I’m a long time iPhone user and I have no qualms about it’s cameras. I mean I can live with them just fine. But this comparison shows vivo’s cameras look way clearer and colors punchier. Makes me want to skip another iPhone generation again.
From all the reviews I've seen... Video: iPhone, has been the recognized champ for years, and cinematic mode puts it out of reach from competition. Selfies (pics or vids): iPhone, hands down. Back cams: x70 pro+, more detail and neutral, not to mention killer night mode and layers of advanced functionality over auto/AI mode. iPhone tends to dial up saturation and exposure (good for social media posting) in daylight or night mode (playing the Samsung game maybe?) If I have each in my left and right pockets, I'd whip out the iPhone for vids (selfies and posts), and pro+ for serious photos. Good thing my wife is in the Apple ecosystem and I'm Android, so we get best of both worlds. Choice is great... these are both top-notch. Now only if I can put a USB-C on the iPhone...
Actually the front camera is just a preference ig. I have the x70 pro (not plus), and I find its front cam to be better than a friend's iPhone 13 pro max.
These phones need a larger sensor and the ability to dial down the sharpness, otherwise, it will always look like phone footage. Great video as always.
I agree, but to be honest... if your story is great and ypu know how to tell it, tje phones will do just fine. It,s bot comparable with an arri of course, but thats besides tje point. Tje possibilities youngsters have today... some of them will make movies we can only dream of.
Sensor is already big enough, see that the Vivo have a harder time at night controlling the bright spots because it can't shut the aperture. But "these phones" have an solution to this already, "Log Format". You can record video in Log in this Vivo (and many others) solving the problems you mention.
Vivo has a good camera. I have an older model and loved the video and photography but the phone had issues, not sure they were software or hardware related but it was a pain to use sometimes. Hopefully that is all sorted out.
Can you tell what issues you had? I'm planning to buy the x70pro...and wondering if there are any issues that make it harder to use than, say a Redmi (Xaiomi) phone 😅
Great comparison. Honest and unbiased. I loved it. Good job brother. Looking forward for the iphone 13 pro max vs s21 ultra camera comparison just like this. ❤
Cinematic mode is actually quite decent for a first gen. Although it's not perfect around the edges and on more complex scenes, I'm excited where this tech will be in 5 years! BTW, increasing the fstop in post to like 5.6 or higher helps eliminate some of the glowing edges and keeps the blur looking more natural.
@@hatakeakshay802 oh dang, I actually just checked it out and edge detection does look better than iPhone’s cinematic mode. Do you know if you can adjust the fstop tho in post or completely turn it off ?
@@hatakeakshay802 oh yeah that’s what I meant, I think the one thing Apple has an advantage over is the ability to adjust the fstop, the focus tracking and to turn it off.
I was able to try the iPhone 13 Pro during my trip to Utah. The zoom lens doesn’t look good when viewed on the phone, but if you watch it on the computer, it’s a different story. The phone is really good with videos. And it shoots flat for color grading flexibility.
Same here Amigo , i bought the vIvo for vloging & within months they upgraded t x60 pro + which was jus 10k more & now x70 pro + , am planning to buy the 70 but won't b surprised if they upgrade again , I wish I was a Rich guy so i cud jus keep upgrading my life as well 😀
In my little unbiased research what I found was: iPhone 13 Pro Max is the way to go considering video recordings + zooming.. BUT if you're planning to only take night shots Vivo x70 Pro+ is the best mobile phone right now (as of Octorber-2022). It even blows its sucessor (Vivo X80) on this regard.
It is the first mobile brand from bbk electronics.. Which is parental company to Vivo, oppo, oneplus, iqoo and realme... Actually they are the first to implement in display fingerprint and dual display phones and even pop up camera (and of course the full display) mobiles.. In their flagship series called nex.
The Vivo looks brighter in general, but mostly the highlights are blown out, while they are still visible on the iPhone. I just wish Apple will add a 1-inch Sensor Size for all 3 lenses. In combination with the adanved image processing it will easily outperform point and shoot cameras!
Hey thx for the comparison video. The iPhone clearly has better dynamic range and better audio than the vivo. That's the only thing that interests me, but I will not be making a movie on an iPhone anytime soon. The language of cinema and cinematography requires a much more sophisticated image that a smartphone can't match. Cheers. BobbyGiggz.
Its a shame for apple even for a draw result. Is it apple who takes excessive profit or vivo sells its flagship too cheap lol.. half price phone compared to the great apple can still win in many categories..
X70 Pro plus have cinematic movie mode ultra wide and is doing NATURAL BOKEH without any edge detection or efect. What firmware you have on your test? I have Origin OS Ocean in mine and the video looks so profesional than the iphone 13. Search for it. Also you have to try the super night video that uses the main camera too in cinematic mode and the picture at night scenes is amazing. Do deepest test next time my friend.
The take away from this video is that , people who have made up their minds over which they prefer will side with their choice, irrespective of what they see.
Is it better to keep using your Intel MacBooks? Mines late 2018, MacBook Pro 15 inch, 32 GB ram, 1 TB SSD with Radeon Pro Vega 20 4 GB. How long will intel Macs be supported with updates and how long would applications get updated?
@ 6:15 note the sky in the Vivo frame. It is blown out and as the camera moves it fluctuates constantly. I just bought a Vivo X 70 Pro+ (primarily for gimbal on wideangle, love that) but the constant blown out sky is a BIG bummer, several 'wow' moments in vids ruined. Any suggestions on how to fix this? (HDR setting same thing btw). Cheers, STL. EDIT TO ADD: I realise this was the front facing cam but I am referring to main cam
I prefer a little bit the stability and colors of Vivo over Iphone almost in all scenaries talking about rear camera, but the front camera is much better the stability of Iphone.
While the iPhone's shots are better in dynamic range, I do find their lower contrast bugs me more than it should be. Many of the low light shots I prefer Vivo's even though it tends to clip highlight. Anyway, great comparison!
Hi Sir. Is it worth to buy this brand and model. Vivo x70 pro plus. Is it worth the investment if going after a good camera phone ? Samsung note 10 user here. Thanks.
Hi @brandon congratulations for your channel as a new follower I find it really helpful and amazing. I have Olympus m4/3 camera and Dji Pocket2. Will I be able to follow the lessons in your Unscripted course using my Pocket2? Or do I need to get a FF camera? Thank you
Personally, i would choose the iPhone 13 because of the soft and not too over sharpening video especially on the telephoto lense when shoot video. Vivo however is becoming more like samsung.
The night talking bit with the vivo had so much judder in the BG - I wonder how it'll perform on a gimbal. It does look better generally even if its not as wide and doesnt have as much of a telephoto

What is your opinion of using one of these smartphones for a short film against a sony a6400 (or similar)? What are the advantages and disadvantages, especially for shooting indoors or at night in cities?
Great review Brandon! Although the iphone cinematic mode doesn't look totally perfect, I'm pretty damn impressed at the quality of it. That's a hell of a phone. Thanks for making this 🙏
You can make a small cinematic video from vivo even vovo dnt have that spec. Although vivo x70pro plus is Photographic centric phone and iphone is videography centric phone. So easy win to iphone.
The iphone has better highlight and shadow retention capability. I think for video iphone is the winner all the way, Vivo lights up the scene which is pleasing to the eye but the iphone has more cinematic feel to it because of it's better video friendly sensor. For photography I guess it might be a different comparison. The Vivo photography capability is unique and a trendsetter and has its own USP. Agree. X70 pro+ camera is best for now. But front camera is not better than other flagship, also vivo microphone is awful for recording video

Dynamic range, iso noise, and mic are the standout wins for the iphone imo. Great video!
Nice review 👍 iPhone footages appear darker than Vivo footages. have you made any particular settings on either phone?
Great video! Especially the cinematic mode footages! I'm using DJI Pocket 2 for my cinematic video.

That be nice but the phone and lens would be way bigger if they were to implement three one inch sensors in one phone.
They need to implement only one 1 inch sensor ultra wide, and crop in for normal view, and digital zoom in for telephoto.
Looks pretty windy in the park during the intro ... was it just your body sheltering the lav mic ?
