I "discovered" Saxon recently after hearing the Talk Louder podcast rave about the new Saxon album. Shocked I was not into them when I was in my teens and 20's. Awesome band.
I actually noticed this at the Power Trip Festival last year. The crowd was so diverse as far as age goes. It was absolutely awesome to see and made me kinda happy to see. Right now is the perfect opportunity for heavy metal to make a comeback not only for the well established bands but up and coming new acts to carry the torch, so to speak.
I saw saxon one Month ago, they killed it. The Sound was great and all of them were in fire. The Audience was pretty mixed age wise, but dont let it fool you. The Crowd was nuts. Overall 10/10
I mean the New Wave of traditional Heavy Metal scene has been going on for almost two decades now. Bands like Bullet, Enforcer or Grand Magus have been going since the late 90s and early 2000s. Festivals like Keep it true or the Rock Hard festival always focused their line up on traditional Heavy Metal bands. The american and canadian scene is huge, Germany, Sweden and the UK always produced great Heavy Metal Bands and apart for maybe the 90s they never stopped. Just because there are no more giants like Maiden or Priest out there, doesn't mean the scene wasn't active in the underground and is now ready to step up as our old heroes slowly approach their retirement.
I gree whit you BUT thanks to Internet distribution got better in the Last decade, thats why it feels like a revival because everyone arround the world can listen any band at any moment . Men i think we are going to get a metal revival in the mainstream in 2030 decade
I'm 16, saw maiden twice on the future past tour and Dave murray smiled and pointed at me and my cousin, we lost our minds. All I want to do is be able to make someone feel like that with music, so as a younger generation I can confirm we are gonna give it our best shot
I think its a bit optimistic. Can new bands actually break out given how the music industry works now? When these big metal bands retire permanently I think people are going to have to resort to CD's. Where is the next generation?
I have hope that the bands who're rising to fame right now will come next. Of course noone can beat Judas Priest or Iron Maiden today given their legacy, but new bands will arise
Check out Skull Fist, Riot City, Smoulder, Traveller, Striker, Cauldron, Enforcer, Eternal Champion, Grand Magus, Crystal Viper, Kryptos, White Wizzard, Night Demon, Lucifer, just to name a few.
A few of these have been around a decade or more but some bands are finding a lot of success: Enforcer, Powerwolf, All For Metal, Sabaton, Ambush, Tailgunner, etc... And the second wave bands like HammerFall and Rhapsody are still going strong.
@@NormanDoll-rr6lh Sabaton and All For Metal are of similar age... They're pushing 40 years old now. All for Metal are more of an Opening band but they're fantastic in the right bands. PowerWolf finally made it overseas into USA but they only want to do large club, theater venues and possibly even Festival in USA. People have asked them to do small bars, music venues, but that's not something they would attempt.
HammerFall already once revived Traditional Heavy/Power Metal with "Glory to the Brave" in 1997. And they still kept it true ever since, you can find them cheesy or anything, but they did a whole lot for Traditional Heavy/Power Metal!
I saw them open for Death in Hollywood in '98 (yes, the same show that made it to DVD), and they played a cover of "Breaking the Law" as an encore, with the lead singer donning the "Marlon Brando" biker cap like Halford used to wear, and the crowd (mostly death metallers) went nuts!
just my opinion but i believe this is a response to whats going on in japan. bruce himself has already seen where it going. japan has the bands now that will be around for awhile. rock and metal will never die. but it may go female. some of the best .
I hadn’t noticed any lack of good metal, it just doesn’t get airplay or same. It never did. Word of mouth is the way. Good word is good times. I’m 57 and have over 2000 mp3s on my phone growing every month.
You're Right about releasing stuff for another 50 years, but these guys are getting older and who knows how much longer they have on earth. We definately want there well being intact.
Unleash the Archers - Phantoma! That should be an incredible album! But yes, there most certainly has been a revival in metal. Some are calling it the New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal, but it’s happening in thrash and death metal, too, maybe others as well. Awesome!
I think it's because of bands working with the right producers who understand the classic sound and the modern production is needed at the same time. Also, with younger bands calling them out as influences and especially ones who would become big from the last 25 years or so out of the nü metal, or new wave of American metal stew, that's not a bad thing to me. I mean, if Slipknot calls out Judas Priest and Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium shamelessly cover Iron Maiden, i'm glad they exist too. As for 2024, it could be a last hurrah type of situation, along with my original thought that they found the right producers and obviously, all these albums are good in their own rights.
New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal has been growing strong since the 2010s. Even though mainstream metal media mostly kept ignoring it. Best album of 2024: Morgul Blade - Heavy Metal Wraiths
Just saw KK priest, Saxon and Uriah heep and styrper recently all kicked ass and had tons of great energy 🤟. I'm 26 and I hope by the time I'm older I'll have the privilege to continue to see killer metal shows. Long may it live on 🤟
The younger crowd came for Sabaton... We stayed for Judas Priest, they got the Legacy Act right😅 But we wanted more Sabaton for at least 1 hour and 20-40 minutes
We 70s-80s Metalheads grew up, had kids, and turned our kids on to METAL! As they grew up, they realized a lot of "their" music was crap, and went back into our old music collections, and found what they needed.
This is great news, as a 62 year old metal fan since the mis 70's I've seen bands come and go, many styles come and go, but I could not get past Metal-Core at any price, I hated it. I zoned out, this exites me again.
I watched Bruce Dickinson yesterday and Accept on Wednesday in São Paulo (I'll also watch Accept again in two weeks on their extra concert here), can't wait from Priest and Saxon return also
I remember going to Ozzfest 99 in Vancouver At Thunderbird Stadium Black Sabbath System Of A Down Godsmack Deftones Slayer Fear Factory SlipKnot Static X Rob Zombie Primus and others all In one day for under 100 dollars. Was privileged and honoured to be there.
It is just amazing and amuse to me to see that people my age made fun of me for liking metal in around 2015-2018, but now they are the ones liking it too.
I am the first Fan of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal 😅 (i started at the Age of 14) and in these Days i was a RiffRaff (as AC DC sang). I had Problems with my Parents, Teachers, Neighbors and the BarbieGirls ( witch i didn't mind because in the Metalscene we didn't need Girls - for Talking 😊) Now Heavy Metal is Mainstream. On the one Hand i embrace and like it to see so many different People and young Folks. But for the young Folk it's TikTok or Amazon. Available at any Time. Very fast forgotten afterwards because they are on the Way to the next Event. To me Heavy Metal is my Life and Soul. I life for it. Keep on Rockin'
I'm not really a fan of Priest or Accept. But I listened to each new album and was very impressed! (Special shout out to Pearl Jam as their new one is phenomenal)
Exactly. Inertia. What's happening is NOT inertia. It's a refreshing. The timing is perfect and even if it's the last record they do, it's new and fresh and real. There were quite a few really good tunes on Black Sabbath's 13.
Japan has been playing metal, hard rock for years now. Nemophila, Lovebites, Band Maid, Galneryus, Bridear, Unlucky Morpheus, Babymetal, etc. all these bands heavily influenced by Maiden, Metallica, Arch EnemyGnR, Slipknot, etc. many female bands there, as music is taught heavily in schools there.
I think one of the driving factors of younger people getting into these bands is the instant access to all kinds of music. I had to get my ass to a record store to buy a physical copy if I wanted to hear something. Now my kids just have to ask “Alexa” and it comes on, and if they like a song they’ll use Pandora to find similar music. I would’ve killed for that ability when I was a kid.
maiden and priest never stopped :) i mean halfords voice is just as good at 70 as when he was 30. bruce lost his air raid, but continued on with a still pretty awesome voice
went to sepultura/sacred reich in manchester uk last year, and the crowd could hardly headbang, most of the people who i used to hang about with in the pub were propped up against walls or had walking aids, by the end of the night i was in a worse state than my first concert in 1990, headbanging like a true thrasher, even after a break of about 12 years since my last concert
As much as I agree with you, I'll go one step further. The most untapped potential in metal isn't with Thrash/Death/Black Metal acts, it's with the NWOBHM acts and their progeny. A band like Midnight would not have been popular in the early 2000s but here we are and the younger acts who want to study the discography of Tank, Tygers of Pan Tang (Jon Sykes, great guitarist), and Cirith Ungol among many others, will find fertile ground to see the experiment out. Thanks Metal Pilgrim!
I love that album, “The New Gods” by Cauldron that I see behind you. Last year, I picked up the most recent releases of several eighties bands that I hadn’t followed for decades, and I was really impressed with what I heard. It’s like all the struggles and challenges that the eighties bands faced in the nineties and naughties were overcome, and the bands found a way to sound awesome again.
1) I don't care about the WHY as to it coming back, I'm just 100% all in for it! 2) I hope like hell it's here for the long term again 3) New Saxon, Dickinson and Priest not even a third of the way into the year could only be topped by discovery of previously unreleased DIO work.
I think a big part of it that the "heaviness war" is finally coming to a head where you can't much heavier/abrasive without getting into noise music territory after 30 years of constantly pushing the boundary. So people are re-evaluating and considering that maybe what defines the quality of metal isn't who can downtune the most or make the most intelligible growl. That gives all the legacy acts and the modern revival acts doing more traditional and melodic forms of metal time to shine as people start exploring that side of the genre. Which, I have no problem with that resurgence because I'm someone rarely goes heavier than thrash and some metalcore/nu metal.
I stayed true, and tastes are slowly swinging back around to where I have stayed. I'm 50, and a huge Judas Priest fan. I just saw them in Indianapolis and it was a great show. My 24 year old step son is going to see the same show for Sabaton in Evansville soon. I really enjoyed Sabaton as an opener and would go to see them as a headliner. Metal endures. Rock on!
I really hope there is a revival of metal. I'm gearing up to release my debut in a couple months! If, like, 3 people listen to it, I'll be stoked. Doesn't matter if they hate it, haha. But man, I got into metal around 2000 and following bands like Cauldron, Holy Grail, Enforcer, Hammerfall, etc, has been great. Not to mention the "modern" era of Iron Maiden!
In my opinion, i think...being metal its not about the lyrics or obout the music, in my opinion, its obout keep the soul of "metal"....have fun, and being diferent arround all the bullshit that we have on the radio on tv. Greetings from Chile.
There is a hunger for something that isn't rap or the polished 'pop star du jour' from Big Music. There is so much social engineering going on in the media and pop culture and little in form of a rebellious movement. Punk and Metal both need a comeback.
I would love to hear your opinion on the band ANVIL and the history behind them, as well as your thoughts of why they were never able to break through as a major player in the metal scene
I think we are seeing a split happen in metal, and two very separate scenes emerge. I was a teen in the 2000s and we loved metal raging from Sabbath, to Thrash and Death metal. When metalcore and Deathcore was becoming big it felt very differnet and i would dabble but could never get into it. Now metal and metalcore genres seem to have deviated from one another and for the kost part have very seperate fan bases. I think that separation has given traditional metal room to grow again.
Another aspect for younger audience could be that the world is much unsafe place than it was in past decades. Heavy metal is safe place, proper anger management, like during cold war. There is much to say and to react that to sing about broken hearts, cars etc. (let's exclude "The Highway Star" here :) ). If we don't kill us all in the meantime, this and following years could be considered as new golden years for music in general. And metal can be very instrumental for new generations.
I'm confident that the legacy bands that are in better shape and still are writing great music can probably do so for maybe another 10 years. The bands that are in worse health and writing shape will probably retire this decade. Either way, it does feel like the 2020s are the final moments for a generation that shaped metal and rock as it is today and it will most likely be the decade where we mourn a lot of deaths in the metal world. All the more reason to go see these bands now when they are still able to perform and give great shows.
the thing i dislike about a lot of modern metal bands is that they're more about dropped tuning chug chug patterns (that started in the nu-metal era), instead of rock/blues riffs done in an aggressive "metal way" sure, there are a bunch of modern metal bands such as the agonist (farewell!), powertrip, seven spires, corelia, etc. but it's just oversaturated. back in the day, even the "worst" and most generic bands you can think of are still quite good and were doing it for passion and love of heavy music, and that's another reason why they all have the rock n' roll spirit. a lot of modern bands sound like programmed beats and stems all trying to sound heavy for the sake of being heavy. as ozzy osbourne puts it: "that's not what rock n' roll is all about!"
Heavy Metal as not only for us around 60, but has some appeal to new generations as well. But ok, I stil believe there will be a long line at the men’s toilet when Priest visits Copenhagen in June😅
I feel like I should I give Judas another spinn as I was pretty disapponted with the album, all though I have to admit that imo Panic Attack is their best song for decades :) Still I would say Bruce despite it's an album that takes a couple of spins before it hits and still there are some songs I don't like. When said 2024 has been a good year and I would give a huge shout out to Nocturna (among new generations of bands) despite being a symphonic band, as one of the best albums this year :) Speaking of new bands, who plays more classic heavy/power metal, check out Lovebites from Japan - I know their lyrics are a bit cheesy but damn they can play :) The album I am most looking forward to this year is the same as last year, the year before, the year before and even the year before that.....King Diamond, The Institute :)

Right now is the perfect opportunity for heavy metal to make a comeback not only for the well established bands but up and coming new acts to carry the torch, so to speak.
Three of the Four Albums you mentioned first were produced by Andy Sneap.
It'll take something special to beat the new Saxon album for me. Fantastic album.
The new Saxon record is special! One of their best outside of the old shit
Totally agree. It rocks so hard
I saw saxon one Month ago, they killed it. The Sound was great and all of them were in fire. The Audience was pretty mixed age wise, but dont let it fool you. The Crowd was nuts. Overall 10/10
The new Saxon stuff is probably the best thing they have ever done!
Agreed, they’re way better now than they ever were back in the day. Bloody great live too.
Listen to first 2 albums...brill
Judas Priest , Saxon and Accept❤❤❤
I think its a bit optimistic. Can new bands actually break out given how the music industry works now? When these big metal bands retire permanently I think people are going to have to resort to CD's. Where is the next generation?
I have hope that the bands who're rising to fame right now will come next. Of course noone can beat Judas Priest or Iron Maiden today given their legacy, but new bands will arise
The next generation are Slam, Hardcore Styles, Death Core
Check out Skull Fist, Riot City, Smoulder, Traveller, Striker, Cauldron, Enforcer, Eternal Champion, Grand Magus, Crystal Viper, Kryptos, White Wizzard, Night Demon, Lucifer, just to name a few.
A few of these have been around a decade or more but some bands are finding a lot of success: Enforcer, Powerwolf, All For Metal, Sabaton, Ambush, Tailgunner, etc... And the second wave bands like HammerFall and Rhapsody are still going strong.
@@NormanDoll-rr6lh
Sabaton and All For Metal are of similar age...
And these bands have been getting no promotion on mainstream media whatsoever.
HammerFall already once revived Traditional Heavy/Power Metal with "Glory to the Brave" in 1997. And they still kept it true ever since, you can find them cheesy or anything, but they did a whole lot for Traditional Heavy/Power Metal!
Exactly! That's partially an argument that I also make in the video ;)
Will see Priest tomorrow night in Huntsville Al wearing Metal Pilgrim shirt. 💪🤘🏼👍
I just saw them with my son in Youngstown, OH....hope you enjoyed the show as much as we did. It blistered and shredded!
@@DEE-o4v Glad you and your son enjoyed it. I went with my son too. It was an incredible show.
LOVEBITES! 🤘🏼🐺🤘🏼
just my opinion but i believe this is a response to whats going on in japan. bruce himself has already seen where it going. japan has the bands now that will be around for awhile. rock and metal will never die. but it may go female. some of the best .
We stayed for Judas Priest, they got the Legacy Act right😅
But we wanted more Sabaton for at least 1 hour and 20-40 minutes
We 70s-80s Metalheads grew up, had kids, and turned our kids on to METAL! As they grew up, they realized a lot of "their" music was crap, and went back into our old music collections, and found what they needed.
Just saw Judas Priest in Albany NY. and they were killing it. Absolutely awesome show.
Saw them in Syracuse. The show was awesome.
My daughters (6 and 3) ask me to put on rock and roll music every day when i get home from work. The first song they ask for is Breaking the Law!
This is great news, as a 62 year old metal fan since the mis 70's I've seen bands come and go, many styles come and go, but I could not get past Metal-Core at any price, I hated it. I zoned out, this exites me again.
I love thrash metal but it's always good to go back to good ol' times where everything started. So heavy metal is what we all started with. Nostalgia.
I watched Bruce Dickinson yesterday and Accept on Wednesday in São Paulo (I'll also watch Accept again in two weeks on their extra concert here), can't wait from Priest and Saxon return also
I remember going to Ozzfest 99 in Vancouver At Thunderbird Stadium Black Sabbath System Of A Down Godsmack Deftones Slayer Fear Factory SlipKnot Static X Rob Zombie Primus and others all
In one day for under 100 dollars. Was privileged and honoured to be there.
Yes, I have been seeing a lot of younger people at the shows i've been going to. Honestly I love see all the young people at the show 🖤🦇💀💣⚡️🤘
It is just amazing and amuse to me to see that people my age made fun of me for liking metal in around 2015-2018, but now they are the ones liking it too.
Invincible Shield🤘
This album is outta this world honestly. AS GOD IS MY WITNESS is just a fuckin powerful masterpiece
Agreed. It’s gonna end up being one of their very best.
I am the first Fan of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal 😅 (i started at the Age of 14) and in these Days i was a RiffRaff (as AC DC sang). I had Problems with my Parents, Teachers, Neighbors and the BarbieGirls ( witch i didn't mind because in the Metalscene we didn't need Girls - for Talking 😊)
Now Heavy Metal is Mainstream.
Vlad my friend, you’re the best! Super nice vid! Metal Forever!
This july judas priest, bruce dickinson and accept are performing together in greece. It's one of the things that keep me alive
Don't forget that these artists have a lifetime of perfecting their craft!
🤘🏽NWOTHM RULES!🤘🏽
maiden and priest never stopped :) i mean halfords voice is just as good at 70 as when he was 30. bruce lost his air raid, but continued on with a still pretty awesome voice
I wouldn’t yet say it’s lost
Saxon has been more consistent than both Maiden and Priest for the past 25 years.
@AceCourageRockManiaci think the man himself would say the same.
I love today's Love Bites version..:-)@AceCourageRockManiac
@@wallofrock6725 What saddens me the most is the fact Saxon have always stood in the shadows of both above mentioned bands. They deserve MUCH more
went to sepultura/sacred reich in manchester uk last year, and the crowd could hardly headbang, most of the people who i used to hang about with in the pub were propped up against walls or had walking aids, by the end of the night i was in a worse state than my first concert in 1990, headbanging like a true thrasher, even after a break of about 12 years since my last concert
Love the new JP album ….. decent SAXON album : I just saw them last night
It never went away.
53y/o metal head, married 34 years, father of 2, on his way to see Judas Priest and Sabaton in Charlotte, NC. METAL WILL NEVER DIE !!!
Seen Priest multiple times in the 80s. Would Love to see them now.
At 21/7 I will see three legends here in Athens,Greece Judas priest, Bruce Dickinson, Accept!I couldn't be happier!
1) I don't care about the WHY as to it coming back, I'm just 100% all in for it!
2) I hope like hell it's here for the long term again
3) New Saxon, Dickinson and Priest not even a third of the way into the year could only be topped by discovery of previously unreleased DIO work.
🤘🏼 *Thanks, Vlad!* 🤘🏼
Metal is Forever 🤘
Just saw Priest....Helluva show....absolutely BLISTERING! Took my son.....we jammed. Killer show!
Rock on!
Heavy Metal for Eternity!
This is the sound of real metal, those were classic bands, often imitated but nothing beats real classic metal.
Seems like a lot of older bands are out on the road a lot this year
I really hope there is a revival of metal.
Kamelot, Hammerfall, Infinitum are touring right now 😅
@@tsohgallik ill have to check if they are playing the US!
Being there from the beginning for these bands I am so excited that like me, they are going to grow old disgracefully.
In my opinion, i think...being metal its not about the lyrics or obout the music, in my opinion, its obout keep the soul of "metal"....have fun, and being diferent arround all the bullshit that we have on the radio on tv. Greetings from Chile.
Great reporting , love your channel. Thank you
Without new fans and bands any type of music will die.
Age will not weary our metal warriors, they just keep banging
Morbid Saint relessed an awesome new album as well. They should have been much bigger than they are. Highly underrated band
Hammerfall ❤ you're not wrong there. 😊
I saw Judas Priest last Saturday in Alpharetta GA Halford was , is and it will be the best singer ever !!!
Love Hammerfall!!! Can’t believe they are not as big as other metal bands. They have been around a long time and they are excellent live or recorded.
Saw Priest Thursday night at Rockville in Daytona Beach
Great video as always, thank you
Great talk, Vlad!
Don't forget Mercyful Fate. 😈
I’ve noticed a rise in 80’s nostalgia; this could be contributing
I'm confident that the legacy bands that are in better shape and still are writing great music can probably do so for maybe another 10 years. The bands that are in worse health and writing shape will probably retire this decade. Either way, it does feel like the 2020s are the final moments for a generation that shaped metal and rock as it is today and it will most likely be the decade where we mourn a lot of deaths in the metal world. All the more reason to go see these bands now when they are still able to perform and give great shows.
the thing i dislike about a lot of modern metal bands is that they're more about dropped tuning chug chug patterns (that started in the nu-metal era), instead of rock/blues riffs done in an aggressive "metal way"
sure, there are a bunch of modern metal bands such as the agonist (farewell!), powertrip, seven spires, corelia, etc. but it's just oversaturated.
back in the day, even the "worst" and most generic bands you can think of are still quite good and were doing it for passion and love of heavy music, and that's another reason why they all have the rock n' roll spirit.
a lot of modern bands sound like programmed beats and stems all trying to sound heavy for the sake of being heavy. as ozzy osbourne puts it: "that's not what rock n' roll is all about!"
Heavy Metal as not only for us around 60, but has some appeal to new generations as well. But ok, I stil believe there will be a long line at the men’s toilet when Priest visits Copenhagen in June😅
Cauldron is one of many great 🇨🇦metal bands .
