- I had really, really high opinions of the Vivo X70 Pro Plus's camera system -- I thought it had the best main camera of any phone in 2021. So the Vivo X80 Pro's new main camera with a new sensor should be better, right? Not always the case! I put these two phones to the rest at 2am in Hong Kong.

Honestly, both already are very good phones. If we remember few years ago, Vivo really came a long way.

i love that the color science on the x80 pro is more natural. i dont like it when phones have this hdr look too much or leaning too much on a certain color (yellow for vivo) but now they tweaked it, now its more balanced. i love that vivo x80 pro went for the more natural look + video is now sharper so that is a huge jump for me.

I love how you choose to do your camera comparisons at night. Arguably all flagships will take good pictures in Daytime but a different story when it's dark.
So therefore, any camera that can perform well at night is considered top notch and will deliver in daytime also, so no need wasting time and resources doing night and day time comparisons.
If they are all the same at day time, why the point of reviewing? They have to review the differences. So that's why it's important to give us the night shots and videos.. I personally want a mobile to shot my trips and I don't wanna miss night time shots as well.. (that is: 50% of my day)
Exactly the vid I was looking for. Great breakdown Ben. I'm a big Vivo fanboy as I use my X50 Pro for YT vids and love it but want the gimbal on the ultrawide, not main. I 'was' looking fwd to an X80 Pro+ thinking f/1.3 and gimbal on ultrawide. Now thinking of upgrading to X70 Pro+ or even X60 Pro+ as both have identical cameras & gimbals. Still looking fwd to the i13/S22/X80 shoot out. Cheers, STL

I'm a little bummed about the pricing though. It's priced very close to the S22 Ultra instead of the x70 pro. But at least it's available in more areas! Only the x70 pro was available before here, not the x70 pro+. The battery size increase is a nice bonus as well.

Long story short - I bought an orange vivo x80 pro and switched to Pixel 6 Pro in about 3 days. And here's why:
1) Awful front camera, your face is always overexposed. The skin is glossy, a lot of skin texture is missing from the bright side.
2) Main camera colors. They are desaturated and shifted, neither AI nor Zeiss mode won't give you real life colors.
3) Main camera focus, it's impossible to tap focus on the object at distance about 30cm to shoot crispy images. You should turn on motion autofocus and move the camera back and forth.
4) Telephoto 2x and 5x are the same as Pixel 4xl. Look like crops from the main camera.
5) Firmware. A lot of apps you can't delete even with ADB.
6) Security. If your fingerprint is not recognized, you have only a pincode as an option, no pattern drawing unlock
7) Fingerprint speed feels tricky, a lot of errors. Pixel 6pro is far more stable. At least it allows you to press firmly and doesn't read that junk
I agree with you on a lot of these but completely 1000% disagree that the pixel 6 pro has a better fingerprint scanner. It's a significantly worse scanner by any metric.

I really love the more natural colors on the X80 Pro. Especially now when so many phone can produce adequate daylight photos in terms of sharpness and exposure, natural colors and natural shadows are more important. Thus, the iPhone 13 Pro comes to mind as an interesting comparison.

Putting a 4k video with actual decent CROPS of images is spectacular for a youtuber. You should win way more subs.. I just subbed now. You did an excelent job. At 7:23min X70 blows the X80 out of the water.. I'm buying it. It's better in every aspect.

Both phone are good but the X70 Pro Plus has better colors and the added benefit of have a gimble in the ultrawide since you will use it more

The periscope systems of both is not the same. X70 Pro+ uses omnivion's OV08a10 while the X80 pro uses Hynix Hi847, while both have the same f3.4, the difference in the performance is night and day.

Can you do a camera comparison between this phone and the pixel 6? I am extra excited for this type of comparison because as of right now the pixel is the best phone for photography and video. I get some people like the iPhone but the smudgy video the low res, the lack of HDR compared to other Android phones. I don't know why people go crazy over iPhone photography. Great video! Keep up the good work.

maybe a bit late comment .., but the real usage of the 2x Gimbal is in night portrait shots. its perfectly clear and sharp and also the cinematic 2x mode too ..

If they skip out on the Pro Plus model, they should have gone all out on the camera setup of the X Note. They made halfway improvements in case of both the phones.

It's sometimes a little difficult to tell if you'll be able to use all these fancy features in other camera apps. The default camera app in most phones don't support external mics. Many RUclipsrs are using 3rd party camera apps if they want to directly connect a mic to the phone.
