Bruce Dickinson in trouble?

- Bruce Dickinson is taking a heat online once again, for allegedly calling out a smoker fan at a recent solo concert in Brazil.
Yes, the internet is once again criticising Bruce Dickinson after he openly confronted several fans in the crowd at Opera Hall in Brasília on April 27 during his Mandrake Project tour… yet it looks like some are kind of confused about what actually happened there.
Before playing Navigate the Seas of the Sun Bruce Dickinson did once again make a speech about smoking in the first rows at a closed arena concert, pointing to some fans who caused the fact that he and his bandmates were not able to perform at a level the visitors paid to see them do it.
But in addition to smoking in the first row, which we all know Bruce simply hates, somebody in the crowd at that concert has allegedly been using pepper spray! Bruce’s wife Leana Dolci explained in her instagram post that the main problem that night wast in fact not smoke, as that happens at every concert, but the fact that somebody decided to use pepper spray at the show.
So let’s start with a short backstory first and discuss the original piece of news which caused a heated discussion back in the day, discuss the difference between enjoying personal freedoms at a Heavy Metal concert and depriving fellow metalheads from it and talk about whether Bruce Dickinson has taken it too far at the concert in Brazil. And what do you think?

Do you think smoking ban should be more strictly imposed at the venues?
If the venue policy is no smoking, then yes, they should enforce it. I’m sure it varies by country.
yes...I mean a show is just a couple hours. Smoke before and after...no big deal.
Yes!! It’s bloody irritaiting, and dangerous. One spark in the wrong (flammable) place, and all hell is loose!
Inside shows for sure.
For outside shows, not categorically. It's not that big of a deal. In many shows I've been, the bouncers go around front rows and center to prevent smoking there, but don't really care in the sidelines or back, where there's more room.
I think that's a good policy.
Only stage smoke in copious amounts to make up for the lack of real smoke.
im a smoker. and even if its allowed i never smoke inside the venue. wtf is wrong with those people.
Thank you! Some people just don't understand how annoying and dangerous it can be for others
I don't smoke indoors even in my own house. Wouldn't even think of doing it at a show.
Green - inside
Tobacco - outside
Performance abilities.....don't care......I care about safety first. Smoking in a venue is just careless with no regard of others. I am not even an anti-smoking fascist, but people must think about safety first!
Was a smoker for years, never once smoked inside a venue. People that do it drive me nuts.
Bruce is correct to be angry. Someone threw pepper spray on the stage, causing those in the audience to faint.
There is video of Bruce even helping people in the public who were feeling ill. The guy was AWESOME, not only supporting those who were there coughing and not being able to breathe (which is not his obligation) but also continuing the show.
If he canceled the show and promised never to come back, he would still be right. He would still be correct. But out of respect for the majority of people who were there and behaved in a civilized manner, he went to the end, even with pepper spray in the air.
the promoters said the incident was caused by an accidental explosion of a fan's vape pen, and the chemicals in the vape spread and created symptoms similar to those of pepper spray (i was at the concert and everyone was confused about what was causing all the coughing in the audience, because if it was just some cunt who wouldn't stop smoking or with a spray, we could have spot him and deal with it).
According to the promoter there was no pepper spray. The person who was vapping their pen exploded and released very strong fumes
I am Brazilian, here it is forbidden by law to smoke inside any venue or closed spaces. Unfortunately, there are a lot of idiots :/
Usually security is pretty strong at venues like that.
That's a shame, and a violation of a well known law.
We probably will not see Bruce Dickinson solo again. Oh f!
By the way Bruce did a gig here @Rio de Janeiro tonight. Unfortunately I missed it. I've been on all solo tours since Balls to Picasso. The Chemical Wedding was unbelievable. I went to the comeback to Iron Maiden gig @Rock in Rio as well (with Halford at the same night). Long live Bruce Dickinson, the man is a powerhouse, a genius.
Simply, no. I agree with Bruce calling out those fans because if he can't do his job because of smoke, then they are hurting him and others who may not be able to breathe.
There is a law in Brazil that prohibits smoking here. Vape is also forbidden here in Brazil. No matter how you spin it, the person vaping was wrong in all accounts.
You mean inside, right? Or is it illegal to smoke anywhere?
@@dmitryowens Yes, inside indoors venues. You can smoke at outdoor places.
@AFx3144
Well, he didn't specify that - he said just said "smoking is prohibited" and "vape is also forbidden here in Brazil".
@@dmitryowens As you made the question, that's why I just answered it to you.
Now I didn't understand why you justified your question.
You had made the question, right? So you got the answer on what you wanted to get clarified. Isn't that reasonable for you?
You were supposed to say just a simple "ok" to me.
@@AFx3144
Dude, you're not even the one who wrote the comment I was questioning, so why are you answering? And don't tell me how to speak or phrase things.
I've always been behind Bruce on this.
Bruce is absolutely correct; it's so inconsiderate to everyone else at the venue, especially when it's an enclosed theater and the smoke can't dissipate. If you're SOOOO dependent on it, get some nicotine patches or gum or something to get you through the show, don't ruin it for everyone else. Same with weed; take an edible instead if you must, or do it before going into the venue, but don't light up a joint in the middle of a crowd, that's so damn rude.
Exactly! Not to mention, there are people allergic to weed and the smoke from it. As in life threatening Anaphylactic Shock allergic. My Girlfriend is one of them. And I've had fucktards be like "well, don't come then if she can't be around it..." Yeah, fuck that! We paid for our tickets just like they did, and we're not breaking the law or the venue's rules like they are, so they can fuck right off.
Ok. As a parent whose kids love Metal, I couldn't agree more with Bruce. It's a matter of respect, health and common sense. Let them get high a little further away.
I am a smoker and I fail to understand how hard is it to just watch a show and then smoke afterward. Most US arenas don't allow smoking anyway, so it's just vapers and the occasional dude firing up a joint. I respect Bruce and anyone who sings for a career enough to not smoke and just enjoy the show. Its just not that big of deal really.
The thing is, is forbidden to smoke in closed places herein Brazil. The band turn the AC off coz of the voice, so the smoke never leaves..
Yeah but as you said it's illegal to smoke in the venue so the ac being off shouldn't have mattered because there shouldn't have been any smoke to clear 🤷♂️
@@ANDREWHALL28 Is BRazil, the AC off matters. But anyway, even being prohibited people do, and is hard to keep track on this, and the place is big.. the main problem was the pepper spray.
Wtf man, Bruce is bang on. Anyone who watches or knows anything about Bruce or Maiden know this is a thing. Have some respect and smoke outside or wait. Rights are right but respect is respect. Have some.
That's exactly what I said ;)
In Brazil smoking is illegal in public closed spaces. There's no ventilation on most venues and it can make passive smokers feel ill.
It was not smoke, someone used pepper spray in the crowd
You haven't seen the video fully, it turns out it was probably an exploded vape pen.
@@CookieMonsterJams yeah, because an exploded vape totally has the same effect as pepper spray.
Even when I smoked I didn’t like breathing other people’s smoke. Just me, just my 2¢
I was at that show. I was close to the barrier and did not felt any pepper smell or difficult to breath. But my wife was some dozen feet away near the left bar and she witnessed about 20 folks having a bad time breathing. A kid in front of me almost fainted, I dont know if was just the heat or this irritating gas. Bruce stood up in front of us asking if he was well and throw a bottle of water to him.
What confused us is that the focus of the incident was on the left and Bruce pointed someone at the right. Maybe an air draft the gas and left that impression.
Indeed when I was outside eating a hot dog I saw an ambulance getting in the crew area, this worried me as someone could not be ok for the next show and made a huge bad publicity for my city.
Thanks for clarifications. Glad you were okay
for someone to smoke on a Bruce's solo career show, they might have did that out of pure disrespect, which in itself is horrible, specially since people had to get medical help after the incident, I hope the person who did this get punished. Altho if the problem was actually pepper spray, that might mean someone may have tried to do something they shouldn't and the one who suffered from that wasn't aware of the problems of using pepper spray on a closed space, which's also sad, either way, sad to know this happened, and sadder to know it was on my country
Something other people don't think of, one of the reasons I don't go to concerts, and I would LOVE to, is because I happy to be one of those people who happens to be allergic to marijuana smoke. I found it out as a teenager when someone else lit up. What happens to me is that I will get a massive and instant migraine, my throat closes up and I can't breathe. I have no problem with people smoking it but not all of us can and I would love to go to more concerts but I can't because if I end up exposed to it, I have to get away from it. I agree with Bruce on this one.
In France smoking is banned from venues as they are public areas. Now we just need to ban the [CENSORED] smartphones.
So I’m a vocalist/guitarist. I’m just an underground guy. Obviously not running tours like Bruce does for a billion years. But even I now at this point, I don’t even really move around the venue much before our time up because you just can’t escape the smoke. And there’s not even that alone to contend with if you sing. There’s the possible pressure of talking a ton before the show (and you’re gonna be raising your voice because everything is loud), there’s the dry ice/fog, there’s the possibility of a cold going around, there’s a whole plethora of shit to avoid before you even get to the people who figure it doesn’t matter where their smoke cloud goes or who it goes to. All of that is gonna affect a singer negatively, especially if they’re doing fairly challenging material for their voice every night. I hate it and I’m only where I’m at. I can only imagine how fed up Bruce is since this is literally his job since the 1980’s. He’s honestly being *too nice* about it.
Use a Fan... Have the bar open the front door 👀👋👋👋
There's a bar in Hollywood, Knuckle Head, they use Smoke Fog machine for the Ambiance 😅 ... You wouldn't believe how long it takes for them to open the doors and let the air out...
@@tsohgallik What do you mean?
@@AFx3144
A "fan" referring to a machine with a propeller that moves air in a room.
The second part of my previous comment was about a dive bar in Hollywood, California...
It's a small bar, they use a fog machine, they allow smoking.
When it gets really heavy with the smoke sometimes the bouncer in the front would let the door open up to let the air move outside.
There's an outside patio and the door swings open but does not stay open because the doors are supposed to stay closed.
I'm a non-smoker... but I cannot take Bruce's complaints seriously. He runs around on stage with a flamethrower, huffing fuel, but cigarettes are the problem.
Is there a better reason to stop smoking than getting told so by Bruce Dickinson?
Yes, there is.
The smoker's parents' asking. Much better reason.
In the UK there's been a smoking ban since around the mid 2000s for indoor events, yet some people still seem to get away with smoking.
I personally think it's disruptive when you have people smoking around you in a crowded, enclosed venue. Especially when it's weed, which isn't legal to smoke at venues in the UK.
Totally agree with Bruce and band. How was it for Bruce in the 80’s? Would he tell smokers too to stop smoking? 🤔
That was the 80s, but now it is banned inside, so it is completely different, mate🤔
@@azzajames7661 sure, I know that is banned nowadays. It is more the whining he didn’t do in the 80’s and so it means we as humans are not used to anything anymore, like a bit smoke. Just saying. 🤷🏻♂️
@@MartyFarty1981 well im glad im not used to cigarette smoke. Pubs and the like are better places for banning smoke.
Its a party pooper but we got to respect the people we care about.
I was at the Rio de Janeiro show, and one of the crew guys from the production told us it wasn’t just smoking nor pepper spray (which is rare in Brazil). A vape (electronic cigarette) exploded which caused the smoke to extend a broader area affecting not only Bruce but other band members such as Tanya, as well. Therefore before starting the show, production told us specifically that from now on vapes were strictly forbidden on any show.
yes especially in side shows
I guess someone wanted to replicate the 'Smoke on the Water' incident.
"Some stupid with a pepper spray, burnt the place to the ground..."
If certain People can't cope without a Smoke, Vape, Spliff or whatever, for more than a couple of hours, then THEY are the ones with a problem.
I run a channel about growing and I agree. Just because you enjoy both Iron Maiden and the plant of plants doesn’t mean you need to infringe on others. Stay cool and enjoy the show. It’s all good.
We don't pay big money for an asshole to blow smoke and effect those around them.. drinking affects that person only.. Ban this shit the did everywhere else
They're so weak. This is why I don't go out anymore. Everyone just complains
I was in the very first row in this concert, and I can say that a lot of people are saying things without proper understanding of what happened. Even though the show was only stopped while playing Navigate the Seas of the Sun, it was possible to see Bruce coughing a little before that, but in the back of the stage where he was breathing a watered towel to try to clear his breathing. There was no smell and no smoke, but suddenly a lot of people started coughing (including me), it was nearly impossible to even keep up with the first minutes of 'Navigate'. Like some people said, one guy on the front row fell and had to receive treatment, some people from the production brought him water. A guy from Bruce's team talked to him and gave him a guitar pick, and later conducted him to somewhere out of the crowd.
Bruce handled the situation pretty well, and the next songs weren't affected by this situation.
Besides this happening, the show was magical. I have not seen Bruce singing this well and being so comfortable in stage for a long time.
-
Smoking in closed areas is prohibited by Brazilian law, but somehow people were allowed to enter the venue with vapes. After the concert, it was possible to see dozens of fans smoking vapes out of the venue, and as it was a place pretty far from the town and isolated from basically everything, I just wonder how many of them saw the show with vapes in their pockets.
he has a precious voice and has never smoked, which likely saved his life when he got throat cancer. if you are so addicted you can not hold off for the length of a concert. and paper spray.. they are lucky bruce and the band did not just leave. i mean stars have had tantrums and walked off because a fan was wearing a t with a pic of another band. to see bruce in a 2000 nseat v enue is a priceless chance.
Here in the UK back in July 2007,all indoor smoking was banned, that includes all public transport, shops, pubs etc and thankfully, concert venues.Even vaping-which can be just as annoying-is banned in many places. As a 63 year old man who detests the smell of cigarette smoke I can honestly say I hate the smell of weed with an almost psychotic zeal and I'll call out anyone who smokes that brain retarding, stinky shite,I hate it,I don't want to smell it,don't do it anywhere near me....Well done Bruce,I'm with you all the way.
You are so pro Bruce fan, parfume Can Also make people sick.
This is Bruce
Not Rob.
Try and get to interview him.
Bruce Dickinson is a metal god. He can do whatever he likes. If he looked down at me in a crowd and told me to do something, uh yeah ... I'd do it. LOL
I mean, yeah. Go outside and smoke your cigarettes or your weed. He wasn't being mean or rude about it. I don't see the problem here. Pepper Spray though? That's messed up.
I'm also a big fan of Navigate the Seas of the Sun, by the way. I've always loved that song. I used to play along with it back in the day. Perhaps I should relearn it. It's great to see Bruce playing it live, finally!
It's been a whole lot of whining from Bruce's side so now I can't figure out if it's a cigaret or a granade. The boy who cried wolf. Setlist is awesome and we're so lucky to get this tour though!
The smoke fucks with Bruce’s vocals. I don’t know what’s so hard to understand about that.
The ol man has a High singing voice... It's not gonna mess with his voice at all😅
He should be comfortable knowing he doesn't have to Death BLERGHGH
@@tsohgallik well if he asks, people should respectfully stop.
Exactly…. It fuks with your cords
As an almost 30 year pothead i have to agree, be it a closed or open venue anywhere in the crowd is not the place to catch your buzz. Things may be relaxing on the cannabis mentality but it'll never be totally relaxed like some think and wish, much like smokable tobacco products not everyone will like the smell.
Imagine one of your gruesome farts being mistaken for pepper spray 😂😂😂
Well said, Metal Pilgrim, about personal freedom!
Is Bruce still a pilot?
Thanks for sharing.
Like the old saying goes "There's one in every family" have a little respect for others trying to have fun and those that are trying to perform at least go outside if you want have your fun but don't mess it up for everyone else
hell, at one point in the 80s, 98% of Maiden's fans smoked. He needs to stfu
Hey he has just come out of hospital from throat Cancer. Certainly he doesn't want to breath in cigarette smoke.
If it's allowed in the venue smoke on, if it's not, don't.
Smoking at shows is not allowed in sweden. So I agree with Bruce.
Iron maiden only got famous for playing in a smoke filled pub to start with so without that smoke filled pub they wouldn’t be famous Sounds like time to retire.
Yeah, and for that he got throat cancer. Imagine not wanting to get throat cancer again, right?
As someone who doesn't smoke and sings, I completely back him up on this. Smoking can affect a singer's voice, and with him touring, that's going to take a toll. After everything we know about smoking, the least smokers can do is go outside, because I don't want that trash in my body.
I would assume that considering his battle with cancer, he's extremely sensitive to the subject. I personally used to be a smoker, and now I do vape in place of it. The cardinal rule is to not be intrusive on others with your habit.
He never had cancer. These industry owned propaganda puppets are all script followers and controversy creators. They do and say as they are told by their Freemason handlers.
According to the ststement the promoter released it wasnt pepperdpray but the vapers pen exploded.
(about 6:30) - wow, you're an absolute genius! You just discovered the basic cause to all human strife & conflict!!! Bravo!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Who would’ve thought Iron Maiden would of been snowflakes..I wouldn’t of 🤣🤣🤣
Does anybody else remember Bruce ranting on one of the recordings of live after death about how the queen used to smoke it?
The man recently beat throat cancer and still trying to sing his heart out. Last thing he needs is to be breathing that shit in.
When he said if you wanna get stoned then go out the back, what if everybody went out back?....lol
He gets to go home early and put his feet up
Iam a smoker, and Bruce is right to be annoyed,as fans have no respect for Bruce health.
\m/ \m/
Bruce is right that weed-smoking should not be allowed where there are kids. But I think that Bruce should not talk about this. Just do the show. He might be misunderstod and people might get angry.
You're spot on.
Part of the appeal of seeing this Mt. Rushmore frontman is to hear him go off on rude concert goers...I love that he rips inconsiderate people. But this situation was more serious people needed medical attention
100% agree with him. No one wants smoke in their face. God knows how it affects a singer breathing deeply esp one who has had throat cancer.
As for the Pepper Spray. Words failed - who the hell does that???? Fingers crossed someone they find them.
Based Bruce, smoking is not only an asshole thing to do to the singer, but an asshole thing to any surrounding people in general. Who the hell wants to smell that shit?
Inside I agree but outside I do not agree. Some people ware perfume or body spray or even dont bath at all and they are all allowed to be who they are outside at the very least so the occasional wiff of smoke should not be an issue. Yes I smoke.
Hes right. Other people may not want to be exposed to your drugs. If you want to put it in your body, fine, but that doesn't give you the right to put it in other people's bodies. And *yes* if its that noticeable to other people, its going into their bodies and I don't care how much or how little it is, its not *your* decision how good or bad their reasons are for not wanting your drugs in their body.
"Fans voiced their opinion, which pretty much everyone does these days" as you voice YOUR opinion...
I smoked for more than 25 years. I never ever smoked in the indoor venue. It can be very annoying to others, and it's very rude especially if an artist asks not to smoke in his presence.
Bruce is right to do that. As a vocalist, smoke from a cigarette has a negative effect on the singing voice. Pepper spray has a similar effect as well. Unfortunately, most people don’t know that
This isn't even a valid matter for debate. Tickets cost money, in many cases they are pricey. Iron Maiden is a super famous bands that some have gone to see many times and others may have been unable to all their lives and xyz concert they are attending is one they saved up money for and made plans for, took off work, traveled, etc. To have such a special moment ruined by someone who can't go to an event without using drugs is completely disrespectful and rude. If anything, the bands needs to be applauded for taking a stand on this.
But seriously, if you have to smoke when you go to a concert to enjoy yourself you need to reevaluate your life, big time.
This speech is ok but be sure it sounds like nothing for a junkie. Believe me. They never stop for that reason and never will.
I'm a Portuguese living in Spain. In both countries, it is forbidden to smoke in any public closed spaces. Even in some outdoors spaces as well, as long as they are public areas, such as hospital doors, schools, they're considering baning it from football stadiums as well.. so, show venues are obviously included in that smoking ban. Either regular cigs to heated tobacco or vapes. Anything that produces smoke.
I was there and luckly, on the other side of the arena and really didn´t smell anything. But It´s safe to sat that the vape explosion is more plausible theory for what happened there. Firstly, because it´s not a common thing in Brazil people using pepper spray for self-defense. And secondly, and most important, all vapes sold in Brazil are actually smuggled, since the sales of vapes was recently pronibited in Brazil. So, smuggled itens = less quality and no concerns with safety usage.
Using vapers reminds me of of people going vegan but still like to taste vegan bacon.
Roger Daltry had the same reaction to someone smoking in front of him. He told the smokers to did off.
Hello, I agree with Bruce, no smoking at all. Have a great day everyone! 😀🙂😇
It's illegal to smoke indoors in public places in Canada. Worse case scenario is usually some folks sneaking pot since it's legal in Canada.
He is right.
In Brazil it's not allowed to smoke in closed places (I mean places with a roof) that's the case of Brasilia Opera Hall. So I guess there should even be a discussion, who ever did that was wrong, even if it was just a vape.
Anybody with a great voice smoking has a massive detrimental effect
Yes
Would you like a little cheese with that whine? It’s a dam metal show. What’s next, no farts
Finally, someone with some common sense!! Bunch of whiny Gen Zers here in the comments. Never heard Dickinson complaining about smoke back in the 80's, when most of the ARENA was smoking. BTW, I don't smoke!
They have new shows with no moshing. They give talks about deodorant and hygiene at festivals 🤷♂️ I remember seeing PanterA and being so soaked with sweat my fingers pruned like raisins in the bathtub! I always said Rock N Roll would never die... But it sure is on life support with these kids.
@@deekotronix6059 Do you want to know what happened with Bruce's voice back in the day? Listen to any Maiden concert between '84 and '90 and you'll know that Bruce's technique brought him a lot of trouble because of touring and yelling all the time, he's technique was not as good as it is now and he is aware of that. He is a professional now, he learnt how to take care of his voice and he knows what's good for him and what's not. Yes, it's a damn metal show but he is a performer, he is a professional singer and he has to take care of himself specially now at his age, he is not 26 anymore and has to be healthier than ever.
Bruce is bang on right and that comes from a heavy smoker for many years. It's so sad someone can't walk to smoking area or go a few hours without one.
Freedom is a great think. But your personal freedom ends at the very same point where it influences the personal freedom of others. Concert goes are free to smoke OUTSIDE where they don't influence other concert visitors who'd love to express their right of NOT smoking. My Kudos to Bruce for pointing this out.... he isn't the youngest guy anymore, his voice is his work tool (and didn't he have cancer in his throat, too?), every kind of smoke influences his voice, the band is running the show so he has every right in the world to tell the fans that they please do not smoke inside the hall. I don't understand what the security at this location did, they should have intervened here long before Bruce had to.
A few years ago, I went to a Kraftwerk concert (I know, it 's not metal, but nevertheless...) in a close venue. It was really crowded, and a guy 10-12 meters beside me smoked weed literally every 5-6 minutes, really making it uncomfortable for everyone around. When after 8-10 weeds he finally fell down unconcious, I didn 't feel sorry for him!
Ya his voice throat and lungs we want them to last for as long as possible guys we need to think that he has to take very good care of his health he’s not 25 anymore
Don’t smoke inside ANYWHERE! It‘s incredibly rude and egotistical.
Bruce can do whatever he wants and can say whatever he wants. Especially if he is right. And he usually is
Girl.
In the UK it's illegal to smoke indoors I'm personally all for it, it's a much nicer environment, and yes for singers smoke can cause all sorts of issues, not to mention why should people be forced to risk lung cancer from second hand smoke
Oh and he's just beaten throat cancer, did people forget that ?
Bruce is 100 % right. For one it’s against the law and two it’s totally disrespectful to other fans and the band. Who do you think you are to IMPOSE your smoke on others ?
And I’m a smoker but totally with Bruce on this one .
I agree with what Bruce said
Getting the band stoned is probably a bad idea
Bruce did say he loves to smell the crowd...
People these days, you know 😒
"Bruce Dickinson goes off on a fan during a show." doesn't strike me as news, really. That's just how he is.
To be fair, Bruce is a cancer survivor.
Marijuana has no effect on cancer, actually if you Google Rick simpson, there's a Rick Simpson Oil made from marijuana that cures cancer, smoking it does not hurt somebody with cancer, I have friends with cancer and they smoke weed stop, but I'm not saying to smoke inside of a building, do it when it's respectable, and sure as hell do not be spraying pepper spray in a crowd
His gig, his rules. You can't stand his rules, get out.
I agree 100% with Mr. Dickinson.
I'll admit. I've been one to smoke weed at a Maiden show. But I mean. A couple of joints towards the back of the floor area, throughout the set. As apposed to pepper spray!? That's ridiculous!
Ban smoking
I saw maiden at the O2 i vape, and i did not vape inside venue because i am aware people may not like it so i do not do it but peeper spay havant tried that yet 😂
He’s had throat cancer 🤷♂️
This is not new or news. He's done this a million times. I saw him stop a show and do this on his first solo tour with Janick. And I've seen many singers do this. Some (like Michael Hedges) even hang signs.
I toke like a Rasta, but I'm with Bruce on this. I started pro music when I was a teenager, so I really noticed the heinous effects of cigarette smoke in small clubs, and glad that Oregon made indoor smoking illegal around 30 years ago. Then, FFS this guy has survived throat cancer, and survived to take the stage with a vengeance. There are those who would say that it's bad for any performer to critique any audience ever, but I think they're full of shit.
