    Just saw it 2 hours ago. Had a really good time at the cinema, was invested until the end, and cared about what happens with these people. And while the ending can be glimpsed, it's all about the road there. I will also be looking for the book, I do like Tremblay a lot and I understand the book is a bit different. What I don't like however is people scoring the movie poorly because it does not have a twist. Let the man deliver an overall solid story without any weird thing inserted just for the sake of it. Not all movies can be The sixth sense and it's ok.

      About Tremblay- I've heard a lot about his books in horror circles, do you have a book or author that you think is similar to him or his works? I've been sitting on the fence with him so I'm curious

    • @parshul
      @parshul Год назад +1

      Of what I' ve read maybe Wakenhyrst by Michelle Paver might be a bit similar, though the action is not set in modern times. Tremblay was a bit of a breath of fresh air - good characters and storytelling and a modern take on horror - including things such as reality shows. Not super scary, rather unsettling. You might want to try Head full of ghosts - modern take on exorcisms, with the same technique as in Knock at the cabin - it makes you wonder whether it is real or not.

There are other channels that, the day the movie is released, tell what the ending really meant (I guess I'm too dumb to decide for myself), or do reviews that lay out the entire plot. I ignore these channels, but they are still annoying. I guess this is why we can't have nice things.

    To be honest I haven't really been much of Bautista fan or much of a wrestling fan either. I've known him for his career in wrestling and pivoting towards acting later in the years, he's become well known and has done great with his transition. This film brings out apart of his personal character to me that shines about how intimidating and big he is to beinf a loving and caring person. A gentle giant so you say. The movie is well done and emotional, you easily connect to each character. Neither were judged based on their life but just by what and who they represent in society as a whole as the husband mentioned in the end. God does things that we do not always understand but we must in all faith believe in him and what he does to achieve the bigger goal of things. Well done to the director and actors chosen.

    Just like in Old, I thought the dialogue and acting was so incredibly awkward that it was hard for me to fully get sucked into the story. I think Shyamalan was really lucky having Bruce Willis, Toni Collette, Joaquin Phoenix, Mel Gibson and Samuel Jackson in his early movies, because they were able to sell the cheesy dialogue and story beats extremely well

Especially when Dave Bautista says “I like this show, it teaches empathy and kindness.” The way he said it made me cringe so much, M. Night is pretty weak at directing actors IMO. I think Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson would’ve pulled off that cheesy line way better because of their effortlessly likable screen presence

    Good review--but was shocked you had never seen Ben Aldridge before :O But then I realized I've mostly seen him on UK TV shows. His biggest role in Hollywood was co-starring last year in Spoiler Alert (which I admit I'm a bad gay for not having seen.) But he's done a ton of great UK tv work--Fleabag and last year's mystery miniseries where he played a gay detective dealing with his own past in an extreme religious community, The Long Call (the actor publicly came out while filming the role), are probably the highlights. He's going to continue to have a great career.

    The first time watching the movie, it was more from the family's perspective of who the hell are these crazy people. The second time watching the movie was interesting because in knowing the ending that the apocalypse is actually real, you see the movie from the 4 horsemens side where they have convince a family to sacrifice one of them or the horsemen will have to kill themselves one by one bringing forth the apocalypse. Also seeing the opening credits of the movie was cool. You see hospital or school work with scribbles of the visions and for some reason its creepier when you know the backstory if the 4 horsemen.
