- Bruce Dickinson is back with the first live concerts in 2024! After an almost 22 year-long break the legendary vocalist finally got back on stage with his solo band… and of course, just like everything when it comes to Bruce, he did it in a very unusual manner!
So let’s take a look at the first Bruce Dickinson shows in support of the Mandrake Project, discuss the band’s performance and Bruce Dickinson’s voice… and then talk a bit about something strange about those first shows.
Bruce Dickinson’s tour in support of his latest seventh studio output The Mandrake Project was supposed to start with a warm up show in Orange County, California. So let's talk about the first 2024 live shows of Bruce Dickinson on his Mandrake Project tour, the setlist, Bruce's voice and much more in this episode!
00:00 - He is back

Have you ever seen Bruce Dickinson live solo?
I will this year‼️
This year I will finally watch it! Porto Alegre, Brazil!
yup plenty of times in the past
I saw him off the Tattooed Millionaire tour at the Whiskey, and every time he played SoCal since. I also saw him in London on the Skunkworks tour. He cut my thumb open when he slapped my hand with his tambourine at the Tattooed Whiskey show.
Last year with orchestra...that was the most unique experience ever.
I'm sooo happy that he finally played Navigate the Seas of the Sun. Just like you said, it's one of the best songs ever made by Bruce Dickinson
Definitely. Beautiful song.
And I was dere 🤭
Bruce is out there living his best life, his playfulness and exuberance on stage is contagious and an absolute joy to witness. This man is a legend!🤘👊
After watching several live clips from these So Cal shows I concur. Bruce sounds better than ever...really!! Great band too.
I really hope this will also be the case for when he tours with Iron Maiden!
@@MetalPilgrim Me too! I hope you and yours stay safe and healthy metal brother 🤘
He doesn't have space to run so he's not out of breath. He sounds great.
@@MetalPilgrim a friend went to London last year for the first leg of the Future Past Tour and told he's sounding GREAT, but this is way beyond my expectations. Bruce is the fucking GOAT
Yeah his voice is stronger than ever , unbelievable for a guy who's 64! I saw them in 2019 and they were better than in the 80's. Not that they were bad but his voice and stage show were amazing! Maiden rules 🤘
I was at the OC show. Just incredible! He hasnt lost any of his energy and magic. Freaking epic. He said he'll be back after his Maiden gigs. Up the Air Raid!!\m/
"Welcome home. It's been too long, we've missed you" This is great news, setlist is interesting, band is amazing and Bruce himself out of another planet. Can't wait for European shows. I have Berlin tickets
My wife and I were at the Observatory show and afterward I noticed my face literally hurt from smiling the entire time. It was really special, and as we were watching we knew it was something really special. ✌🏻
He looks like he’s having an absolute blast on stage, really looking forward to seeing the show here in the UK
I love Bruce’s solo stuff. I’m so glad he’s performing it again. Bringing a keyboardist and having no backing tracks is a huge breath of fresh air. Gotta love him!!
I was there at the whisky on Friday. The band was great and he was very energetic. Missed him at the box office because of work 😢
I was there Saturday and saw him on Monday as well.
I was real bummed about not meeting him either but was happy they ended up putting tix online. I met him in 2017 at his book tour at least😬
Roy Z used to write and arrange their solo songs for Bruce's voice, whereas Harris writes whatever he does, backing parts and vocal melodies and expects Bruce to "deal with it" and sing it. That's why his voice sounds way better and he enjoys singing his solo stuff way more.
Exactly. And while I love Maiden, what you said about Steve is the one thing that makes me crazy. He has one of the world's greatest metal vocalists in his pocket, and yet, he doesn't take full advantage of that. Ugh!
Roy Z collaborated but did not simply write and arrange everything. Same with Maiden. Steve writes most of it but since it’s sounds better than Bruce’s solo stuff I’d say it works that way.
@@lightdancedesigns Steve always needed a superior to reign in his excesses. He did his best work when Martin Birch was boss of the studio.
I think he is just relieved he is finally doing his solo stuff after so long
Just watched the show live here in Rio de Janeiro. This video makes complete justice to the experience. Bruce Dickinson's concert is amazing,
For me this is more special than a new Maiden tour. Been watching the live clips over and over that last few days.
I seen him for the Accident of Birth tour NYC Coney Island High in Greenwich village..im right infront of stage..i cried ..energy was so high..Adrian Smith there too...25 dollar ticket..excellent show ended with 4 Maiden songs
He’s newly invigorated and it’s great to see 🤘🏻
The first 3 shows were phenomenal. Bruce sounds incredible and he's firing away like a man half his age. I saw him perform live with his solo band in '97 and I still think that was the best concert I've ever attended, despite seeing Maiden, Priest, Def Leppard, Halford (solo) and so many others. Bruce is clearly having a blast!
Now I'm even more exited, if that's indeed possible, to having booked a ticket for The Mandrake Project in Munic in June. I'll proudly be wearing the T-shirt! Bruce is the Greatest!
The chemistry between these guys is so obvious, they are having tons of fun!
Bruce is a great frontman. Great energy👌🥳
Bruce’s solo work is more flattering to his voice live because Roy tuned the guitars down a lot which helps Brice song in a more comfortable register that’s why he’s sounding so great on this tour
i love bruce, i was born in 1965. i am an old man. i got into iron maiden in the late 80,s . i have seen them 4 times with my daughter. he is an inspiration. i wish was buying them tickets. or i had been on a british airways flight, with captian bruce.
I am so bummed out for not going. I am such a big fan of the solo Bruce albums. It was out of nowhere that he announced those two shows at the Whiskey. Now with a family it’s not easy to change things in a blink of an eye. I am hoping he comes back to LA at the end of the tour.
0:33 mark. One of his best solo songs. Book of Thel
I saw Bruce on Friday and Sunday. Seeing him at the legendary Whisky was such a treat!!! Then at the Observatory, omg, he was fantastic!!! The band is awesome too!! Him playing his Theremin was a joy, as he was just have a ball with it!! I have some videos on my page from the 3rd show!! So much fun and so glad I was blessed to see him twice!! You got it spot on when you said Bruce is letting his Inner Child out, because he is!!! 🤘❤️🤘
I’ve got my ticket for 24th May in London and I so hyped it’s untrue.
I never got the chance to see Bruce on any of his solo tours as I was too young and hadn’t even discovered Iron Maiden until 1998.
Man, I didn’t even know these shows happened, thank you so much for telling me. I just went and watched a bunch of songs from the first 2 nights and they sounded AMAZING.
UP THE IRONS 🤘
We'll need it tomorrow night. 😳
Ver a Bruce así de feliz y cantando tan bien, me llena de vida❤
Tanya O'Callaghan"Ssswwwwwoooooon!!! 😍"
I saw Bruce live at Wacken Open Air 2002. The next time I'll see him is in a few weeks in Cologne. And today I'm going to see Blaze Bayley.
See you there 🤘🏻
I was there for the second night at the Whisky. Amazing, Amazing and Amazing! 🤘...and I had the chance to meet Rod Smallwood! He was there.
I am happy for Bruce and his band
We were at the observatory and it was amazing! Bruce nailed it!
Iron Maiden being my all time favorites, since "number of the beast", I see Bruce is in good shape, reported from my son, fencing him in London not long ago.
10000 likes for Bruce
Couldn’t agree more brother. The band are absolutely immense too! You would be having fun with those guys at your back. 🤘🏻
Fantastic. I will see him live in a month.
Perfect concert here in Curitiba, Brazil. 100%!!
I had the privilege of meeting Bruce this year and he was so nice. It's just incredible to see him go crazy and have fun, and the whole audience with him. Before this video I haven't seen any live footage from the Whisky shows yet, and I'm getting butterflies in my stomach watching your video! 🦋 I was already looking foreward to the two shows I have tickets for but now I just can't fucking wait ! Bruce is on fire 🔥
Thanks for sharing.
THAT SMILE OF BRUCE. Someone else also noticed it!!! You can feel the pleasure of him singing it.
Aside from Bruce resides in the pantheon of metal gods you totally nailed this. Would have killed to have been there. Thanks Pilgrim for all tge great metal news your bringing.
Great show at the Observatory. The 4 songs he played off of the album are my 4 favorite songs from the album, and I feel they really stand out. I agree that his vocals were outstanding. I saw in in Maiden last year, and his vocals were also incredible - I don't hear a big difference in quality.
I was at the observatory show in Santa Ana it was incredible. Bruce owns the stage even on a small scale. ALSO opener Night Demon fucking slayed!!!!!
*Metal Pilgrim* *THANK YOU* *CATER*
I'd see it , for sure!! 🤟
I was at the observatory. It was one of the best shows I’ve seen. Bruce sounded amazing, and he seemed so happy and energetic. It was also funny as hell to see him banging on the drums in the back, it made me physically laugh. And the people around us, I don’t think I’ve been to a concert that had such a sense of community that the Bruce concert had. So if you can go to one of his shows please go, it will be worth it.
Finally. Been waiting for the video on Bruce solo tour. 🤩🤘
The band is killer! Best choice in case of musicians. Pure JOY!
I saw it yesterday here in Curitiba 🇧🇷 Great show, band and VOICE!
So glad you're still safe! And desperately hoping Bruce comes to Portland, OR or Seattle, WA on this tour!
Great show, guy. Respect
Show of the year for me. In the Observatory in Santa Ana the sound was great, vocals were perfect as well. He is a true rock legend with an amazing solo career as well.
Great Bruce
😎
I was at the Observatory show, honestly haven’t heard us voice sound this good since early 90s. So fortunate to see him in this setting
Perfect band
he sounds so good. im so jealous
I’ve always thought he went an extra notch for his solo stuff. He’s extra proud of it.
“Nice to see you… to see you, nice” 🤘
I agree with your review, I'am really likeing the stripped down nature of the shows to. Greetings from Canada.
It's crazy how good he sounds now. Don't get me wrong, he sounded good the last 2 Maiden tours but this is something else. And the band is perfect as well. They all sound awesome.
Bruce really going for it. I saw him on the Accident of Birth tour at the now defunct HOB Hollywood . I could feel he has a performer's fire.
No different here. Rock on, Bruce. With whomever you choose. 🤘🤘
Was at the Santa Ana show. Just such an amazing night and something I never thought I'd get to see.
Stay strong and stay safe in Ukraine.
I don´t know about US, but the concerts in Brazil had a big screen with interesting imageries for each song. Agree with all the rest, Bruce, the band, and the crew are superb!!! Let´s just not forget that the boss Steve Harris have been doing small venue concerts with British Lion for a looong time! And seeing this two icons in smaller stages shows us that they were destined to success.
Thanks for this...thinking about going to see the show in Rome.
Bruce sounds great and looks even younger on his own shows. Its very clear that he is enjoying solo project more than Maiden. And I do so)
Cool video. I saw Bruce in 1997 on the Accident of Birth tour in a New York club (Coney Island High) with Adrian Smith in the band before they rejoined Maiden. Bruce was on fire, hungry, and had something to prove...and I've never heard him sound better live before or since. Half the set was Maiden stuff and it was great hearing a more energetic drummer at the kit for those songs.
Ticket for summer fest appearance already purchased - and the new album is a goodie.
Yeah I have to agree that he (and the band) sound GREAT and very relaxed. Would have been great to be there.
Hoping beyond hope he comes back to north america for a full leg of mandrake tour after the 2nd leg of future past with the boys. Got tickets for 3 cities for that. If he comes here solo I might go to 5 shows! He's truly in his element with his own material and the freedom he doesn't get with the huge maiden shows.
Saw his first show at the Whisky, absolutely fantastic show
Bruce is another level
tour has just started, and only 3 shows so far, but bruce's voice is great, and songs from the mandrake project sound so much better live than on the album!
He sounds SMOOOOTH.
Been waiting for you to publish this one. Spot on analysis.
Seeing him in Mexico City on Saturday, can't wait!
I have tickets to see him perform here in Hamburg on June 17.. looking forward to it! Regarding your video, I was a bit surprised that you did not talk about Roy Z not playing on stage, but two (!) other guys on guitar instead...?
Cannot wait to see them at Graspop! Thanks for the video, you rule! \m/
After only knowing DiAnno in Maiden, I can so recall the first time that I saw Bruce with Iron Maiden doing run to the hills, I was blown away by his vocal range, I knew at that moment, they were going to be huge
Resurrection man is masterpiece
Can't wait to see him!
my son and i are seeing maiden here in Australia this sept so bruce can do what he likes they have earnt their time i think 🤘🤘🤘😎👍
Totally agree on NTSOTS, one of his best songs ever (I thing the same of Omega, hope to see it live one day). I have tickets for Helsinki and Tallinn gigs, first time I see Bruce live solo. Slava Ukraini!
The solo material is tuned lower which is why he sounds different performing these as opposed to Maiden material. What a great selection of songs on this run, I shed a tear during Tear of a Dragon. I wasn’t expecting Navigating the Seas of the Sun, that was always one of my favorite songs. The rest of the band sound amazing too.
Have my tickets for the show in the Netherlands here!
Assisti ao show; Extremamente objetivo é criativo, sem grandes produções... além do mais, os músicos improvisaram várias passagens, colocando a interpretação deles e soando mais natural...
I wish I could have been there
Only way it could have been better at the Observatory show is if they'd played Jerusalem and more from Accident of birth, but the show was phenomenal! Long live Bruce!!!!
No, I missed the solo shows in Oslo in the 90s. This looks very promising and Im are he is blooming doing things his own way
Dickinson is still amazing and performing at a high level for someone in their 60's. His voice is still amazing along with his energy level unlike Halford!!!🤘
I’m gonna see him tonight at Guadalajara, Mexico 🎉
Yeah, twice. In 1995 for the Balls to Picasso tour and then 1997 for the AOB tour (with Adrián)
Fun fact for Janick Gers haters: he wrote almost the entire album Tattooed Millionaire. First solo album from Bruce Dickinson after breaking up with Iron Maiden
Bruce was still in Maiden during the Tattooed Millionaire album and tour. Fear of the Dark came after this.
As Janick is the now the only permanent UK resident wouldn't it be great if he made a guest appearance at one of the gigs :)
Gers has wrote so many amazing Maiden songs, I don’t think people realize that either
Jumping around on stage like he's in his 20s
🤟🤣
I was at the Observatory gig and it was absolutely amazing.
I'm not a big fan of his style of vocals but Bruce is an incredible singer.
Bro! Just glad you have electricity. Be safe.
was the same energy on the Chemical Wedding Tour... Bruce was on fire releasing better songs than all Maiden albums since Seventh Son at that point... I think there has been something brewing within the Maiden camp for years since that point for Bruce to release all this energy on his solo albums
Wacken 02 was a great performance.
