- Scorpions Love at First Sting is a quintessential… and at the same time one of the most triggering Heavy Metal albums of the 1980s. Released on the 27th of March in 1984 Love at First Sting became the ninth studio album by the legendary German band Scorpions. So to celebrate its 40th anniversary let’s take a look at the history behind and some strange fact around it, and then discuss how this record has changed it all not only for Scorpions, but for Heavy Metal overall. Here you go!

Have you ever seen Scorpions live? Do you plan to do it this year on Love at First Sing 40th Anniversary tour?
saw them live, nothing to write about.
I doubt I'll ever see them live because they refuse to tour Canada.
Seen 10 times Wacken and in Uk.
Again admire their stamina but time to retire now and keep the memories
@@747jono yeah, we don't want them being the Rolling Bones (way pas expiration date)
@@therabbitcanada Absolutely lets remember the good times mate
Their golden era was Lovedrive to Crazy World. All gold in those albums.
For some it would be everything up to Lovedrive but they really do have an amazing catalogue.
Nope, Uli Roth era was the golden era, really hard and epic music at that time, among peers
@@user-vb3vf3sq2e In Trance was always my favorite ( and Tokyo Tapes )
I'd extend it one album further to Face The Heat, some great underrated heavy hitters on that one.
You are correct! Up to Lovedrive, the only albums talked about are In Trance & Virgin Killers! In Trance for its music & VK for its controversial cover! The bands most successful period & most popular period is LD-Crazy World!
My 1st rock gig was Scorpions,Blackout tour 1982,Edinburgh Playhouse. The band even signed autographs after gig.
Animal Magnetism is my favorite Scorpions album, with The Zoo being my favorite song. Man, I love them. They were one of the best groups of the late 70's and 80's. Saw them in 2010 and they still sounded great! How are they not in the hall of Fame?!?!?
F*** the hall of fame.
Because they are german and being english is already bad
Love Animal Magnetism. The album and the track
Rock You Like A Hurricane is one of those songs that I’ve heard so many times that I could go the rest of my life without hearing it again.
They had a few "controversial" album covers. I loved it. I grew up a Scorpions fan. Took my son to see them last year. Great band. They have a lot of really great deep cuts.
Seriously this album is triggering? They had an album called virgin killer before this for crying out loud. Not to mention other album covers. FYI love the band and feel like this was click bait.
So much yt is clickbait
@@arthurmurfitt7698 Unfortunately true, but still sucks as it shouldn't be; Especially on a channel like this!
He probably wasn't wrong, people forget the resurgence of right wing Christians in the 80's in the U.S. I grew up in the 80's, though I grew up in a more libertarian part of the country (Las Vegas). I was a bit young when this album came out, so I don't remember much controversy. It seems tame compared to even what Jim Morrison was doing in his live version of Gloria much earlier. Bands like Kiss had songs like Lick it Up (though I'm not sure if that came out before or after this album). But people did complain in those days, mostly about content on TV. But I do seem to remember some complaints about the Slippery when Wet cover as well.
Yeah, that original Virgin Killer album cover might actually get someone arrested nowadays.
Or Animal Magnetism! Virgin Killer Kickz Azz
I'll be seeing Scorpions next Thursday in Vegas!!
“Love at First Sting” was my entry into Scorpions and I prefer “Blackout” as well. Most, if not all their albums have at least a couple great tracks imo.
I discovered the Scorpions with “Tokyo Tapes” when it was first released. It’s still my favorite Scorpions album.🎧
Yeah, that's a great album!
Thank you for finally giving one of my favorite bands some love. Love at first sting was my first scorpions album. Fell in love. I love the uli Jon roth era the best but I love them all. Except for eye to eye. I pretend that album doesn't exist. I am gonna see them twice in Vegas.
I hated Eye to Eye at first, but quite a few tracks really grew on me, such as Yellow Butterfly, Mind Like A Tree, Skywriter, A Moment in a Million Years and 10,000 Light Years Away. Give it another spin with an open mind - you may change your mind.
Yes .. more Scorpions please! Great video… thank you!
Firat 6 albums are their best albums. Fly to the rainbow being my favourite one with In Trance and Virgin Killer. Noone can touch Uli Jon Roth
Lots of gems on those earlier albums, The Sails of Charon just one example, what a great song!
Except Michael Schenker who wrote & played on 80% of Lovedrive.
@@paulfitzpatrick6566- Michael didn’t write 80% of Lovedrive. That is patently false.
@@crusheverything4449 he wrote 6 out of the 8 songs on Lovedrive.
And all the solos.
That’s more than 80% & thats patently true.
@@paulfitzpatrick6566 - Nope. I’ve spent a lot of time around Scorpions and their management. Michael played more on Lovedrive than he was credited for, but he did not write 80% of Lovedrive, unless you take Michael’s overstatements as facts. Rudolf is obviously playing some of the solos on the album in his own distinctive style.
I've just ended to watch all the 3 live premiere on Scorpions youtube Channel for this Aniversary of Love at first Sting. What could i say? it's my second favourite band after Iron Maiden. I love every songs on that record. Songs like I'm living you and Big City Nights are those songs i wish to be born in the 60th and living my 20teen in the magic of 80th. LONG LOVE Scorpions. Unfortunally this year i could not be able to go in one of their concert but i hope, next year, they will come back in Italy (my country). Love Scorpions!!
Saw them a few times in the early 80s. Incredible live act. Them and Judas Priest were my favorite bands at the time.
I definitely agree with you about Blackout being their best record, even though my favourite song will always be Wind of Change. Scorpions definitely have one of the most impressive and diverse catalogues of music in the metal scene and they have always been 100% authentic and genuine rock and roll.
It’s still strange to me that some don’t consider the Scorpions ‘metal’. Even though all the elements of ‘metal’ are there. Well. With the exception of all the aggressive angst.
@@bevh46294 the first golden era is hard rock , the lovedrive and on is heavy metal .. but they jump from one to another still so it's kinda a mix :D
I’m the only 1 here that mentions Savage Amusement I LOVRME that CD…..Eye to Eye & everything after that they changed their sound esp the bass, sounded like they wanted more of a Nickelback sound, no catchy songs anymore….would line to hear songs from the 80’s that never made it to vinyl!!!
I love the SCORPIONS. My all time favorite band..🤘🎸🎸🤘!
I've seen the Scorps live many times! Kick-ass band! They NEVER piss of TRUE fans.
Blackout is definitely the Scorpions best album. I think it's one of the best Metal albums of all time.
Great album, but the Uli stuff smokes it, IMO.
Really!I Still got This Record, with the Original Artwork!Minty Fresh Record as well!
I saw Scorpions at Monsters Of Rock on August 23th at Råsunda Stadium in Stockholm 1986 with Zero Nine, Def Leppard & Ozzy Osbourne. It was f***ing epic💥❤️🔥🎸
It would be great if you'd do more videos about the Scorpions 🦂. Thanks for this one, right in time for 40th annual Love at First Sting tour!
40th annual? They do a Love at First Sting tour EVERY YEAR?!!!! Damn.
I saw them on the Toronto stop of 84 tour with openers Quiet Riot, Kick Axe and Helix. Love at First Sting still holds up today in every aspect.
Hope they tour the US after the Vegas shows. Great band after all this time
this was the first album i bought, and it was love at first sting! it was the single responsible for my hard/metal fan carrer! thanks scorpions for one of the best albuns ever made.. and you my friend for the video, your channel is awesome... keep on rocking
I wasn’t even born till 82, but this is the music I grew up on.
Love the album, also love the albums with Uli and the first one too.
Great doc, subbed
Love 70s scorpions
Love the 80's era of Scorpions, but my favorite era is the 70's era. Love World Wide Live album big time, but Tokyo Tapes is my favorite Scorpion's live album. I have seen them live many times, and are one of the greatest live bands I've ever seen. Klaus is one of the greatest lead singers ever in my opinion. Can't believe Love At First Sting is forty years old. I was five years old when it came out.
Love at first Sting was my first Scorpions 🦂purchase
Great video, thanks!
Scorpions are a great band. Definitely one I never listened to enough, but I bought Virgin Killer back in the day and loved that album.
They are and always will be my favorite band. Saw them live and they never disappoint us.
Good stuff. You got a new Sub.
Love the Scorps! I was fortunate enough to see them on this tour at Donnington Monsters of Rock in '86 and they were the best band on the day.
Maybe not today, but Scorpions were really HUGE in Brazil through the 80’s and 90’s. I mean, much bigger than Maiden. Mainly due to still loving you being part of the soundtrack to “corpo a corpo” (1984), a piece of what we call “novelas” (soap opera). And it was everywhere on radio. I think the only other band that went this big in Brazil is GnR.
Bons tempos! 🙂
That's my favourite old school band !!!
Will there be a video of ratt’s out of the cellar album which was released the same day
Raft isn’t metal. They’re cock-rock.
LOVE the scorps one of my favorite bands! Do more content on them pls
Man, you got a new subscriber
GREATEST AND FAVORITE BAND OF ALL TIMES !!!!!!
I saw a kid with Scorpions on his jean jacket in like 5th grade. I bought Worldwide live and became a fan!
Looking forward to that Blackout episode!
Saw them in vegas on the 18th. It was awesome. Best concert I have seen.
Saw them at Monsters Of Rock at Mannheim in 86 with Ozzy subbing them. They played largely the World Wide Live album plus a few extras. Brilliant show, one I'll never forget.
saw them twice on the 1988 Monsters of Rock stadium tour. Hermans' drums sounded excellent, impressive sound in a stadium
Totally agree with you on the Blackout album. I am of a certain age when I bought these records/cassete tapes when they were released during my mid teen years.
No disrespect to the 80s, but Scorpions 70s music was the absolute best!
I’m currently working my way through their 70’s material and loving it🖤🖤🖤🖤
Uli!!!
I usually prefer the Heavy Metal music that existed before the term Heavy Metal was common.
I dug Blackout , but I checked out pretty much after Lovedrive. The Uli Jon Roth era is my Scorpions. Taken By Force, Virgin Killer and In Trance were never topped imo.
I always loved the “No One Like You”, video with the dude with the forks in his eyeballs!! THATS METAL MAN!!
I saw the Scorps back in the 80’s Monsters of Rock tour. I’m going to miss being in Vegas for the residency by just a few days 😢
Wow 40 years old. Great album 🤘🤘
Great video. I agree, Blackout is my favorite.
I simply love As soon as the good times roll !
Thanks for sharing.
I just caught the Scorpions love at first sting show in Vegas. They are not playing the album in it's entirety. They open up with Coming home, and play many of Their hits , I was very surprised when They played My favorite, I'm leaving You. poor Klaus was not His usual self, as He had that Spinal surgery. but Scorpions still delivered an Awesome show 🦂
I saw them at Bang your head festival 2000, bloody awesome 🤘🍺🤘
Saw them on the Lovedrive tour in 1979 at the Liverpool Empire.
I had a Matthias Jabs Gibson CS Explorer in the 80s... it got stolen or sold for something by our rhythm guitarist but I was definitely a huge Scorpions fan, only Maiden topped higher at the time. Great information, loved all their album covers but you couldn't get most of them in the US unless you ordered the import version... which yea I had back then :) And yes, they were truly amazing live!!! I don't know if I could personally choose between Sting or Blackout personally.
I saw the Scorpions in 1984 in Binghamton Ny and it was the Best Concert Ever!
DEFINATELY MORE LOVE FOR THE SCORPIONS PLEASE!!
I saw them live back in '85. Matthias Jabs 6 string sting guitar solo was great and a bit better than what appears on World Wide Live.
Klaus is a freak of nature. To be able to sing like he does for this long.
I love the song and drum intro to "Im leaving you" and the sleeper "As long as the good times Roll". Great songs.
* As Soon As The Good Times Roll.
Same Thrill is a monster! I Totally agree. World wide live was my gateway to Scorpions, and it and live after death were my introduction to hard rock and metal. Love at first sting is a very good album, but for me, it’s the three leading up to it that are the trifecta of awesomeness for the Scorps.
PS, crossfire is also a fantastic song.
I’ve seen them live every album since love at first sting. When I see them in Vegas in two weeks, the circle will finally be closed. They are my favorite band of all time. Give your size and I’ll get you t-shirt from there! Btw this is my first video from you and yes I did subscribe.
Great album Thanks for sharing.
You told me to subscribe, so I did Homeboy.....ROCK ON!!!!
Some of the best music ever released: Blackout and Love at First Sting. Both albums came out in my high schools days.
This is a great band. I seen them live witch was great music is great will always love Scorpions keep rocking
Would love to see Michael Schenker as a guest on this Scorpions tour!
Not gonna happen.
...and favourite live song is "Dynamite"
that one absolutely rips on World Wide Live
I saw them for the only time with Dio & Deep Purple. They were really Amazing. Hell of a drum solo.
Love the Scorps! Back in the 80’s, I played guitar in a cover band and we did Bad Boys Running Wild.
Gotta love any foreign band that learns English to write and sing their songs! Just for us! Love Scorpions! Just a great heavy metal band of the 70s and ‘80s! And the ‘90s too!!
I've seen MSG when they opened for Ted Nugent, never seen the Scorpions live but I do plan on going to the 40th Anniversary tour. The Zoo remains to this day my favorite Scorpion song.
I was a fan since Love drive(still my favorite) & saw the Scorps live in 84. I don't remember anybody being pissed off about that album & this is the first time I ever even heard that.
We would never have had Spinal Tap's "Smell the Glove" had the Scorpions not made the album covers they did.
Us Scorpions fans didn’t give a shit, we loved the metal (still do)
World Wide Live is one of the best live albums in my opinion
I've seen them twice, both times in 2022. Hoping to see them this time, but not very likely
1980 onwards for me.
guitar playing at its most
exiting and songs more catchy.
i saw them 3 times in the 80s.
never failed to impress.
Always kinda wondered why they didn't have an album cover of somebody doing a scorpion. 🤔
Greatest ever!
SCORPIONS, always underrated and overshadowed by other Less talented BANDS.
SCORPIONS have committed their music to world peace, due too the fact that they were all sons of WW2 German Veterans.
They have been promoting peace and worldly friendship since the band was formed in 1969.
I'm a BIG SCORPIONS fan since discovering them at age 13 in 1984.
@danzielinski5036 - Where did you get that from, that their parents were all WWII vets? It’s not true. They often say, “Our parents came with tanks, but we come with guitars”, but they didn’t mean their parents, literally; they meant their parents’ generation.
Just saw them on 4/13 on Saturday still kick ass
This album always takes me back to my teens! So good! By the way, As Soon As The Good Times Roll kicks a$$!
For me this was an LP of two sides, Side one is superb, side two, not so much.Their last fully amazing album was Blackout for me.
Saw them on that tour in Atlanta in the summer of 84. A brand new band no one had heard of yet was opening for them called Bon Jovi. LOL
What about "Virgin Killer" or "In Trance" or their absolute best work ever "Tokyo Tapes" live with Uli Jon Roth??
Hey,my mom knows *that* song!!!
Haven't dug into this band, but Klaus was featured in an Avantasia song.
The samples here sound good, might listen at some point.
Very good, very underrated band, if you like power ballads and catchy tunes.
@@mockupguy3577 While I'm more used to the climes of extreme metal with blast beats and inhuman screeching,I've been getting in touch with the older style, been digging into a few post-Dio Rainbow albums,Dokken, and most recently an Alice Cooper Release,so I'm fairly certain I'll have a good reception of this band.
Love at first sting. . . Fantastic LP
The only time I’ve ever seen them in concert was for the “Love at First Sting” tour back in 1984 when I was 15. Bon Jovi opened for them. It was a great experience.🤘
Such a great album
The first time I saw them was in 1988 after the Monsters of Rock tour fell apart. I’ll never forget that huge Flying-Vee shaped ramp descending out of the darkness overhead and Klaus scampering all the way out to the end of it singing. I can understand why you like Blackout, but for my money Lovedrive, Animal Magnetism, and Blackout are tied for first. Love at First sting and Fly to the rainbow are second. Everything else comes after that:)
Rosemont Horizon and WLS radio So many shows seen and so much music listened to throughout my youth.
Tokyo Tapes was my introduction to Scorpions then I dug into their studio catalog. Really got into the Uli era. After that a lot of their lyric topics were a bit less sophisticated and they faded into the the rest of the HM bands in the 80's. We would still go to see their shows but they just didn't stand out as much anymore.
Saw them at monsters in Tampa in late 80s. Boggled my brain.
must watch this .......The Story of 'Love At First Sting'........on youtube ......i hope they do all the lps !!
That was a great documentary
You forgot to mention that Love at First Sting was also one of the first albums to be recorded digitally.
I did in the end ;)
Is that a good thing?
@pvwulfe6662 That is probably entirely up to how you view digital vs analog recording.
@@pvwulfe6662 that all depends on the skill and taste involved in the production.
Dieter Dierks yes...
I still prefer the analogue.
I love "Love at First Sting", for me it's the classic Scorpions album par excellence. Another favourite Scorpions album of mine is "Savage Amusement". I love It's perfect, perhaps somewhat overproduced sound. That's the sound of the 80s for me. I saw the Scorpions live twice in Germany. One of the concerts was with Michael Schenker as special guest.
0:27 Ignea album, nice!
