pro is significant.

      I too loved my P4pv2 and had no intention of getting rid of it, but last week had both GPS and controller connection loss and I lost it.
      In spite of some of the limitations they have on the Mavic 3 I intend to get one for the upgrade and sensor quality, and low light capabilities, it’ll be a big jump in the technology for me.
      But I do miss my Phantom…
