Stained class will always be my favourite. Such a unique sound and the vocals on the title track is insane. Not to mention the albuk artwork is iconic.
Point if Entry is a brilliant album! Shockingly experimental, in my opinion. Arguably my favorite
8 месяцев назад
As Halford stated in his autobiography Point of Entry was heavily influenced by his love to alcohol. They had literally partied on Ibiza all day long and then entered studio and started recording. Its a fun album to me. A very relaxed one. No pressure, just fun. Btw love Solar Angels and Desert Plains with the first mentioned being on my TOP 10 list the latter mentioned being on my TOP 20 Priest songs list
Great video, enjoyed this ranking style. I also love Ram it Down and agree that it is overlooked, would love to hear the title track live. Very excited for the new record and can't wait to see them next month. Really sorry you're unable to see them this time, hoping for the madness to end soon.
I watched your review, and i ABSOLUTELY LOVE the way you set it up! I fully agree with every album category, EXCEPT I think Demolition should have gone into the 'breaking the law' category... Because Demolition has a lot of innovative ideas on it, that have never been on any Priest album before, or after it... And though I have seen that many fans can't stand Demolition, I myself LOVE all but 5 songs on it. Metal Messiah, In Between, One On One, in my mind, Devil Digger are totally amazing, and very much push Demolition into the 'breaking the law' section in my mind. Thank you for doing this review! I really loved watching it!
I watched the entire video and I loved it!! I can't wait to listen to Invincible Shield in its entirety. Btw: My ranking would be something like this: Demolition Nostradamus Rocka Rolla Ram it Down Point of Entry Turbo Jugulator Redeemer of Souls Angel of Retribution Firepower Killing Machine Sin After Sin British Steel Sad Wings of Destiny Defenders of the Faith Stained Class Screaming for Vengeance Painkiller But, to be honest, it could change any day 😅🤘
Im happy that you said that the Ram It Down album Is underappreciated by the fans and i am with you on that, i love Ram It Down so much that i think that album is so underrated and that Invincible Shield is in the How TF category is pretty awesome like i said before cannot wait
Absolutely do a Maiden Ranking in this format. Also begin plans for other bands as well. This is perhaps the best and most creative album ranking this genre of video has ever seen. I thoroughly enjoyed the way each album received the respect it was due and the way some of the maligned albums in their catalog were supported by fan favorites that resided in the same category. You gave these albums perspective without causing dissent among the fans on their ranking. Bravo maestro 👏
My personal fave is Sin After Sin. Great stuff. I remember reading that Joan Baez liked Priest's remake of Diamonds and Rust. It's so very different from her rendition, and still so great. As for the video, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I hope you'll make more, especially one for my favorite band, Motorhead.
I gave up seeing them live this year since it's not the same without KK and Glenn but if they'd play this live, I'd go just for the song. Amazing and overlooked 70s masterpiece.
Masterpiece and deepest of cuts. During their retrospective tour a handful our years back I found Rob’s email and reached out and begged them to do this song. Long shot ….and they pulled out Never Satisfied instead which was cool but……Ian really shines in this track.
@@davidknichal6629 what surprise? Rocka Rolla will be re-released since Gull sold the rights to another label, I doubt there'd be plans to re-record that old something ever
Excellent job - you certainly know your stuff! Incidentally, for exactly the same reasons you love Defenders of the Faith, I find myself always drawn back to Sad Wings of Destiny 🤟 And you're absolutely right about Overkill too 👍
Great video and really like how you have categorised/mapped the albums, you can tell you love the band! I feel the same way. This band has been with me and seen me through life's ups and downs since I was 13, I am now rapidly approaching 60, WTF! There will never be another metal band with such a diverse, far reaching and influential sound. Keep up the good work and rock on!
Judas Priest is one of my favorite bands, so I really enjoy your videos. Defenders of the faith Stained class Screaming for vengeance Painkiller Sad wings of Destiny Rocka rolla Sin after sin British Steel are my favorites. All albums are good But they are the ones I like the most. Keep it real! Cheers!
So many great albums that ranking would be agonizing. Love the categorization. The British Steel, Screaming, Defenders may be the best run in metal ! There is something about Painkiller though….kills from start to finish and doesn’t have a weak song on it! 🤘
At last a ranking of Judas Priest albums that felt honest and respectful to a mind-blowing volume of high quality metal. Watched every minute - only a true JP fan can make a great video like this! 🤘🏼
A couple of years ago I spent a week only listening to Nostradamus... I think I kinda love it. Even in Rob's book he mentions that he thinks people will warm to it more over time.
Every reasonable rock and metal fan has to appreciate all the efforts Priest guys put into this album. Its a opus magnum with pros and cons but a huge step forward. AC/DC would have not been able to produce album like that inho
Funny, I'm doing that this week! In anticipation of the new album and because I noticed I hadn't listened to it in 10 years. It's not as bad as I remember, but I also loved it when it came out but grew to be very disappointed. There's some good stuff on there, but also a lot of filler that isn't really worth going back to on a whim. A trimmed down cut would've sat better with a lot of people.
Everything is subjective. For me Nostradamus is just brilliant! But I also like a lot of progressive and theme album bands. I absolutely love his clean singing on this album, but the screams he does, especially in the title track are just phenomenal.
Thanks for this video, it is always fun to talk about the best metal bands and their albums over their history. Judas Priest has been in my top 3 favorite bands for about 45 years now.
I crank my car radio all the way whenever an Invincible Shield song comes on. Incredibly grateful they're still able to put out music like this so long into their career!
Very well done! Always interesting to hear about my favorite band, this was a new approach-thank you for that! (Please correct Rob´s "Fight" at 22:16, there is "Flight")
Great video, MP! A unique, insightful and entertaining way to rank this mighty metal discography 🤘 PLEASE follow this up with a ranking video for That Other Band 🥹
I wasn't able to follow anything a girl just broke my heart but your voice talking about JP albums is comforting. I agree with everything I was able to absorb, Sad Wings of Destiny is my favourite source of live songs. Victim of Changes at my first JP concert. A very fond memory. Slava my friend. Be safe. My thoughts are with your people.
Amazing job on this. I loved your presentation and ranking system for my all time favorite metal band. Can't wait for Invincible shield! For the record my all time favorite is the one that introduced me to the band... Defenders of the Faith!
Cool ranking! I'm a blind guy over here, and I can totally visualize the way the mighty Metal Pilgram layed it all out there. And I love the point about how the debut album was necessary in the way Priest would end up evolving, rather than a nnice polished sound that we'd have to live with.
Great ranking of JP's discography! It's a little weird, but I like it, because the same thing happens to me with some albums that just had to happen for the good of the band today and it's a great exercise to prepare for the next album Invincible Shield. Also, it would be great to incorporate solo albums from members like Halford, Fight, and KK Priest.
Definitely do something similar for Maiden! British Steel was my introduction to Priest (I wish that I still had that vinyl), and then Point of Entry. My 10 year old self had no idea about the older albums…I just thought that is what Priest sounds like, not that they played it safe. A couple years later some guy in art class lent me Unleashed in the East. Mind blown. Thanks for doing these amazing videos
The thing that I love so much about this album, as blisteringly insane as the title track is, it’s maybe my 5th or 6th favorite track on the album! Hell Patrol took the spot as my all time favorite Priest song when it was released and never surrendered it!
Your criteria are very good and the categorization is very creative. I arrived at the video irritated because Redeemer Of Souls is a FANTASTIC album and everyone just complains and despises it for having bad production blablabla, but your way of putting things is perfect and I don't disagree with anything on the list. Congratulations. And make the IRON MAIDEN tier list!!!!!!!!!!
I was one of those people that started listening to Priest in 86 when Turbo came out. I was in my first year of high school and have loved that album ever since. Sad Wings through Stained Class plus Point of Entry and Turbo are my top 5. I agree that Invincible Shield is a fantastic album. I think it's the best thing they've done since the 80s, with Firepower close behind. I don't think they've ever put out a bad album. I like the way you categorized all the albums.
I enjoy the band's career, but I don't know every song/album, so it's hard for me to realistically rank them. But I enjoyed your ranking and rationale. It was interesting to hear your opinions. I'm seeing them in Glasgow 🏴 next week, really looking forward to the show🤘 Sending you guys lots of love🇺🇦
Great way to describe a Band with this extensive discography. Screaming For Vengeance is my star record; also because it came during my youth and during a very tough and intense segment of my life. Keep Rocking these videos, you’re super cool, from a fellow fan all the from Whitby, Ontario, Canada. 🤘
I think the problem with Nostradamus is that it's essentially a story and it sounds right only if you listen through the whole record. At least thats how I like it, and I love this album, it's musical, dramatic, complete.
Been a Massive Priest fan up until 2011, got to agree with everything you said, D.O.T.F is my favourite album too but my favourite track (never played live) is Reckless. B.T.W the A.O.R album was almost called Judas Rising 🤘
Cannot agree more that "Turbo" is underrated and "Reckless" is GREAT ! "Private Property" and "Wild Nights, Hot & Crazy Days" are criminally underrated gems ! "Screaming For Vengeance" does beat out "Defenders of the Faith" to me... but there's barely any daylight between them, I love them both so much. I don't know why they didn't stick with Judas Rising".
As one ages, Run of the Mill hits ya hard. Rob's inflection on the word "gutter" is classic Rob. And those ending high notes, wow!!! Ibdo have to add, The Future of Mankind is an under-rated song in my opinion. It just wraps that complation album to a tee! Thanks for your rating and including the two albums with Ripper. Good way to describe their importance.
1 Sin After Sin (very unique pioneering sound at the time:double bass drumming and very aggressive style) 2 Stained Class (best drummer they ever had: Les Binks+best guitar solo of Glenn :Beyond The Realms Of Death+best riffs and guitar melodies they ever create) 3 Painkiller ('77-'78 Priest Sound reinterpreted in 1990 metal standards) 4 Defenders Of The Faith (very technical and creative guitar solos + catchy and heavy songs at the same time) 5 Screaming For Vengeance
Saw these guys two nights ago and was blown away about how great they were. First saw them in 1977 when they were an opening band for Led Zeppelin in Oakland, CA and it was that show that made me a fan.
love how you respect the Tim 'Ripper' Owens albums, I love them myself. Love all 70s albums and my personal favourite Screaming for Vengeance. Always thought Turbo was overrated.
Very good video. I know we are in the minority but I really like Nostradamus myself :-). Defenders of the Faith is one of my favorites as well. It was my first JP record I listened to in 1984.
Even if you dont do another ranking, just general reviews of a bands entire discography in a single video would be awsome. Bands like maiden, motorhead, sabbath, accept etc. Ps: love your tier system
Thank you for this review! 6th April going to see Priest in Milan after a 40 year "pause", got a lot of catching up to do! My first lp bought...British Steel, lost touch after Defenders of the Faith. Thanks again!
I would love for them to play Nostradamus (the song) live. Say what you want about that album but that song is heavy as anything on Painkiller. Panic Attack is amazing. It pumps me up every time i hear it. The rest of the songs I've heard off 'Shield' haven't really done that. I still think Jugulator is under rated. Some HEAVY songs on that one. Bullet Train and Death Row in particular.
I just want to say that I LOVE this channel so much - I've never "met" anyone before who is as big of a Judas Priest nerd as me 😂 I'm so looking forward to the new album! 😊
For me, I first heard 'British Steel' and it attracted my attention. But, 'Screaming for Vengeance ' busted the door down and allowed me to go back in time and then follow forward. Can you imagine i was dissapointed with Defenders, bc , it came out after SfV. Ha ha on me, its Stellar, and i really appreciate it immensely now. So, honorable mention for Gems that never got the love they deserve: 'Run of the Mill', 'Solar Angels', 'Here comes the Tears', 'Demonizer' , and 'Steeler'. For the record, Nostradamus is Magnificent.
Great ranking system, and very difficult to criticize or disagree with. In my opinion, it's near impossible to rank Judas Priest albums in a more traditional way, as every single one of them has it's own strengths and (sometimes) weaknesses. I was personally introduced to them with Turbo, which also got me into the whole metal genre and has remained one of my favorite albums of all time to this date, even if I do recognize it may be due to more sentimental reasons than anything else. I'm also glad to hear you speak well of Tim Owens time in the band, as I really enjoyed both Jugulator and Demolition. The one album I always felt was somewhat overrated has to be British Steel. In no way is it a "bad" album, but I guess that anything making the rounds on the mainstream radio stations just rubs me the wrong way for some reason. It's a really good album for reaching out to more people, just not for me. It's funny, therefore, to hear you placing Turbo in the same "Mainstream" category as British Steel, as I never perceived it that way. I always thought it was disliked by the older fans because of the synthesizers, but didn't realize that some think of it the same way I feel about British Steel.
Absolutely loved the video!! I hope you will do this for the Iron Maiden albums as well!!
8 месяцев назад
What I love about this ranking is the fact there are no labels kinda worst, bad, good album etc. I mean it is impossible to rank any kind of albums in general, because there will ALWAYS be somebody who absolutely adores that concrete bashed album because of his personal memories attached to that album regardless of the quality or production of the record. You may smash me but one of my fav records is Nostradamus. While it might not be their best album on my part there is no emotional attachment to this record (was not JP fan until June 2011) I love the fact band tried to innovate and go "prog".
Thanks for sharing your insights. Apart from what I've heard on the radio, I've been largely unfamiliar with Judas Priest's back catalogue of music, so I'll certainly keep your recommendations in mind. As for what band's album ranking you tackle next, YES PLEASE for IRON MAIDEN!!! 🤘🤘
I really love the way you ranked the albums. I agree with most of your rankings. The only ones I would swap would be Sad Wings/Sin with Stained Class/Killing Machine. I think Sad Wings and Sin were unique and set the way for the following two. Call for the Priest as a speed metal song predates Exciter, and Rob had already begun his trade mark high pitched vocals around this time. Sure Image wise, Stained Class and Killing Machine set the way for metal fashion and the look, but if we’re talking strictly about the music, Sad Wings and Sin were the template for speed and dynamics. Yes Rocka Rolla had plenty of dynamics with songs such as Dying to Meet You, Run of the Mill and Winter/Winter Retreat/Cheater, but it hadn’t been perfected.
Definitely look forward to an Iron Maiden ranking like this. I’d also love to see one on Saxon, another of my favorite bands… Such great insights into Judas Priest, which makes me want to delve into some of the albums I overlooked… British Steel remains a favorite, along with Screaming For Vengeance and Stained Class… will definitely check out the more recent albums…
Like you, my favorite was Defenders! It may be Invincible Shield now! The new album is so great. As God is My Witness, Invincible Shield, Serpent and the King, Fight for your life are as good as anything they have released. Glens riff in Escape From Reality is so nasty. Love everything on it, even the odd, The Lodger is really cool.
I'm not a fan of their albums before British Steel but this video inspired me to listen to their whole catalogue again. Maybe my opinion on some records has changed.
Good stuff! I often feel like I’m the only Priest fan who really likes Nostradamus. I guess maybe it’s because I’m not just a metal fan, I’m a prog fan as well as of many things that are conceptual and orchestral. But I get why fans who just want to hear Breaking the Law-type songs would hate it. It takes some time investment to appreciate.
Impossible to say which Priest album is the best to me, I love them all, so I totally agree with your list. Amendment: I also like Nostradamus a lot although it´s not a typical Priest album.

Even though it is a masterpiece
Side 2 of Sin After Sin may be their most intense 4 consecutive songs ever. It's become my go to when I need about 20 minutes of pure Priest glory.
Stained class will always be my favourite.
Such a unique sound and the vocals on the title track is insane. Not to mention the albuk artwork is iconic.
Great video with valid points across the board. Stay safe man 🤘
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
@@MetalPilgrim Sad Wings Of Destiny (1976) was their best album
Point if Entry is a brilliant album! Shockingly experimental, in my opinion. Arguably my favorite
Criminally underrated album, to me it's a lot better than the overrated Defenders and Painkiller two rather mediocre albums.
I'd personally put Sin After Sin and Stained Class in 'Breaking The Law' category and Killing Machine under 'Riding On The Wind'. Nice video!
Btw: My ranking would be something like this:
Demolition
Nostradamus
Rocka Rolla
Ram it Down
Point of Entry
Turbo
Jugulator
Redeemer of Souls
Angel of Retribution
Firepower
Killing Machine
Sin After Sin
British Steel
Sad Wings of Destiny
Defenders of the Faith
Stained Class
Screaming for Vengeance
Painkiller
But, to be honest, it could change any day 😅🤘
I agree with the best and the weakest albums on this list and in general, although I would swap Jugulator with Sin After Sin, nice list! 🤘
my top 3 priest albums are PAINKILLER, DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH, and BRITISH STEEL.
To me I swap "Screaming For Vengeance" in for "Painkiller", but otherwise, that's a solid list !
Im happy that you said that the Ram It Down album Is underappreciated by the fans and i am with you on that, i love Ram It Down so much that i think that album is so underrated and that Invincible Shield is in the How TF category is pretty awesome like i said before cannot wait
The title track and Love You To Death are some of my favorite JP songs.
Run of the mill is brilliant
IMO, the most underrated and overlooked JP song and one of their best
@@libero3493 I love it
I gave up seeing them live this year since it's not the same without KK and Glenn but if they'd play this live, I'd go just for the song. Amazing and overlooked 70s masterpiece.
Dying to meet you also.
Masterpiece and deepest of cuts. During their retrospective tour a handful our years back I found Rob’s email and reached out and begged them to do this song. Long shot ….and they pulled out Never Satisfied instead which was cool but……Ian really shines in this track.
The Epitaph performance of Never Satisfied goes so hard. I wish they re-recorded Rocka Rolla with that kind of aggression
I guess the re-recording of Rocka Rolla is THAT surprise Judas Priest announced in advance Last year. Its gonna be huge!
@@davidknichal6629 what surprise? Rocka Rolla will be re-released since Gull sold the rights to another label, I doubt there'd be plans to re-record that old something ever
I really did think it was THAT surprise guys prepared for us. If not then ask Metal Pilgrim he knows more than we all do 😅
I love most of their catalogue, I think I ranked Stained Class as their number one record when I did a rank. It don't get much better than Priest.
Awesome, show! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinions. Much appreciated 😊👍🤘💯
Excellent job - you certainly know your stuff! Incidentally, for exactly the same reasons you love Defenders of the Faith, I find myself always drawn back to Sad Wings of Destiny 🤟 And you're absolutely right about Overkill too 👍
It's amazing how fresh and top tier these past 2 Priest albums have been. Great work Richie Faulkner!
Perfect 🤟. Many thanx. Greetings from Poland.
Judas Priest is one of my favorite bands, so I really enjoy your videos.
Defenders of the faith
Stained class
Screaming for vengeance
Painkiller
Sad wings of Destiny
Rocka rolla
Sin after sin
British Steel
are my favorites.
All albums are good
But they are the ones I like the most.
Keep it real!
Cheers!
I agree with you with the favorites albums, Defender of the Faith and Painkiller, are my favorites too
So many great albums that ranking would be agonizing.
Man I love these videos. Thanks for making them. 🤘
My very personal top 3:
3 - Sad Wings of Destiny
2 - British Steel
1 - Painkiller
I crank my car radio all the way whenever an Invincible Shield song comes on. Incredibly grateful they're still able to put out music like this so long into their career!
Very well done! Always interesting to hear about my favorite band, this was a new approach-thank you for that!
(Please correct Rob´s "Fight" at 22:16, there is "Flight")
Thank you! Oh man, sorry for the mistake, unfortunately can't change it at this point! Will be more attentive next time...
this was awesome man. Hyped for new album!
Great video, MP!
A unique, insightful and entertaining way to rank this mighty metal discography 🤘
PLEASE follow this up with a ranking video for That Other Band 🥹
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it!
Firepower belongs in the Painkiller column.
amazing video, love your passion for this band!
Well done sir! A fantastic summary and analysis. I watched the entire thing. Priest rules!
Painkiller isn't just a great Judas Priest album, it's an all time great metal album, period. It's a rare 'All Killer, No Filler' record.
so much killer that even the b-side track was a perfect 10
The thing that I love so much about this album, as blisteringly insane as the title track is, it’s maybe my 5th or 6th favorite track on the album! Hell Patrol took the spot as my all time favorite Priest song when it was released and never surrendered it!
Apart from the title song. I really hate that song
Absolutely amazing Judas priest review
Thanks, that was a very cool way to review a great catalog of albums.
I think your tier rankings are brilliant. I've been a diehard Priest fan since 1983, and Defenders is also my favorite Priest album. I adore Priest.
This is how you do ranking videos. Perfect format.
Jugulator is super underrated. Lots of bangers on that one.
Perfect ranking, the only way I could agree more is by listening to invincible shield and seeing what I think
I enjoy the band's career, but I don't know every song/album, so it's hard for me to realistically rank them. But I enjoyed your ranking and rationale. It was interesting to hear your opinions.
I'm seeing them in Glasgow 🏴 next week, really looking forward to the show🤘
Sending you guys lots of love🇺🇦
Great way to describe a Band with this extensive discography. Screaming For Vengeance is my star record; also because it came during my youth and during a very tough and intense segment of my life. Keep Rocking these videos, you’re super cool, from a fellow fan all the from Whitby, Ontario, Canada. 🤘
That's some very unusual tier listing, great video.
I think the problem with Nostradamus is that it's essentially a story and it sounds right only if you listen through the whole record. At least thats how I like it, and I love this album, it's musical, dramatic, complete.
I love Point of Entry along with the other great ones
Been a Massive Priest fan up until 2011, got to agree with everything you said, D.O.T.F is my favourite album too but my favourite track (never played live)
is Reckless.
Great video. I loved your thoughtful ranking that wasn't just subjective.
1 Sin After Sin (very unique pioneering sound at the time:double bass drumming and very aggressive style)
2 Stained Class (best drummer they ever had: Les Binks+best guitar solo of Glenn :Beyond The Realms Of Death+best riffs and guitar melodies they ever create)
3 Painkiller ('77-'78 Priest Sound reinterpreted in 1990 metal standards)
4 Defenders Of The Faith (very technical and creative guitar solos + catchy and heavy songs at the same time)
5 Screaming For Vengeance
Best ranking of JP I've seen on yt. And yes, Nostradamus is great!
Haven't listened to the latest album but very much encouraged and looking forward after you put it in the same category as Painkiller! 😮
This was a great video, positive all the way through it. Something good to say for each record, even if I don’t care for a few of them.
Can't wait for a "Rank' em all" 😛
Great episode!!. Loved every moment of it! ❤ from Australia ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Judas Priest is my favourite metal band ever and been so since my last school year 1982. I listened to British Steel and i was sold.
Now I wait for Invisible Shield in x25 more
Great ranking system, and very difficult to criticize or disagree with.
Great layout of Priest history.
I’d also love to see one on Saxon, another of my favorite bands…
Such great insights into Judas Priest, which makes me want to delve into some of the albums I overlooked… British Steel remains a favorite, along with Screaming For Vengeance and Stained Class… will definitely check out the more recent albums…
Like you, my favorite was Defenders! It may be Invincible Shield now! The new album is so great. As God is My Witness, Invincible Shield, Serpent and the King, Fight for your life are as good as anything they have released. Glens riff in Escape From Reality is so nasty. Love everything on it, even the odd, The Lodger is really cool.
great job sir that was very enjoyable!!!!
You re not the only one bro. There are many of us who appreciate their attempt to Explorer Brand new Realms of prog metal
Impossible to say which Priest album is the best to me, I love them all, so I totally agree with your list. Amendment: I also like Nostradamus a lot although it´s not a typical Priest album.
