Wow, you just gave a Master Class in Photography! Thank you! I went to a photography school and I think you did a better explanation for light, tint, and the camera sensor adjustments than most of my instructors. Thank you for showing us where on the polarizer you found your best spot. Well Done!
@@PilotInstituteVery interesting comparison, guys. There are now ND filter sets from Freewell and Polarpro for the Air 3 on the market. It would be great to see a comparison between these and the DJI filters😊.
I've just returned my Polar Pro vivid collection M3Pro filters. Unfortunately, when used with the wide angle lens the filters cause quite substantial gold reflections in the bottom corners of images. Almost like gold vignetting. I raised this with Polar Pro and they acknowledged it was an issue but said it occurs very rarely. Unfortunately, my experience was that the reflections occurred in every single shot I took, which is really poor. It's a real shame that Polar Pro seem happy to sell filters that cause this issue when used with the main wide angle lens. On their promotional video they say that they have designed these filters to be 'perfectly compatible with the three lenses on the drone' and go on to say that they built the whole system around the wide angle lens as that had to be perfect. Sadly that is simply not the case. They even went as far as saying that if they replaced the filter set, the new ones would be exactly the same. Would be interested to hear others experiences with the Polar Pro set.
Hello!! I am having the same issue. When i have the sun in front of the camera i have the reflections in both down corners. I will write to polarpro. Did you get a refund? I am considering change and use the freewell. Btw one friend of mine has the same issue with this filter
I had the same issue with the Polarpro. I notice it most when shooting birds-eye towards the ground. It’s a huge amount of gold. I have now sold the Polarpro and have moved to freewell. The edges on the freewell are much thinner compared to the polar pro by at least a few mm so hopefully it doesn’t have the same issue - but will test out this week.
Hi, nice video and thank you for the deep details en effort you put in these video's. I have an air 3, I wounder if you also prepare a ND filter review for the air 3. regards Ronny
You should have included K&F's M3 filters. Lowest price and highest accuracy. Don't just stick to the typical 'drone filter' brands, there are several other great manufacturers that have been making great camera filters for decades. Also, how about the Copper frame bleed on the Polar Pros!? Hundreds of customers have returned these already. Great content as always though guys, seriously. 🙌
An excellent review, very well explained from start to finish.......Favourite bit...... "right around the 5 O'Clock mark, if you know how to read a real watch" 😂😂
Great content! How do you feel about being forced into PL for some of these options? Won't you have to bring the drone in to adjust if you are going for a different angle on a subject? I opted for the Neewer kit for my Air3, as I didn't want to fuss with the PL...perhaps I was too quick on the draw.
Pilot institute Hi sir can you test all that brand filter on Mavic Air 3 because Now a lot Drone pilot purchased the Mavic Air 3.hope fully will help the drone user. Have a great day sir.Tks you
Thank you for the video. I actually bought the Freewell set and the Neweer set and just by my personal test, the Freewell performed better. Thank you confirming my purchase on the Freewell set
Thanks, now I am happy again with my Mavic 3 and glad I did not wait to get the Mavic 3 Pro. I have to use ND filters on the Mini 3 Pro, but don't use any of the Mavic 3 and am quite satisfied...
Great review. I'd be keen to see a review of the Newer variable ND filters against the fixed set. Ultimately for video the 1x doesn't need an ND (generally) as we have the option to reduce the aperture and stop down with that
Great review. I have used the pola pros in the past. The greatest professional results can be achieved with using the nd/pola. Especially when over clear water. It's a shame about the gold rim of this new set causing problems will probably go with the Freewell now. The position of the pola is not always the same. It depends on the time of day and the angle of the sun and the reflections. Maximum effects can be achieved when the sun is highest. thanks
I really wanted to get the dji filter for air3 but they are just sold out everywhere lol. I think i might pick up the split filter from freewell instead
I'm a bit confused. When I measure a scene with my Sekonic light meter, the values I get for exposure work regardless of camera. An EV of 11 will translate to ISO 100, f8, 1/250 (for example) and those settings can be used on my micro four thirds, aps-c, full frame, and medium format cameras without compensating for the sensor size. The settings will also work on my film cameras for any film size. There is no factor on the meter for sensor size, it's ISO, shutter and aperture. Period. Crop factor, which is what you're talking about here, does not affect how much light reaches the sensor. That's why the "sunny 16" rule works regardless of sensor and film size. It does affect depth of field though, and you need to apply the same crop factor to a lens with regard to the depth of field calculation. This is why hyperfocal distance calculations like that used in Photopills include sensor size but sunny 16 and light meters do not. ISO 100, 1/250 second, f/8 works on all of my cameras for the same scene EV. Lenses are designed for specific sensor sizes. The calculation for lens speed includes sensor size so when a lens is specced out the designer calculates the maximum light capability using entrance pupil and sensor size. That's why my 8mm f/1.7 micro four thirds lens is faster than my 23mm f/4 GFX lens. The image circle for the larger sensor needs to be bigger and that means more diffuse light compare to the relatively tiny M43 sensor. As a consequence, the medium format lens, though slower, is huge in comparison to the fast M43 lens. More light on the sensor requires bigger glass. This is important when you need a fast lens, and also to maintain consistency between camera systems. A Nikon and a Hasselblad MUST produce the same result given ISO, shutter and aperture, regardless oft he speed of the lens. So DJI has a dilemma when it has three cameras with different sensors and different lenses. How do you compensate for the 7x lens being slower than the f/2.8 lenses? Given that you can apparently switch lenses while filming I don't see how they can guarantee the same EV when each camera can be at a different f stop, unless there is some kind of aperture priority mode that automatically changes ISO or shutter speed when changing cameras. The ND filters might just be a way to minimize the required adjustments for each camera or to correct for white balance. With computational imaging nowadays who knows what sorcery is going on or even possible?
That is thorough! Thank you! I've never used a filter on my drone (and barely in my 12 years of photography), so I will just be happy with the DJI ones since they were an unexpected bonus when I got the M3P. I am tempted to try a polarizer though, since I mostly shoot over the lake, and usually have to wait until later in the day.
I use the formula of wing it over mess around with filters. Being in extreme sunlight things change so much moving around on either side of high noon. In auto setting if sound effects were with the lighting setting the sound effect would be a sonic boom. Lighted to cloudy and rocky and green valleys to amber sunsets just boom.
Awesome, such a detailed comparison, You saved me !!!. Leme explain how. I recently upgraded from Mavic 2 pro to Mavic 3 pro and was pretty excited to try the 3 camera system with the DJI ND filters. I think i started with ND8 filter and , 7X camera output was completely unusable, Besides, I was so confused to match the exposure across 3 cameras that I almost thought of returning the product. Then, I came across your video and i tried other higher DJI ND filters (ND16, 32 ) in broad day light. Then i could match the exposure of all the 3 cameras with of course little tweaking for 7X camera , as you explained. I was shooting in HLG for all three cameras and all the shots came perfect. So, thx a ton for the detailed comparison; By the way, if anyone is not sure between D Log M, D Log and HLG, i would highly recommend HLG across all the 3 cameras , as it's easy to grade also easy to match with your mirrorless color profile, especially Sony Alfa cameras.
excellent work! My experience using filters is that they vary a lot between manufacturers, in tint and depth, so it’s great to see a side by side. On polarizers, I do have an observation to add. The effect a polarizer has depends on the relative angle between the lens and the sun, so the ‘sweet spot’ will change depending on the direction of view and the time of day. My understanding is that if you have the sun directly behind you, the polarizer will have no effect, and won’t make the sky look dark at any angle. When the sun is at right angles to the lens, you can get the strongest effect, if you turn the filter to the correct angle. For light reflected from surfaces, different rules apply but again it is an interplay between the sun angle, the surface angle, the lens direction and the polar angle.
The Freewell is the best hands down and i did really like polar pro but they even lie on there site with the reviews i was one of the first to get them and they wouldn't let me leave a review which wasn't a good one, the polar pro aren't even professional.... If the light hits on a certain angle it ruins your video/ photos with gold reflections and completely not dependable if your a working pro. If you spend the money spend it on freewell.. polar pro are waste of money and the DJI ones are ok if you only want ND's
Great review. Any idea when you are going to review the air 3 filters?
Grazie di cuore per l'accuratissima recensione dei filtri 😘 Mi hai fatto chiarezza per la mia scelta! Top! 💪

Dude! Great review. I would not have noticed that on the DJI ND 8 until I was struggling with it while airborne. Valuable review. Thank you.
VERY impressive review, guys. Any chance you're going to be doing the same for the new Air 3?
We only have one set for the Air 3 right now. We might either wait to get more or just test that one set alone.

Great info ill be buying the freewell for sure. On the 64 nd will it work taking a pic of the sun ?
awesome video! Thanks for the explination!
I got some awesome shots with my mavic 3 pro in Utah recently!
Great video and explanation!
Can you guys do the Tiffen ND/PL filters as well?

The PL can easily be turned off on those filters so it's not much of an issue. Yes, adjusting them manually on the ground is a pain.

Excellent review!

Neewer is a sleeper. Lots of discounts on those floating around as well. Maybe one days you can do a video about the special effects filters.
We have some special effect one for other drones that we should put in a video.

Happy to know that the Freewell preformed best. I hope their air 3 filter will do as well, ordered a set last week, should be here Friday.
It’s great to learn this knowledge! Thanks!❤
When he inhales sharply, he doesn't seem to have money, but what he does have is a specific set of skills.
