Yeah the overheating problem has been investigated several times and all of them lead to the conclusion that there was a zink(?) Coating applied to the barrels and receiver that H&K themselves noted before that they didn't reccomend using them but they still did and now its the rifles fault The rest of it is politics and other weird political factors playing into them trying to adopt a new rifle but (unsurprisingly) haven't found a good replacement yet that brings the same performance as the G36
I think it is one of the best rifles made, owned an Armalite ar my girl has the sig 516. She sooo loves my G36 and I can say that it stays on target recoil is totally linear the wieght is not even close to an ar, super light. A tennis ball at 50yrds rapid fire, every round in it, amazing.
Now that’s how a G36K should look. C-style sights, plain handguard with the sling stop. Nice classic aesthetic and nice simple easy setup to use. I liked Larry Vickers’ video on the K, but the tacticool “improvements” ruined it.
DaMainDude In case anyone is wondering, there are reports of accuracy loss as the rifle heats up. This is because the barrel is a very thin pencil profile barrel to save weight, as low weight was the main objective when designing the rifle. Any barrel will open up its group size when the barrel heats up. The unique problem with the g36 is that the polymer, once heated up, does not dispense the heat very quickly or evenly.
Jordan the unique accuracy problem the German govt had was they got ammo that would barely hold 4 MOA and blamed the rifle. Read the complaints and it’s all ammo related or sustained fire like a crazy long firefight. The gun is fine until it’s used like a SAW, even in high ambient temps
Regarding the melt under normal use myth: The land court of Koblenz concluded that the G36 performs to spec and decided in favor of H&K. The isolated cases of the gun losing accuracy are based on operator error. They used the G36 like a machine gun, we're talking 300+ rounds in long bursts in one firefight. If there was a fundamental flaw in the rifle we wouldn't have heard about it 18 years after it's introduction. Due to bureaucracy being bureaucracy the rifle still gets replaced but they can't find one that performs to spec.

Some polymers do, but the polymer they used in this gun don’t. The controversy that this G36 will melt and lose zero is complete BS. You’d have to fire +500 rounds of full auto continuously to get any loss of zero.

It was narrowed down to the troops using some sort of tin protective cover that overheated and made the materials expand making them inaccurate
